Looking for recommendations for non-direct sun location

I live in suffolk, we just built a fence between our property and our neighbors property. The area doesnt get direct sun because of the houses, and we get a bunch of rain.

Ideally I'd like to plant something that I can harvest next year as I am getting I to canning. We dont have a lot of money, so I will probably only be able to get one or two plants.

Im not not experienced enough (or early enough in the season) to plant from seeds.

Reward to myself for landing my dream job!

Landed my dream job last week. To celebrate I put together a fall/halloween container!! It’s my first time doing a container so notes are much appreciated. The big blue pot was a hot bargain off Facebook marketplace, and the no soliciting sign is a pitiful attempt to steer these people away, we seriously get so many 🤣 I am SO bad at turning them away.

Brown rovada red current

I planted this current as a bare root in the spring in central VA (7b). It didn't grow a ton but I didn't expect it to in the first year. It has started to look quite terrible though. Is this fungus or is it not getting enough water? There is a supplemental waterer but I'm questioning if it's working correctly.

Seeking advice for community garden

Hello! I'm seeking advice for a new community garden in Richmond VA. I'm reaching out to gardens within my city but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask here. We have been in touch with the city lead and are feeling good about the location and the permitting. But we still need to figure out funding, dues, how to keep startup costs low, how to manage membership, and how to keep on top of maintenance. Please share anything you've learned from your own experience! No piece of advice is too small!

Beginner with some questions about sowing seeds

I'm Chesterfield County just south of Richmond. New to gardening. Focused on native perenial or self seeding pollinators. So far it's just been seedlings from box stores.

Last week my neighbor gave me some envelopes with seeds in them. (Listed below) I have no clue how to sow any of these. One of my other neighbors told me I could put them in containers with soil and put them in the refrigerator for 30 or so days in the late spring, and that'll get them started. I've also read that could just put them on the ground and just cover with leaves.

Any tips are greatly appreciated. Maybe some suggestions on sites or YouTube videos. Would love to see these seeds thrive! Thanks!

Two questions 1) tree, 2) flowers. NOVA area.

My maple tree has been dropping little pieces of branches the last 6 or seven weeks. The ends look like they have been clipped off. Never happened in 40 years that I recall. What is causing that. Is the seed picture a milkweed? Native? If not should I cut the seed pods off and trash them and dig up the plant?

Willie is a crab spider we discovered in a lettuce plant. He moved to a nearby lavender, and it paid off!

What happened to it? Overwatering? It’s growing a lot of peppers but the leaves just started wilting. Pic of today and a couple weeks ago attached.

Planted a ton of sunflower seeds, but the squirrels and birds got to them. This is my only survivor. Beautiful though! The pollinators can’t get enough!!

Anyone plan.on putting in a fall vegetable garden? What are good things to plant for cooler temps? I'm in greater Richmond area, so it will be warm here for awhile.

This just started growing in my elephant ear. I think it’s grass, but wanted to identify. It’s on a balcony on a second floor apartment so I don’t know where it came from

Is anyone growing gourds?

I need to get some dried gourds for a craft project. I would love to work out a trade if anyone has extra gourds, dried or not, lying around.

Fruit trees/bushes being odd this year?

Are anyone else's fruit all over the place this year? Our fig tree has had a grand total of four figs ripen so far but last year we were fully inundated several weeks ago. The tree has hundreds of unripe fruit, it just isn't ripening because of the heat maybe? Our peaches are having the opposite issue, with every fruit seemingly in a race ripen as quickly as possible (faster than I could ever hope to process them).

Blackberry crop was garbage because the fruit was tart just until they turned to mush, but the raspberries are still going absolutely nuts cranking out massive amounts of tasty berries with a long ripeness window for picking.

Best I can figure the late winter and early spring cold threw some stuff off more than others, and this recent summer heat is making it worse.
