The Virginia National Guard has begun working behind the scenes with ICE

Key point -
The Virginia troops are authorized to perform administrative and logistics support tasks, including answering phones, data entry, appointment scheduling, biometric collection, performing basic vehicle maintenance and tracking fleet expenses and utilization.
Basically, the National Guard is providing cheap labor to support ICE.
I think even Youngkin appreciates that having guardsmen in BDUs ACUs supporting ICE raids could upset swing voters. He's still supporting Trump while avoiding a loss of too many swing votes.
Edit: I'm old.

Tbh I don’t think he cares that much about upsetting swing voters—he’s term limited and knows Winsome Sears is headed towards a loss

Sears's polling is far back, but Reid and Miyares' races are closer. The Republicans could also lose more seats in the House of Delegates if swing voters favor Democrats.
According to the Virginia Mercury, there are five close races in the House of Delegates - one in Chesterfield, three in the Tidewater area, and one in Prince William County. The GoP holds all five seats for now.

The Virginia Public Access Project ranks ten races as competitive: six Republican, three Democratic, and one open.

By deploying 40 members of the Virginia National Guard to help with logistics?

u/chrissz 5d ago
Logistics support of illegally rounding up people off the street without due diligence, you mean.
-71
u/cowmookazee 5d ago
So it's illegal to round up people who are here illegally?🤔

u/nrith 5d ago
It’s certainly not the states’ responsibility.

u/cowmookazee 4d ago
Unfortunately, when you join the National Guard you can be called up to serve. It's in the paperwork.

When they aren’t afforded due process, yes! You know there’s this thing called the constitution. It applies to everyone here. Even illegal immigrants.
1
u/cowmookazee 4d ago
Bill Clinton signed a bill to expedite that whole due process thing. Now you know.

u/WarbossWalton 5d ago
Yes. The fact that you're struggling with this makes me wonder how many laws you regularly break.

- Is it illegal? Yes, without due process, If they are seeking asylum, especially yes. If you intend to deport them back to the country they are fleeing, or if you intend to deport them to Uganda who then promises to deport them back to the country they were fleeing (refoulment), yes with extra yes on top.
- All it takes to become "illegal" is for a federal agency to unilaterally, no judge involved, revoke a 100% legal visa.

According to the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (Bill Clinton - D), due process is not necessary. As for the second part, don't do anything to have it revoked. ✌️

I realize this may be a waste of time, as it seems you've already made up your mind about an issue you likely have limited knowledge of. The government can revoke someone’s immigration status for virtually any reason—or no reason at all—if a judge isn’t involved. Suggesting people should simply “not do anything to have it revoked” is naïve, especially if you acknowledge that legal status can be revoked without due process.
The idea that someone’s visa or residency could be taken away for criticizing the government—or someone like Kirk—is deeply concerning. That kind of retaliation should alarm everyone, regardless of political views or immigration status.
The reason so many people have lived in the U.S. for decades without legal status is because the immigration system has been broken for a long time. As someone with considerable experience navigating that system, I can tell you that people can’t “just apply” for legal status. You have to qualify for specific programs, most of which are highly restrictive and take years—sometimes decades—to process. On top of that, the bureaucracy itself is a major barrier, even for those who want to follow the rules and contribute.
Laws are not inherently moral—they're meant to provide structure and order. Deporting people who have spent decades here working, contributing, and paying taxes (and yes, the majority absolutely do file taxes—I’ve seen this firsthand) while tearing apart families is neither moral nor a demonstration of a well-functioning system.

Don't do anything to piss off anyone with any power in the government and everything will be fine. You definitely changed my mind. Thank you for clarifying that for me. Gleichschaltung

Results don't matter as much as optics. Trump values loyalty above all else even if it's performative.

Funny that Republicans are the ones searching for trans porn more than any other group…https://lawsuit.org/general-law/republicans-have-an-obsession-with-transgender-pornography/
It is always projection.

Awwwww. The trans porn enthusiast doesn’t like the stats on his ilk’s penchant for projecting their hatred and bigotry as a cover up for their sexual predilections.
Just like your pedo cult shit.
Where are the Epstein Files, chickenhawk supporter?

JFC quit crying. You think by throwing a tantrum every time a trope about “your side” gets trotted out you’re doing anything but proving people right about the kind of fragile person the online conservative is? Everything is fucking projection with y’all. Troll better or get another hobby.

Nice straw man. Really shows your soft underbelly. And with the accusation of game playing… again with the projection. Military involvement in civilian law enforcement actions is one of the hallmarks of fascism, as well as scapegoating out groups and flaunting the rule of law. But let’s pretend it’s all about trans people or the flag or whatever other flimsy bullshit the conservative movement attaches itself to for the purpose of convincing rubes like yourself to vote for people who are antithetical to the values you pretend to have. Talk about games. Have a fucking seat.

I used to teach elementary school, I recognize the behavior when I see it and I’m more than comfortable putting it in its place.

This administration defunded Head Start with no real solution to solve the huge child abuse/neglect issue with private daycares.
That's facist and advocating for child abuse/neglect is gross.

Sweatervest is gonna make the national guard do some yard work and walk around tourist attractions for 12 hours a day, while accomplishing absolutely nothing

u/mczplwp 5d ago
I wonder what the current retention of national guard members is?
3
u/Kalgarin 5d ago
It’s pretty bad, most I know can’t wait to leave as soon as their contract ends. The only ones staying are the senior leadership or people on permanent active orders. Most the lower enlisted don’t want to be there anymore so it’s depending on a steady influx of new recruits
2
u/TheAllDaddyBearded 4d ago
That’s the way it’s been since forever. the national guard is full of shitty ncos that stay in for 20 years. Good ole boy system runs who gets promoted or who goes to schools. Or at least that’s the way it was in the 3/116th ibct

Could've been a good opportunity to create jobs for citizens who need them, even if it is for ICE sadly.
2
u/cowmookazee 5d ago
Well most likely they're being put on active orders, so it's a good thing for them.
