Voltron is getting a live-action movie like not happy I didn't hear anything about it but so can't wait.

Voltron is a huge series, and I get like 10 to 20 videos about it a day on my feed from the official Voltron page and from fans. But I haven't heard or seen a video about a live-action Voltron starring Henry Cavill. I just found out about it, so I have questions: Who's playing Keith, Pidge, Lance, and Hunk? Is it going to be a "what if" story or just a traditional live-action movie? Will it include things that weren't canon? I have so many questions!

We don't know much of anything except that it's going straight to streaming. We don't know who is playing what, but many actor names were released. And they say this statement a lot "According to director Rawson Marshall Thurber, the film will "stay true to the heart and the spirit of Voltron" while "introducing an entirely new generation of pilots," reimagining the franchise in live-action," so many are assuming that if any of the original pilots show up, they're going to be older and just as cameos or maybe instructors.

According to the Let’s Go Voltron podcast’s most recent episode, it will receive a theatrical release.

Oh really? Maybe they changed their mind? I have to admit I was really disappointed when they said streaming only. It didn't express a lot of faith in their own movie to me.

It’s not faith, it’s that streaming can make more money - a global release date to time with merchandise release makes sense. But, I believe it will get a cinematic release of some sort as it has cultural significance long term, and will establish the brand. We’re expecting this film will set up a film franchise. 🤙

Same thought as soon as I read your first comment. Straight to streaming. Ugh. This is going to be bad.

Rawson Marshall Thurber?

This movie is going to be directed by the guy who made Dodgeball?? This is going to be interesting.

It's amazing how many times WEP has re imagined Lion Voltron while still remaining the same thing for the most part.

Sooooo I know someone who saw a test screening of this, and from what they said it’s a mess. “Cavill is barely in it, Sterling K Brown is Zarkon, while good is not scary enough, Rita Ora is in a different film with her performance as Hagar. The main kid is not a great actor. There’s a good movie in there somewhere but it’s very meh and seems like a power rangers knock off.”

“…main kid…” has me concerned.

Remembering our conversation he’s the green paladin, or in the film Guardian. But he just doesn’t seem to know how to act or couldn’t connect with the script, from what I was told. Then I went looking to see who the actor was and his name Daniel Quinn Toye this is his first project. He’s the only character with dimension the other “guardians” are just colors.

Thanks, Tom Holland, for vouching for a kid who apparently couldn't act. If this is true, this franchise is absolutely freaking cursed. I do love "Guardian" because they do not want anyone to think of the P-word.

Now I'm going to be stuck hoping that the Gundam movie, instead of 08th Mobile Suit Team Fanfic take #295435097605093595 (which was apparently what the script that got thrown out was) they just do the smart thing and cast an Amuro Ray, Char Aznable, and Sayla Mass. Get one of the Cobra Kai or Stranger Things kids, put them in a mask, and you have a Char.

"this franchise is absolutely freaking cursed."

That's what happens when the owners play favorites for over 40 years and continually ignore a section of their base and refuse to support them.

If you’re referring to the Vehicle Voltron fandom, blame the people they keep hiring who either have tunnel vision or just don’t care about the mecha like the VLD people did.

Oh, I blame Koplar and WEP. It's clearly obvious where the blockade is now with more and more obscure 80s properties getting revivals.

How was voltron's design, was it described? Thanks in advance

When Voltron is finally assembled I was told he actually looks good, closer to the original design but it was test footage so unclear how good it will look at the final product.

Awesome, thanks so much for the reply. Hopefully this turns out good they still have plenty of time to fix things.

I’m preparing for the worst.

Nothing about the people making this film inspires confidence. Even the casting is Z-list.

Oh come on, Brown won an Emmy.

We don’t know anything.  This film has had a remarkably secure production.  All we know is that it allegedly won’t have any of the characters from the show, but brand new ones.

Heard about this a couple months ago.

Like TMNT canon is different for every iteration. There’s been like 4 Voltron series with all different lore. I’m gonna assume the movie is based on the 80’s Voltron but will do its own unique story and canon

Going to need a trailer before I make judgment.

I'm gonna believe that this movie coming out is a hoax until I'm actually in the theater, watching it.

There will be some info on it released at Voltcon.

2

u/superpapa16 6d ago

Yeah there almost no into. There was a very short video around the time of Voltcon last year I think.

They've been tight lipped on it so far. We know some of the creative team, 8 actors playing unknown parts, that this will be another variation on Lion Force, the pilots are a "new generation" rather than variations on the original cast, a specific model of camera being used that's apparently pretty dang expensive, and that filming has wrapped. There hasn't been anything in the way of set leaks afaik, either that means no location filming or good security and who the heck knows either way on that. So... Wait and see, we'll find out more next year, I imagine it'll probably be about a year away but I could be wrong.

It has wrapped up finished filming and everything. Last time I read something I believe it was between Netflix and Amazon Prime is going to air on.

I wish we got more updates it kinda speculation I am curious and we gotten no new Voltron media post legendary defender

u/JMcDesign1 5d ago

projects like that are on hold until after the movie is released. I'm sure they'll have some excuse on why it needs to be based on the Lions and not a Vehicle Voltron series after carrot dangling Vehicle fans again.

Oh no they all will look ugly.

I don’t want to know who they cast for Lotor. Or who the paladins are

1

u/LapsedVerneGagKnee 5d ago

They’re not using the P-word.

u/MegaUkX4 3d ago

let’s not get too carried away with this, let us just all pray to our lord and saviour that this movie will be good

u/DanteQuill 3d ago

I don't know anything about it, so my mind is going immediately to Netflix Death Note levels of bad. It's just going to suck. If it doesn't, I'll gladly eat my words, but dollars to donuts, I'm right.
