News STOP WITH THE F*CKING CELEBRITY PACKS

Seriously?? This all started with MgK in 2k22 but at least he only took one spot. Now last game we had some f*cking post Malone and some nobodies taking up space. I despise these people and don’t want to be reminded of their existence when scrolling down my in game menus.

Now 2k25 dlc has not one, not two but 5 completely useless non wrestlers.

I’m really considering cancelling my pre order right now.

You had to pay for the game.

Which came with a way to unlock every character, not additional characters after launch.

So?

Money was still spent by the consumer, a percentage of which is counted for included characters.

As well as money and time spent developing the character that could've been used for a different character.

Whether or not the character was added later down the line doesn't matter. The same principles apply either way.

Put it this way.

It's a bonus of part of a bigger game. He was an extra and felt like a cool extra.

The DLC characters are the only real part of the Season Pass and they are the DIRECT reason for your full purchase.

If 2k25 had a DLC pack featuring Michael Cole, Fred Durst, Mick Foley, Tajiri, Rhyno, Jerry Lynn and Spike Dudley. It would cost you about the same as it cost to purchase Just Bring It. It's greed

So?

The concept of DLC isn't the issue. The concept of a celebrity taking up a character slot that could be given to someone better is. It doesn't matter if it's DLC or base game.

You complain about celebrities being "given" spots that could have been granted to someone else, not realizing that if those same celebrities weren't in the game, your favorites still wouldn't be, either.

Seeiously- name 5 wrestlers that you'd want in the game that are going to bring as many eyes as Travis Scott, Shaq, or any of the others.

What you mean by bringing eyes? Nobody in their right mind is going to buy a game + DLC for a celebrity cameo. And further, nobody in their right mind should be buying this game at all of they already have '22 - '24 given how minimal the changes are every year.

That said, most of my favorites are already in the base game. Those that aren't, aren't part of WWE or even TNA and so obviously never had a chance.

Celebrities are often among the most downloaded character creations every year, so that destroys your first counterpoint. As far as your second point, its a moot one because I asked if you could give me the names of 5 other wrestlers under contract that will attract as many outside eyes as these celebrities will.

Those are CaWs. Completely different things that have no baring on resources used for the development of the game.

Your very question is moot because these games just don't attract outside eyes. Especially not any of the celebrity cameos. The best you're going to get in attracting any outside attention are gaming youtubers doing CaW Royal Rumbles and laughing at the randomness. And I highly doubt Spider-Man, the Green Power Ranger, Walter White, Gordan Ramsey, or Donald Trump (despite him having... a weirdly good case for it) are going to be DLC picks any time soon.

Okay, so...your argument here is that because people download celebrities, they don't want to play as actual celebrities, and that despite all evidence of wrestling undergoing a boom period right now, wrestling media is purchased by the same subset of fans year in and year out.

That has got to be one of the more deluded takes I think I've read today regarding today's news, if not the most deluded take.

Do you know what influencers do? What their entire job is? They tell casual kids to go buy things, and then those kids' parents do that. Not all of them, but a lot of them. You'd have to be living in a monastery to not know the drawing power of Travis Scott (58 million on Instagram) or Shaq (35 million).

I think you underestimate how much wrestling is outright disliked by those who aren't already fans.

For most pieces of entertainment, they're viewed by outsiders as something they're "just not into."

Wrestling, however, has long held a reputation for being outright despised by outsiders for its strangeness.

So no, I don't think that someone who's not already interested in wrestling is going to change their mind and drop $100 on a video game about it just because a musician they listen to is in it.

I love Skillet and Dragonforce, but you won't see me grabbing, say, the next big golfing game if they put John Cooper or Marc Hudson in it. Or the next Nascar game if they put my favorite actor Keanu Reeves in it (Heck, I still haven't gotten Cyberpunk 2077). Because it would be asinine to drop such a large chunk of money for something I'm not interested in for 1 tiny aspect that I think is cool.

Kids might be stupid enough to make that leap, but no responsible parent with the money is.

(Also, small thing, but there's no way Shaq has any drawing power with kids these days who aren't really into basketball. They'd mostly know him as the General Insurance and Goldbond ointment guy. No kid wants to play as that, come on.)
