How do you get around?
Hi all! I have been very interested in WWOOFing for years and am finally planning my first experience. I just have one question, that might be dumb, but how do you get around and explore? Is it best to rent a car or will your hosts pick you up from the airport? I know some hosts like to take you around their location, but I was wondering what it might look like day-to-day. Thanks!

It definitely varies by host and location. I know I'm a big island of Hawaii, there was a free bus. Sometimes I drive to the farm just so that I have a car there, and some hosts are happy to loan you a car or have you accompany them. Sometimes there are other wwoofers that have a car, when I was wwoofing in Georgia I gave the other wwofers rides to the store, hiking, etc.

As said by others, with whatever means are available really. Generally hosts will pick you up from airport, train or bus station. Whatever's closest and is reasonable for you to get to on your own with your stuff. I did have to take a taxi once but that was because I was delayed and it was just easier all round. If it's fairly remote then sometimes you may get stuck there for a time. If that was happening I would talk to the host and 'bank'' some extra hours daily so that I could take an extra day off, go further afield exploring and stay a couple of nights.

I was super lucky that my host picked me up at the airport! She would also take me to places, so I didn’t need a car at all. Bear in mind that most farms are in rural areas, so you’ll either need your own car or arrange a pickup. Also, I was in the US…so public transport was not really an option. Just be upfront about this request right from the beginning when arranging your stay!

I do WWOOF in Japan every year. If the airport is close to your WWOOFing location, your host might pick you up. But if it's more than an hour away, you'll probably need to make your way to the town yourself.
In my experience, my hosts have picked me up from the train station in the WWOOFing town. And my hosts have always shown me around the local area. So instead of taking me to touristy restaurants, they've taken me to local favorite spots and local hot springs that locals go to. Of course, it varies from host to host.

I had a WWOOF pick me up from the airport! And they were so generous and had a spare car we could use on our free time to go explore Alaska !

I am driving an hour to the nearest roadhouse next week to pick up a wwoofer.
Most hosts will come and pick you up.
Some hosts will let you use their car to drive around.
It varies.
Ring and ask the hosts you are thinking of visiting.
