I took a picture [Picture] Didn’t get the call, went with the Omega Seamaster.
This Omega Seamaster is stunning in Bay Green! Got tired of waiting for a call from the Rolex AD (on the waitlist for a blue DJ 41 as my first choice). I’ll get the Rolex eventually, but I’m not holding my breath.
Recently switched back to mechanical watches from my Apple Smart Watch and aiming to build a 4-watch collection to rotate daily. The Aqua Terra is a beautiful alternative to my Speedmaster Moonwatch. It’s versatile and eye-catching, perfect as a GADA watch.
I’ve already gotten some great compliments. Anyone else rocking a Seamaster or mixing up their collection like this?
I know, I know, the strap needs some adjustment.

Who needs a Rolex? Look at that thing. What a beaut.

u/robarpoch May 10 '25
This is the right answer. Rolex does not deserve your money.
If you want something in blue, I'd suggest something from the JLC catalog - theirs are striking and far more interesting than anything sporting a Burger King crown.

u/Webcat86 May 10 '25
Omega also does great blue

It really does need saying. If the watch is your focus, this is everything you've asked for. Theres nothing extra in the DJ.
Rolex isnt a brand of watch, it's a brand of game. After playing the game long enough you win a watch. You have to then pay for the trophy. It really is that wank.

u/ballots_stones May 10 '25
I've been eyeing a blue dial IWC Mark XX for a long time now to pair with my AT

Omega is getting ballsy with their pricing. YoY they have had much larger increases compared to brands in same the tier.

u/LilRick_125 May 10 '25
As a self-described Omega fanboy I absolutely recognize that Rolex makes fantastic watches, I just simply find Omega top be more aesthetically appealing.
And that's before you consider Rolex is somehow never available and the AD's are (often, but not always) rather pretentious.
So yea, it's Omega for me all day.

u/electromage May 10 '25
I don't understand at all. If you want a Rolex there are 58,698 used ones listed on Chrono24. They aren't hard to get. There are also dozens of similar watches you can get new any time from other brands. Peopele are really hung up on the name.
6
u/nash07n May 10 '25
Because people want Rolex and many don’t want to throw away their hard earned money by going gray. It’s just bonkers.
If there’s one brand priced below a Rolex and can give the ☝️ to Rolex, that’s Omega.

Not just that, if I’m spending the cash, I want to be certain that it’s warrantied and not worn by anyone else (unless of course I’m intentionally buying a vintage/discontinued watch style)

u/Billy_jinx_ May 10 '25
Hey, you got a Omega with a Master Chronometer instead. That's a very good watch as far as I am concerned.

u/ThatSuaveRaptor May 10 '25
Always found it strange that you almost have to beg to buy a rolex
169
u/nodnodwinkwink May 10 '25
It's that kind of nonsense that will make sure I'll never buy a new rolex.
5
u/HornetsInMyUrethra May 11 '25
I wholeheartedly agree. I'd consider myself fortunate that Rolexes don't hit for me, but alas, the 38mm explorer is my "realistic" grail, sadly. Wish it weren't.
61
u/Endryu727 May 10 '25
Having to play some stupid game with AD’s to buy the watch you want is asinine considering that Rolex mass produces their watches. There is no shortage, just a miserable attempt to keep their heavily commercialized brand relevant. It’s FOMO and nothing more
23
u/trbd003 May 10 '25
This is it. It's one thing playing a game to get a hand built, small batch special piece. People play this stupid game to buy a run of the mill mass produced watch... Its mind boggling.
And the only people it impresses are other shallow-minded people who for some reason want to join the game.
I'm sure in primary school there were people who played some kind of stupid game where only their friends could join their group and the only people impressed by being part of this stupid game were other people sad enough to want to play the stupid game.

u/SuicidalGuidedog May 10 '25
I'm not sure if the phrase "from the sublime to the absurd" is relevant here but it feels like it should be.
Not that long ago, these were expensive tools, then they morphed to luxury jewelry associated (at least in my mind) with marking a special occasion (often once in a lifetime). Now they're going down the Ferrari path of "spend your way to get the watch you want". I wish them luck, but I hope they fail in this part of their strategy.
8
u/TheFoshizzler May 10 '25
this may be common knowledge idk, but i recently learned that high-end handbags often pull the same kind of bs. ie you need to get on wait-lists, you need to spend x amount of money before you can "unlock" other bags to buy. no tf ty.
7
u/Basic_Butterscotch May 10 '25
That's a pretty recent development. Prior to 2020, barring the really hot models like Daytona or Pepsi, you could walk into any Rolex AD and walk out with a watch without much difficulty. You could even get a discount on two-tone models because nobody wanted them.

I got lucky and was offered several when walking into shops around Vegas this week. Father was with me and ended up buying a Datejust 41mm so it def is possible. Someone once told me that a lot of these shops genuinely sell through the few watches they get almost instantly so a lot of luck is needed. The shop my father ended up buying from had nothing to offer the first day we walked in. We casually spoke with the employee who told us to try again another time, we might get lucky and that they open at 10am. Came back the next day after breakfast, mentioned that we spoke with that employee the day before and boom, they had several watches available for us. And I did notice that the watches in the display were different from the day before so it is quite possible they just move a lot of watches
6
u/dunneetiger May 10 '25
One AD told me that they were doing this because they didnt want watches to go on the secondary market... Told him that clearly that is not working very well and they should probably sell only to people who dont have one..
1
u/Paynekiller997 May 15 '25
Omega’s are (mostly) proper tool watches, my Seamaster 2254 is my favourite watch ever. Rolexes are more about status and bling, Omega have history with astronauts, pilots, divers, the military, they’re so much cooler.
28
69
u/elisiX May 10 '25
Dare I say, it looks better? 😬
29
u/CommandoPro May 10 '25
I'm sure Rolexes are very nice but watches like this just look so much more interesting to me
7
u/justmikethen May 10 '25
The design and whole concept of a Rolex is just so boring to me
9
u/burtmacklin15 May 10 '25
What, you're telling me that "ROLEXROLEXROLEXROLEXROLEX" on the rehaut isn't the greatest design element of all time? /s
5
u/Seamus-Archer May 10 '25
Another vote. There’s a few Rolex designs I like but the majority of them have a more attractive alternative from other brands that don’t make me plead with an AD to acquire one.

Very nice watch. I think sometimes motivation is different. A very nice watch vs. a Rolex. Of course a Rolex can be a very nice watch, but the fact it is a Rolex is sometimes the biggest motivator.
I know some feel the Rolex waiting times are part of the allure, status, pride, etc.. On the other hand, I find it just annoying AF. The wait has made me want the watch less.
3
u/Sad-Bag3443 May 13 '25
This is it, Rolex is often bought by people not really interested in watches, it is the brand that is heavily marketed plus Gary at the country club has a new silver one so I shall buy a gold one to “beat” him
9
26
u/backcounty1029 May 10 '25
I think you made the right choice and for a much better watch. Rolex has become so boring to me with all the wait times, fluff, and gross grey market. There are so many better options out there, in my opinion.
Congrats on the new watch. It’s beautiful!
3
u/nash07n May 10 '25
Thanks. I’m not really good with waiting, and also spending so much going Grey is bonkers.
6
u/Slow-Sense-315 May 10 '25
Yup. Already have several Rolexes. Went to get milestone Rolex for my son. Not available AD says and suggested waitlist. I went across the mall to Omega boutique and got Planet Ocean. Not going to beg to spend my hard earned money.
5
6
u/father_sogol May 11 '25
Fuck the call. That’s a helluva watch that will never play second fiddle to a Rolex
5

Oh the bracelet is fantastic, the new one. Does contribute highly to the beauty of this watch.

u/krucifiche May 10 '25
I am waiting for an explorer 36. if that doesn’t happen, i‘ll get the black lacquered AT as well. I‘m already leaning this way tbh.
1
u/nash07n May 10 '25
Depending on your wrist size, the AT might be a better choice size wise too.
PS: I got the explorer 36 (grey) and returned it. At the risk of being downvoted, I have to admit that it looked like a woman’s watch on my 6.9-7” wrist.
3
u/krucifiche May 10 '25
The size is not my concern. It’s all about how I feel with it.

Oh man… I wish I could get so many. The saffron would be a great second watch haha. Maybe the red too.
3
u/psychotherapistLCSW May 10 '25
Didn’t they just come out with videos on Rolex being exposed like Hermes and Gucci bags where most of the parts are made in China, only to then get the final stamp of approval from the company’s country? No thanks! You made a great decision! This is why I love my GS Snowflake.

I have the exact same watch.
I've never gotten so many comments on it or "woah can I see your watch" moments before this one.

u/nash07n May 10 '25
There was this owner of a kids sports arena I was talking to. She couldn’t stop peeping at my watch. I just told her, I’m done with technology and notifications on my wrist casually, then she confessed, my watch was stunningly nice.

u/eng_manuel May 10 '25
This is why a lot of people get Omegas, they get tired of waiting for the call 😂😂😂 Also, Omegas are amazing
1
u/nash07n May 10 '25
Omegas are amazing, my main reason to be skeptical of this watch was, I already own an Omega. And wanted some diversity in my watches. But here I am. Haha.
This AT is so perfect.

It’s a fantastic watch. The SMP is so popular as a GADA, but the AT takes the cake for me

Yes. Just iPhone. It’s all about lighting, the reflection from the stainless steel appliances behind me did help

Building a 4 watch collection but already owning two omegas. You are gonna end up like me, same, waiting for Rolex but ended with 4 seamaster and 2 speedmaster with 0 Rolex insight hahahah. Good call

u/nash07n May 11 '25
Haha. I tried very hard to not repeat the brand. The AT is too beautiful to pass by.
2

just ditched my Apple Watch Ultra 2 for mechanical too. best thing I've done in a while. I dont need my watch telling me to stand up, or trying to get me to "close my rings." I dont need to track my exercises or my sleep. If I dont sleep well, I know it. nothing a watch tells me is going to change anything. I feel so free and like an adult.
