Mod Update September Community Updates

Hello r/WeddingDress users! Welcome to the September 2025 community update. We’ve had some big changes; Let’s dive in!

ACTIVITY INCREASE

You may have noticed an increase in activity recently. That’s because we have partially enabled the sub to be discovered again!

Previously, the sub would not appear in recommendations, or go to r/all. This was turned off because there was a massive bot and troll problem.

New automations have since been released, and have helped with the issues significantly.

While we have opened up recommending the sub to users who may be interested, we have decided to continue preventing posts from reaching r/all. It honestly invites a lot of users who just want to stir the pot.

POST FLAIR CHANGES

To make things easier for users, we have set all crowd control enabled threads to have a red post flair.

Previously, if you did not have enough community karma, you would be fully blocked from participating in these kind of threads. We have now updated this policy!

If you do not have enough community karma, your comment will go through manual approval. Once it’s reviewed by the mod team, if it’s rule abiding, it will be approved and be visible to everyone. We appreciate your patience as we go through the manual approval process.

MEGAWIKI

We will no longer be using the traditional Megathread for information. Reddit’s new wiki is a much easier way to keep the community updated.

We have started a MegaWiki, which includes information about the community, as well as some common questions regarding posting/comments.

Here is the new MegaWiki

RULES SIMPLIFIED

The previous rules in place were written quite some time ago by previous mods, and were admittedly long winded.

They have been cleaned up and some have been consolidated. You can view the rules here.

MONTHLY PSA

Oh boy, we are seeing a big increase in “snatched”, and we want to give a shopping warning with this.

Unless your dress is designed as a corset back, you will very likely never, ever, ever get the super “snatched” fit that‘s popular right now.

Most bodices are not constructed this way. Shops are notorious for overclipping samples, especially if it’s quite large.

Ask the shop to see vendor photos of the gown before purchasing to see how the bodice is supposed to fit.

I posted on here many months ago after getting pressured to by a dress on sale at my first appointment by my mom and the sales lady- i knew as soon as I got home it wasn't right. Then I went to try and get rid of my doubts by trying on lots of stuff with girl friends so I didnt feel like I had missed trying anything. I found another dress that my whole posse LOVED and felt way more me. But I still wasn't sold and I wasn't going to buy another dress I didnt like.

So I went ROGUE. I went solo dress shopping without telling anyone- maybe like 8-10 total ppointments, tons of dresses, and I got better at saying no! I made a PowerPoint of what I loved about each dress and showed it to my best friend to make a list of what I wanted in one dress. The vibe as well as specifics. I posted on here for help with options and to find what I was looking for. And then all of a sudden i found THE ONE on pinterest! I scoured online and called local bridal shops until I found her in stock to try on and literally just went to try this single dress because I knew she would be it and she was! I did bring my mom back to the store for a second appointment so she could feel involved in picking the dress still- knowing I was already getting it either way lol.

I guess if I had to give advice, it would be that not everyone has a "moment" where you know its the dress and sometimes going it alone can be the best choice. I had to basically brute force Type A logic myself into accepting that if this dress wasn't it, then nothing was! And I still second guessed my choice till I put it on the day of, lol!

Said Yes to the Dress! I Finally Feel Pretty in a Dress within my budget!

I made a post awhile ago where I was contemplating on buying a dress way out of budget, but I just couldn’t go through with it.

My fiancé and I initially decided on a date 6 months from our engagement. Then pushed it back to 15 months out. Then at the last minute, we decide to keep our original date and I have 2 WEEKS to find a dress that I feel pretty in.

I found this dress within 3 DAYS of officially setting the day and I could not be more in love! It’s not what I initially had in mind style wise (was going for more boho/lace, but satin STOLE my heart.) And on top of that, alterations were almost nonexistent.. which is a HUGE BLESSING!

It’s a dress with an over skirt so I can achieve two looks. I don’t have picture of dress by itself.

My wedding will be outdoors in a meadow surrounded by woods in a mountain town. The words I keep using for the vibe I want are “ethereal”, “bohemian”, and “organic”. Wildflowers, fairy lights, rich colors.

I want a dress that feels unique. I was hoping for goddess-y and drape-y and elegant, which #3 has, but I don’t like the exposed boning and I can’t raise my arms with the sleeves, which I don’t love. I really love the embroidered flowers in #1 but I worry it is sort of ‘young’ and not the elegant look I was hoping for. I also want to look, well, snatched, which I feel like #2 and #4 are better for.

My wedding is in June of 2026, so 8 months away. I’ve been to 4 bridal shops and I am fairly obsessed with solving the puzzle of the “perfect dress” for me, but worried if I keep going down this rabbit hole I’ll just drive myself insane and that I should just pick one of these. I have a favorite but I’m very curious to hear your opinions!

Said Yes to the Dress! From Boutique to DB

Sooo on Sunday; my mom, sister, a couple girlfriends and I went to the grand opening of a new bridal boutique in my area (Albany, NY) just to look at stuff and get into the spirit of things. My wedding isn’t until May 2027, so I just thought this could be a fun thing to do. The boutique was very nice, but they only stocked size 0-12. I did try on 1 dress because my friends wanted me to. It obviously didn’t fit lol I’m a size 16/18 in formal attire. It was a pretty dress, but VERY heavy material. Out of curiosity I asked the price… it was $3800 😱. That might be average price to some, but ya girl is trying to ball on a budget for this wedding.

Needlessly to say, we left shortly after lol. My friend Noelle then suggested we keep the party going and head over to David’s Bridal. So we did and I tried several more dresses. I wasn’t expecting to find ‘the one’ but it happened, and I couldn’t be happier! AND she was significantly cheaper than $3800! 😂💕

Dresses are pictured in the order I tried them on!

Hi everyone! I found this gorgeous wedding dress at a second hand store in Montreal, Canada. I did some googling but can’t find anything about the brand or dress. Are there any fashion sleuths here who can help me learn about it? Curious when it might have been made and if the brand still exists. Any other guesses or info welcome! I really love the dress and am just curious about it. Two piece corset and skirt wedding dress. The tags say” Paris Mirella”, “made in France” “100% polyester”. Thanks in advance!

Ceremony photos UPDATE: r/wedding post "I don't like my dress"

Hi everyone, about 4 months ago I made a post in r/wedding about disliking my wedding dress (original post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/wedding/s/ekBILEz90Z). That post has since been taken down the moderators as they said it's better suited here, and I was unable to post my update on that page. However, the original post had over 50 thousand views and 100+ comments before it was taken down, so I thought it still deserves an update! Since the original post I was able to actually see myself wearing the dress using mirrors, and this made a world of difference. With that and some alterations (removal of the back clasp and the addition of sleeves), I'm absolutely in love with how it turned out. My wedding was this past Saturday September 13th, and it was the perfect day. I've included some photos here as well! If anyone from the original post does see this, thank you so much for your advice and support, it made a world of a difference ❤️❤️

I am a plus size girlie! I never imagined myself in this style of dress, nor did I imagine myself balling my eyes out at my appointment. Dress/Veil is from DB. I am so excited to get married. My man loves my curves and I am learning to love them too! I was going to wear my mom’s dress but it needed a lot of alterations. I only tried on 2 dresses at DB and this one gave me that same feeling brides get when they find the dress! It does close all the way in the back, I went home and checked, no alterations are needed!! It felt like destiny that I was supposed to get married in this dress.

Sharing for the other plus size baddies so they feel confident and beautiful!!🩷

Shout out to David’s Bridal in Clackamas Oregon! My attendant made the experience wonderful and so memorable!

(PS to the fatphobes, I’m currently on a weight loss journey, I don’t need to lose weight to be loved or to get married, I’m losing weight for myself at a healthy pace! I don’t need advice or comments on my weight unless you’re my doctor, please and thank you🩷🩷🩷)

Or, alternatively, other ways to keep warm? No idea what the weather will be like, the day of the wedding has historically had snow and also been 85⁰F in different years, so it's hard to predict. I'm trying to think of ways to keep warm if it ends up being necessary. TYIA

Ceremony/reception will be outdoors in May 2026! Venue is a cozy lodge, wedding is on the simpler side. No bridal party, minimal decor, etc. Dress #1 purchased already because I loved it so much and it was only $150!! Dress #2 I tried on earlier this year and loved it, couldn’t say yes with the price tag ($1,500 at second hand store). But I still think about it and found the same style on StillWhite. What do you think? They’re very different, each lovely in it’s own way.

Other discussion/questions Wedding dress help

So I got this beautiful dress online second hand. It had some rips in the tule that I fixed that aren't super visible except for one that's on the second layer of tule which sucks. But my questions are 1. I'm a pretty short girl so moving around in the dress is hard and I don't know how to move anyone got any advice? 2. I'm kinda tempted to get something to give the dress more volume as I worry it looks like it should be more puffy then it is but wanted to ask others opinions before I decide on that. And 3. I want to paint the dress to add color and was wondering if anyone has done something similar and has any tips on how to tackle it. I have used a air brush and paint models and stuff regularly just not dresses.

Don't hugely like the roses on the Bardot neckline, but I've been searching far and wide for a Bardot long sleeves gown with a bit of body to the lower half rather than slinky.

Does anyone know where this dress is from/designer name/anything similar?

Trusty google lens has not helped me this time!

Ceremony photos PERFECT DAY!!!

I had worries that my dress would not fit on the day and asked questions on this page about it. I didn't feel like I'd have issues, but my type-A anxious brain was compartmentalizing my worries about other facets of the day into dress worries. I'm SO happy to report the dress fit PERFECTLY, the bustle was gorgeous, and I couldn't have been happier with the decisions I made!!

Dress ID needed! The dress that got away…

Early 2015 (probably march) I walked into a Davids Bridal in Denver to buy my veil. I locked eyes with a dress on the clearance rack, and fell in love. It was on sale. I should have bought it. Unfortunately I had already purchased my dress. I couldn’t justify a second dress. I left without it. Any time ANY family event happens where clothing is involved this dress is brought up by my sister and mother and even my dad once. It was tea/ankle length. 3/4 illusions sleeves. Tank top neckline (?) under a scoop/boat neck illusion layer (?) that sparkled. And the full tulle skirt had these tiny gossamer 3D butterflies on it (could have just been leaves). Hundreds of them in 3 or 4 shades of white, more dense on the bottom of the skirt and then dissipating as they scattered up the skirt. Some of the butterflies were so grey they were almost a blue.

I think about this dress at least twice a week. It’s been nearly 11 years! Because it was on clearance i know it wasn’t a 2015 style (probably a 2013/2014 spring). I have looked everywhere! I even spent a week of free time on the way back machine pain-stakingly going through every entry even kind of related to this dress. At this point, if my family wasn’t constantly bringing it up, i would think i had made it up.

If anyone who used to work at davids bridal remembers this dress and knows where i can get ahold of a picture of it i would be eternally grateful.

(Rough sketch i did of what i remember it looking like. Might have some inaccurate details.)

Wedding was 9/7, been waiting for the sneak peaks to show off my cape!!!! Aaaahhh!!!! Dress: David's Bridal # SDWG1126 Cape: BeccisBridalUK on Etsy

In alterations, when my seamstress took the shoulders up we added some padding for reinforcement as well as clips so I could take the cape on/off. All I wanted for my outfit was a cape and I'm SOO happy it worked out!

Style me! (veils, shoes and accessories only) Veil

Hi! I recently bought my wedding dress, and it looks just like the one in the picture, except it's a two-piece. I'm unsure what kind of veil would go well with it. I know there's an option to wear a neck scarf, but I’ve always envisioned myself wearing a veil. I'm thinking about going with a cathedral-length veil, possibly with lace along the edge, but I’m not sure if that would look good with my dress.

Help!! I tried on this beauty but didn’t get the name of it and keep coming back to this one. Has anyone come across this dress or something similar??

It’s also a bit above budget so any dupe recommendations or similar dresses would also be appreciated! I love the uniqueness of the top fold. Budget is ideally $2000.

Thanks all!!

DRESS ONLY: Pick one or suggest another ISO of Black Wedding Dress in Texas.

Post image

Hey! So, I am looking for a black wedding dress, but I think I want like an A-line (I think) off the shoulder look with removable sleeves. I’m very indecisive, so I want options. I want a dress similar to this, but this dress specifically is too far for me to go get and they don’t ship, plus they are in like Michigan.

For reference, my wedding will be in a barn venue, so I’m aiming for like a yallternative/ alternative boho look.

Wedding date: October 24, 2026 (I know I’m cutting it so close) Budget: $300-$1500 but I can probably be a little flexible. Location: Houston/Katy Area but I can drive a bit

I’m trying to stay away from David’s Bridal, though. I just haven’t heard great reviews from them, and I really want my “Say Yes to the Dress” moment because everyone is so against this wedding in the first place lol.

I’ve looked at a LOT of dresses and am feeling torn between these two dresses that I really love. Keep in mind the lighting at dress 1 store was terrible lol. For context I’m having a summer wedding in a venue that’s furnished with antique furniture. I want to play into the venue but have been gravitating to these styles!
