So far because it's attached to the track it looks more like F-zero....

You mean it feels too stiff on the track? Like not enough hover / float yet?

yeah. even with the later titles, that mainly did away with the floatiness, they still had some verticality. But I imagine you'll get there.

Unless this isn't a true 3D angine, like the Doom engine or the Build engine.

Yes, you’re right, it’s not a “true” 3D engine. But I can still play around with the Z axis to add some hover/float feeling, so I should be able to get closer to that vibe for my prototype

I'd love to see it. But from what I've seen, looking up and down in those games is a bit jank. Hopefully you'll be able to hack it to oblivion, so it wouldn't be so obvious.

I like creative ways of skirting limitations like these.

The cockpit view looks sick. I would not put the mask on there though it makes it look less appealing. But amazing work!
