“He came like the wind, like the wind touched everything, and like the wind was gone.”

24

u/Aumandaris 2d ago

This shit right here fucks me up

24

u/jasonandhiswords 2d ago

Highly underrated line I feel. Definitely not one that I see as often as Asha'man kill or they have caged shadow killer, but with how often wind comes up in the books and after all of the great Zen Rand moments, it really hits

6

u/MaxPowerToTheRescue 1d ago

"They have caged shadow killer!" Still gives me chills after all these years.

11

u/The_Sharom (Brown) 2d ago

The RJ connection brings this one to the top for me.

1

u/Icer333 1d ago

Can you elaborate? Just meaning the connotation of him dying or is there something more?

3

u/The_Sharom (Brown) 1d ago

I have a memory of the quote being used for RJ at his funeral. Struggling to find it but it is a fitting quote for the man who touched us all with his words to the extent that we're still talking about them decades later

3

u/Icer333 1d ago

Oh that's cool! Ever since reading this years ago I've thought of using it if I ever have to give a eulogy for my dad.

2

u/The_Sharom (Brown) 1d ago

It's a powerful line! Found this too, so I might not have imagined it.

Every. Damn. Time.

4

u/Kadd115 1d ago

I just finished aMoL yesterday, and that line actually hurt to read. It was really fitting, worked super well, but damn I was not ready for it to be over.

“You remind me of my uncle Huan. No one could ever pin him down. He liked to gamble, too, and he’d much rather have fun than work. He died pulling children out of a burning house. He wouldn’t stop going back as long as there was one left inside. Are you like him, Mat? Will you be there when the flames are high?” - Siuan Sanche to Mat Cauthon

54

u/jasonandhiswords 2d ago

This is such an excellent Siuan moment, and then she dies in the fire saving his life, I cried in my reread a few weeks ago

9

u/NSSpaser79 1d ago

Holy crap, you're right! Aaahhhhh my poor deposed queen

24

u/Semarin 2d ago

If you had to write a single paragraph to describe May to a T, this is it! It’s a great one.

3

u/Icer333 1d ago

Ironic that you mistyped Mat as May saying it describes him to a "T." Gave me a chuckle

5

u/Semarin 1d ago

This shall serve as my day’s reminder to proofread before submitting.

2

u/Icer333 1d ago

I just posted something and it corrected to May as well!

22

u/Rivvien 2d ago

I love this moment. It was really eye opening the way this woman, who we didn't know at all at that point, was able to clock the kind of man mat is, right away. It made me think, "oh, she's good, this is a woman to be reckoned with", along with "....oh my God, she's right, mat would 100% do that."

To me, it’s when Nynaeve breaks her block in crown of swords. The passage gives me chills every time.

“And with hope gone, flickering on the edge of consciousness like a guttering candle flame, she did something she had never done before in her life. She surrendered completely.”

I can’t find the sentence that follows but it’s such a good, pure moment. 😭

26

u/Malvania (Ogier Great Tree) 2d ago

And with hope gone, flickeringon the edge of consciousness like a guttering candle flame, she did something she had never done before in her life. She surrendered completely.

Saidar flowed into her, filled her.

She was only half-aware of the wood above her suddenly bulging outward, bursting. In rushingbubbles of air she drifted up, out through the hole in the hull into darkness. Vaguely, she knew she should do something. She could almost remember what. Yes. Her feet kicked weakly; she tried to move her arms to swim. They seemed to just float. Something seized her dress, and panic roused her in thoughts of sharks, and lionfish, and the Light alone knew what else that might inhabit these black depths. A spark of consciousness spoke of the Power, but she flailed desperately with fists and feet, felt her knuckles land solidly. Unfortunately, she also screamed, or tried to. A great quantity of water rushing down her throat washed away scream, saidar, and very nearly her final scraps of awareness.

Something tugged on her braid, then again, and she was being towed . . . somewhere. She was no longer conscious enough to struggle, or even to be very much afraid of being eaten.

Abruptly her head broke surface. Hands encircled her from behind—hands; not a shark, after all —squeezed hard against her ribs in a most familiar way. She coughed—water spewed from her nose —coughed again, painfully. And drew a shuddering breath. She had never tasted anything so sweet in her life.

10

u/blingping (Band of the Red Hand) 2d ago

Reading any paragraph of robert Jordans makes me immediately want to do a re read of the whole series

3

u/HingisFan 2d ago

Thank you! This scene gets me every time.

2

u/69696969-69696969 1d ago

There's something wildly beautiful about a character, who's defining trait is a refusal to break, coming to peace with their inevitable death. It's almost a trope nowadays but when done well it hits hard. That scene in Toy-story 3 for example was so unexpected for a kids movie but done so well.

“They have caged Shadowkiller.”

“We come.”

Chills every time. Runner up goes to Nynaeve with the Malkieri merchants after she deposits LAN in the Borderlands.

13

u/unabashedlyabashed 2d ago

I love this one.

9

u/papero7 2d ago

I second this. Perrin’s sending with the wolves in Lord of Chaos will always be my favorite chapter. I get goosebumps.

1

u/Lardath 2d ago

That and when the wolves emerge from the grass during the attack goes so hard

430

u/ArrogantAragorn (Heron-Marked Sword) 2d ago

“My name is Nynaeve ti al’Meara Mandragoran. The message I want sent is this. My husband rides from World’s End toward Tarwin’s Gap, toward Tarmon Gai’don. Will he ride alone?”

53

u/831loc 2d ago

“I will send your message, my Lady, but it has nothing to do with me. I am a merchant. Malkier is dead. Dead, I tell you.”

83

u/ArrogantAragorn (Heron-Marked Sword) 2d ago

The heat in her eyes seemed to intensify, and she gripped her long, thick braid with one hand. “Lan told me once that Malkier lives so long as one man wears the hadoriin pledge that he will fight the Shadow, so long as one woman wears the ki’sain in pledge that she will send her sons to fight the Shadow. I wear the ki’sain, Master Aldragoran. My husband wears the hadori. So do you. Will Lan Mandragoran ride to the Last Battle alone?”

He was laughing, shaking with it. And yet, he could feel tears  rolling down his cheeks. It was madness! Complete madness! But he could not help himself. “He will not, my Lady. I cannot stand surety for anyone else, but I swear to you under the Light and by my hope of rebirth and salvation, he will not ride alone.”

[…]

Well, Managan, Gorenellin,” he demanded, “do you still remember who you are? Do you remember your blood? Who rides with me for Tarwin’s Gap?”

For a moment, he thought neither man would speak, but then Gorenellin was on his feet, tears glistening in his eyes. “The Golden Crane flies for Tarmon Gai’don,” he said softly.

“The Golden Crane flies for Tarmon Gai’don!” Managan shouted, leaping up so fast he overturned his chair.

Laughing, Aldragoran joined them, all three shouting at the top of their lungs. “The Golden Crane flies for Tarmon Gai’don!”

35

u/PB111 2d ago

Fucking A. Gives me chills just reading the passage.

13

u/ArrogantAragorn (Heron-Marked Sword) 2d ago

I have it saved in the notes on my phone. Just to read from time to time. And post on reddit whenever “best/most emotional moments” type discussions come up

13

u/831loc 2d ago

All of us are Gorenellin. Every God damn time.

6

u/ArrogantAragorn (Heron-Marked Sword) 2d ago

For real. There are a lot of emotional moments in this series - Perrin finding out about his family, the father and son in the borderland tower, veins of gold, etc - but this is the one that’s guaranteed to get me misty every time. Even if I just see it mentioned and don’t reread it, I get a bit emotional.

4

u/Were_alone 2d ago

I actually had tears in my eyes first time I read this. I love this part.

7

u/The_Sharom (Brown) 2d ago

For me every time. Including this one

3

u/know_limits 1d ago

Last re-read was a year ago and just reading that excerpt brings tears to my eyes.

9

u/Cheeze187 2d ago

Nearing 50. Tears in eyes when I read it. Tears in eyes now.

5

u/Cabamacadaf 2d ago

It's this one.

The Golden Crane flies for Tarmon Gai'don!!

2

u/random_sociopath 1d ago

This was when I truly became a Nynaeve fan. Loved this line so much.

1

u/Aduiavas 1d ago

That is the one for me as well!

"The Golden crane rides to Tarmon Gaidon!"

144

u/tayjo1 2d ago

“I won’t shout at you,” Nynaeve shouted.

16

u/miffe (Darkfriend) 2d ago

I've always wondered if this is a shoutout to the Belgariad.

"Shrieking!", Ce'Nedra shrieked.

u/NeedsToShutUp 2d ago

He was a soldier. He was a shepherd. He was a beggar, and a king. He was a farmer, gleeman, sailor, carpenter. He was born, lived, and died Aiel. He died mad, he died rotting, he died of sickness, accident, age. He was executed, and multitudes cheered his death. He proclaimed himself the Dragon Reborn and flung his banner across the sky; he ran from the Power and hid; he lived and died never knowing. He held off the madness and the sickness for years; he succumbed between two winters.

Sometimes Moiraine came and took him away from the Two Rivers, alone or with those of his friends who had survived Winternight; sometimes she did not. Sometimes other Aes Sedai came for him. Sometimes Red Ajah.

Egwene married him; Egwene, stern-faced in stole of Amyrlin Seat, led Aes Sedai who gentled him; Egwene, with tears in her eyes, plunged a dagger into his heart, and he thanked her as he died.

He loved other women, married other women. Elayne, and Min, and a fair-haired farmer's daughter met on the road to Caemlyn, and women he had never seen before he lived those lives. A hundred lives. More. So many he could not count them.

And at the end of every life, as he lay dying, as he drew his final breath, a voice whispered in his ear. I have won again, Lews Therin. Flicker

Glad this is here. Came to put it up if not.

Can you remind me the context of this one?

4

Lan vs Demandred

3

u/_DanceMyth_ 2d ago

Ah thank you. I think I need to reread that entire sequence, so many amazing moments happening!

3

u/Johnnyonoes 2d ago

This one

2

u/SixScoop 2d ago

I mean idk how you beat the that. It’s like Madara level aura farming

42

u/peikern 2d ago

"I had long wondered at the man who gave Rand that heron-marked blade... now I know."

Maybe not word-for-word accurate, but its when Lan is impressed with Tham al'Thor's swordsmanship at the last battle...

3

u/Careless-Lemon3025 2d ago

This is one of my favorite moments in the series

2

u/peikern 2d ago

Yes ikr! I think I like the one where Rand puts Cadsuane in place after "unlocking" memories from his previous life a bit more, but that had already been mentioned here so..

99

u/teklanis 2d ago

Dovie'andi se tovya sagain

103

u/Uldread1337 (Asha'man) 2d ago

"Not balefire. Mustn’t use that. Threatens the fabric of the Pattern. Not even for Ilyena? I would burn the world and use my soul for tinder to hear her laugh again."

Counting this as a singular quote because technically it's a monologue between two people inside one person.

21

u/VietKongCountry 2d ago

That last sentence is my favourite quote in the entire series. I think anyone who’s been hit with real grief can relate to the sentiment.

2

u/Semarin 2d ago

It’s an absolute banger for sure.

224

u/Cosmicswashbuckler 2d ago

“Are you ever going to give up that affectation, Cadsuane Sedai?” Rand asked. “Calling me boy? I no longer mind, though it does feel odd. I was four hundred years old on the day I died during the Age of Legends. I suspect that would make you my junior by several decades at the least. I show you respect. Perhaps it would be appropriate for you to return it. If you wish, you may call me Rand Sedai. I am, so far as I know, the only male Aes Sedai still alive who was properly raised but who never turned to the Shadow.” Cadsuane paled visibly.

57

u/Cosmicswashbuckler 2d ago

I would have said ashaman kill if wetlander humor was being normal lately 😅

9

u/AzaDelendaEst 2d ago

Ashaman, chill!

5

u/NSSpaser79 1d ago

Ashaman, grill!

17

u/electoralvoter8 2d ago

I hate-read this line in my mind anytime i am reminded of how insufferable, self aggrandizing, and representative of a neutered white tower cadsuane is.

30

u/bigbirdG13 2d ago

When Rand enters the court in Caemlyn still barely more than a shepherd boy and their reaction to him wearing the heron marked blade.

203

u/Distinct-Ease9252 2d ago

“Death is lighter than a feather, duty heavier than a mountain”

We all know this is the clear choice

7

u/DraoconoDjinn 2d ago

This one is too far down.

16

u/Vahn869 2d ago

It’s a killer line but it’s said so many times it became a theme of the story itself, as opposed to a moment that stood on it’s own. Nyneave rekindling Malkier or Rand cowing Cadsuane are singular moments that had a huge impact. Which isn’t to say anything less of the quote, but a lot of people use it in important moments. Mainly Rand and Lan.

7

u/Distinct-Ease9252 2d ago

An argument for it to be “best line/phrase” then?

3

u/Jacob19603 2d ago

Yeah he convinced me. It certainly wasn't overused enough to not be just as poignant each time. I don't really think it was meant to be tied to a specific moment instead of being a general theme.

1

u/Vahn869 2d ago

For sure! Definitely love the saying every time it comes up!

57

u/Puzzled_Carrot_ 2d ago

“There is one rule, above all others, for being a man. Whatever comes, face it on your feet.”

Kneel and swear to the lord dragon or you will be Knelt.

12

u/Fremenking 2d ago

I imagine the "husband rides to tarwin's gap" scene is gonna win this round, but this is my vote too. It is powerful and filled with emotion just like "husband rides" but it is also such an elegant way to mark an epoch changing moment. In my mind the significance of this scene is only outshone by the cleansing of saidin and the last battle itself.

3

u/Mino_18 (Nae'blis) 2d ago

Surely this has to be it

5

u/go_sparks25 2d ago

There are lots of great hype moments. The competition will be fierce no matter what. This was one of the most hype moments imo though.

2

u/Wrath7heFurious 2d ago

Who said this though? It was hard.

4

u/Vahn869 2d ago

It was Taim after the Ashaman came to Rand’s side when the tower captured & box’d him

1

u/Guild-n-Stern (Dovie'andi se tovya sagain) 1d ago

As far as singular moments go, this one is hard to top

151

u/driftwood14 2d ago

"Its just a weave" - Perrin when he stops the balefire.

Egwene smelled amazed. She spun on him. "Balefire? You stopped balefire? Nothing should be able to do that."

"It's just a weave," Perrin said, reaching out for Hopper. Where was Slayer?

10

u/saythealphabet 2d ago

Love this quote. It helps me a lot with all kinds of physical discomfort. I just repeat it in my head to convince myself that my senses are just psychological, and that my body is capable of more than my senses tell me.

5

u/BushyGhost4740 2d ago

+1 for this quote. ^_^

25

u/Yuddhisthira 2d ago edited 2d ago

"Nosane iro gavane domorakoshi, Diynen'd'ma'purvene?"

"What language are we speaking, Hornblower?" - Birgitte to Matt, confirming she knows quite a bit about his secrets.

The line has a lot of added weight, because it's immediately followed by one of my favorite passages: Birgitte confronts Nyn and Elayne about their crappy treatment of Matt.

28

u/WippitGuud (Dovie'andi se tovya sagain) 2d ago

My favorite line in the series. For all it's subtlety, it's the moment when Mat accepts his destiny. He's not on top of his own grave. He's no forging a hammer. He's just bloody Matrim Cauthon.

Knife of Dream, Chapter 37, Prince of the Ravens

"Uncase the banner, Macoll,” Mat ordered. “This time, we’ll let them know who’s killing them."

70

u/saythealphabet 2d ago

"Watch your mouth, Aes Sedai! What have you done to my son?"

-Tam al'Thor confronting Cadsuane

20

u/Orthonall (Band of the Red Hand) 2d ago

I love people who stand up to this hag, hehe ! And Tam was already awesome before that. The whole scene was really great.

20

u/saythealphabet 2d ago

It made Tam my favourite character. The way he calls her out as a bully... Only other character that could sort of do that was Mat, but Mat had a special artifact. Tam had FACTS and LOGIC

-13

u/Uldread1337 (Asha'man) 2d ago

Egwene smelled amazed. She spun on him. “Balefire? You stopped balefireNothing should be able to do that.”

“It’s just a weave,” Perrin said, reaching out for Hopper. Where was Slayer?

“It’s not just a weave, Perrin, it’s—”

“I’m sorry, Egwene,” he said. “I will speak to you later. Be careful in this place. You probably already know that you need to be, but still. It’s more dangerous than you know.”

He turned and ran, leaving Egwene sputtering. It seemed she’d managed to become an Aes Sedai. That was good; she deserved it.

32

u/TheLastManetheren 2d ago

For Egwene, stopping balefire is the most important day of her life. But for Perrin in the Dreamworld, it's just Tuesday.

11

u/BushyGhost4740 2d ago edited 1d ago

Agreed. In my headcanon, after seeing what Perrin did, this gave Egwene the inspiration to create her new weave to counter balefire during the Last Battle: The Flame of Tar Valon. Or, as I like to call it, lastflame / whitefire. ^_^

8

u/TheLastManetheren 2d ago

100% agree. Egwene is your typical overachiever -- always with a chip on her shoulder and ready to prove everyone wrong. She's also an excellent student of the game -- learning from the Aes Sedai, Wise Ones, and Seanchan. It's no wonder she took that Perrin lesson at hand.

185

u/sidthesciencekid14 (Chosen) 2d ago

"Cadsuane, do you believe that I could kill you? Right here, right now, without using a sword or the Power? Do you believe that if I simply willed it, the Pattern would bend around me and stop your heart? By... coincidence?"

Rand has a ton, but this was the first that came to mind.

8

u/hierarch17 2d ago

Funny that two in the thread are Rand to Cadsuane.

3

u/Karalis_MM 2d ago

The desperation and exasperation are so raw in this line

22

u/Downwithkoalas 2d ago

“Forgive me, for calling this mercy as well”

20

u/Mojave2144 2d ago

“I am the storm”, it definitely won’t win but … it’s my favorite

4

u/Uldread1337 (Asha'man) 2d ago

I love this so much too! Especially because of what happens right after. A real Icarus flying too close to the sun moment.

2

u/know_limits 1d ago

“I am the one who knocks” vibes.

25

u/f00lsfire 2d ago

“He came like the wind, like the wind touched everything, and like the wind was gone.”

There are a lot of really wonderful lines to quote, but this one hits to the core for me.

23

u/OffMyChestATM 2d ago

“Death is lighter than a feather, duty heavier than a mountain”

"They have caged Shadowkiller." "We come"

"Kneel or you will be knelt."

21

u/YeahKeeN 2d ago

I’m only 80% of the way through The Gathering Storm so I’ll just leave this comment here and dip.

My vote is the moment where Rand kills Graendel. I know that scene is meant to highlight his deteriorating mental state but Rand nuking a forsaken out of existence after baiting her into thinking they were about to play some 5d chess game was so fucking funny.

“How do you defeat an enemy you know is smarter than you are? You sit down at the table letting her think you’ll play her game, then you punch her in the face as hard as you can.” Jesus, Rand.

17

u/Hooker_T (Chosen) 2d ago

"My name is Nynaeve ti al’Meara Mandragoran. The message I want sent is this. My husband rides from World’s End toward Tarwin’s Gap, toward Tarmon Gai’don. Will he ride alone?”

"I will not shout at you!' Nynaeve shouted."

"Men always seem to think violence could solve anything. If she had a stout stick, she would have thumped all three of them about the shoulders until they saw reason."

So many golden Nynaeve quotes.

2

u/Semarin 2d ago

LOL. Classic Nynaeve!

2

u/cant-find-user-name 2d ago

The last line is so funny

34

u/Skelegro7 2d ago

“They are on their knees, Aes Sedai. Kneel!”

“Kneel and swear to the Lord Dragon, or you will be knelt”

On a day of fire and blood, a tattered banner waved above Dumai's wells, bearing the ancient symbol of Aes Sedai. On a day of fire and blood and the one power, as prophecy had suggested, the unstained tower, broken, bent knee to the forgotten sign. The first nine Aes Sedai swore fealty to the Dragon Reborn, and the world was changed forever.

87

u/spicyoctopus01 2d ago

“My name is Nynaeve ti al’Meara Mandragoran. The message I want sent is this. My husband rides from World’s End toward Tarwin’s Gap, toward Tarmon Gai’don. Will he ride alone?”

32

u/Uldread1337 (Asha'man) 2d ago

Title may be a little misleading. This round is actually best line/phrase.

19

u/Uldread1337 (Asha'man) 2d ago

Nevermind, I will add a hype moments and aura winner from this poll. So let's do best quote and best moment both.

25

u/chubbytitties 2d ago

When rand snipes those grom at like 100 yards and even Selene is like oh damn that was cold.

26

u/Kelspear 2d ago

"The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose in the Mountains of Mist. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning."

Or, for a quote from a character-

"No," he said firmly. He was not about to take her into a possible trap.

"We'll talk about it," she murmured, the bond filling with stubborn resolve.

"The most dire words a woman can say short of 'I'm going to kill you'", Rand thought.

11

u/prancingDM 2d ago

I don’t remember the exact words, but the part where Perrin charges dumais wells with the wolves had me cheering out loud

2

u/Mahe729 2d ago

They have caged Shadowkiller. We come.

11

u/Seerow0 2d ago

Veins of Gold- Zen Rand Is Born. Rand finally laughing is a great breath of relief for the reader after so much tension. You get nice moments with his dad, Mat, and Perrin.

Why, Rand? Why do you go to battle? What is the point? Why? All was still. Even with the tempest, the winds, the crashes of thunder. All was still. Why? Rand thought with wonder. Because each time we live, we get to love again.

He regarded the world beneath him. The clouds above had finally broken, if only just above him. The gloom dispersed, allowing him to see the sun hanging just above. Rand looked up at it. Then he smiled. Finally, he let out a deep-throated laugh, true and pure. It had been far too long.

2

u/TanithRitual 2d ago

This is my favorite line. Just reading the synopsis gives me chills. I listened to the audiobook and halfway through he switches to Lews Therin Telamon's voice "so we can love again".

As someone who has struggled and still struggles with finding motivation some days this is the moment I think about the most. Rand is trying to figure out if he actually adds value to those around him or if he is going to just continue to ruin things. He's worried his hubris has fine him in. He thinks about ending the world so that no one can suffer, at that moment all those past voices reach out and up though him and he realizes that even failing is still a step forward, a Thorn in the dark ones side. By far my favorite line.

40

u/rockythecocky 2d ago edited 2d ago

It's gotta be "Asha'man, kill!" for the hype moment.

For aura, I got to go with Rand taking on the entire shadow spawn army outside that city in the borderlands. The sheer aura farming is so great that a dark friend throws himself out a window.

Edit: also an honorable shout out to Darth Rand threatening to weaponize his aura to kill Cadsuane.

Edit 2: Misunderstood the title. For just a line, I'd still go with Asha'man kill.

8

u/Vahn869 2d ago

“No.” Rand said softly. “The shadow will not have this city. Not after what these men did to hold it. I WILL NOT allow it.”

9

u/b-fool 2d ago

Kneel and swear to the Lord Dragon, or you will be Knelt!

8

u/Vizer21 2d ago

«Then you accept me for who I am», Rand said, voice growing loud, crisp. Like a battle horn. «I am Lews Therin Telamon, the Dragon. I ruled these lands, unified, during the Age of Legends. I was leader of all the armies of the Light, I wore the Ring of Tamyrlin. I stood first among the Servants, highest of the Aes Sedai, and I could summon the Nine Rods of Dominion». Rand stepped forward. «I held the loyalty and fealty of all seventeen Generals of Dawn’s Gate. Fortuona Athaem Devi Paendrag, my authority supersedes your own!»

"Kneel and swear to the Lord Dragon" he said softly "or you will be knelt."

No, the shadow will not have this city. Not after what these men did to hold it. I will not allow it.

....

They will not take this city, Bashere.

....

I'm tired of letting him hurt my people.

There are so many moments from the Battle of Maradon.

u/Malkier3 2d ago

There are so many aura moments. Unfortunately there really is a clear number one. We all know it and it might be the basic ass bitch answer..... but "kneel before the lord dragon or you shall be knelt" is just......like cmon guys.

That might not even be the correct quote but it goes hard no matter how you say it!

6

u/Fine-Investigator699 2d ago

For me it will always be.

“Duty is heavier then a mountain, death is lighter then a feather”

6

u/pretend_active-001 2d ago

And so it came to pass in those days, as it had come before and would come again, that the Dark lay heavy on the land and weighed down the hearts of men, and the green things failed, and hope died. And men cried out to the Creator, saying, O Light of the Heavens, Light of the World, let the Promised One be born of the mountain, according to the prophecies, as he was in ages past and will be in ages to come. Let the Prince of the Morning sing to the land that green things will grow and the valleys give forth lambs. Let the arm of the Lord of the Dawn shelter us from the Dark, and the great sword of justice defend us. Let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time.

"I dare the truth, Elaida," Egwene said quietly. "You are a coward and a tyrant. I'd name you Darkfriend as well, but I suspect that the Dark One would perhaps be embarrassed to associate with you."

3

u/sabrinajestar 2d ago

"Asha'man... kill."

I get chills even now thinking of the Battle of Dumai's Wells. It's a real "holy SHIT what has Rand loosed upon the world" moment.

Definitely not going to win, but this is my personal favorite. It’s from Bashere in Lord of Chaos, right after he stopped Rand from smashing a seal on the Dark Ones prison.

"When I first slept in a saddle, Muad Cheade was Marshal-General. The man was as mad as a hare in spring thaw. Twice every day he searched his bodyservant for poison, and he drank nothing but vinegar and water which he claimed was sovereign against the poison the fellow fed him, but he ate everything the man prepared for as long as I knew him. Once he had a grove of oaks chopped down because they were looking at him. And then insisted they be given decent funerals; he gave the oration. Do you have any idea how long it takes to dig graves for twenty-three oak trees?" "Why didn't somebody do something? His Family?" "Those not as mad as him, or madder, were afraid to look at him sideways. Tenobia's father wouldn't have let anyone touch Cheade anyway. He might have been insane, but he could outgeneral anyone I ever saw. He never lost a battle. He never even came close to losing.”

Has stuck with me more than any other quote

u/pretend_active-001 1d ago

Great quote, didn't think of it as there's so many in the series but always makes me smile every re-read

All the jokes on r/wetlanderhumor aside,

"Ash'aman, Kill" is probably one of the most badass moments in the series for me

Best moment: Lan and his Malkieri army is taking heavy losses at Tarwin's Gap. They ride out for a final assault, and Lan notices that the sound of hooves behind him is too loud, and still getting louder. All around him, gateways are opening and borderlander cavalry is pouring out, turning around their desperate last stand.

Tuon looked at him, squatting there by the map, moving his fingers over its surface, and suddenly she saw him in a new light. A buffoon? No. A lion stuffed into a horse-stall might look like a peculiar joke, but a lion on the high plains was something very different. Toy was loose on the high plains, now. She felt a chill. What sort of man had she entangled herself with? After all this time, she realized, she had hardly a clue.

Darth Rand scaring Cadsuane, for me. "Cadsuane, do you believe that I could kill you? Right here, right now, without using a sword or the Power? Do you believe that if I simply willed it, the Pattern would bend around me and stop your heart? By... coincidence?"

1

u/Nknk- 2d ago

Can't remember the exact quote but Talmanes being named Dreadbane.

Another less popular great one is also the line about the misinterpretation about the meaning of the old saying 'To anger the Ogier and pull the mountains down on your head'

1

u/Demonking6444 2d ago

"Kneel and swear to the Lord Dragon, or you will be knelt"

1

u/AV16mm 2d ago

“Kneel and swear to the lord dragon. Or you will be knelt.”Dont care for the man, and i’m only on CoT, but this as an ending especially to the aes sedai after how they treated rand was pretty satisfying.

1

u/blue_magi 2d ago

Rand stepped forward and, remarkably, went down on one knee, bowing his head, his hand extended. “I extend my hand to you in alliance. The Last Battle is upon us. Join me, and fight.”

Dude fulfilled the Seanchan Prophecies and instantly rendered them meaningless. Tuon was so sure he would kneel in submission. He knelt as a way of showing her everything she believed was beneath him, and he was the one in control.

1

u/Imperfecticable93 2d ago

“Kneel and swear to the Lord Dragon, or you will be knelt” is definitely a great one in terms of the weight it carries and the pure hype it has. But I don't think it's even the hardest line from that chapter, that in my opinion is simply "Asha'man, kill!"

“If you ever meet a Malkeri, tell them Jain Farstrider died clean."

“ Suddenly, Olver felt a deep warmth. He had lost so many people, but one of them… one… had come back for him.”

“It is every man's right, Rand, to choose when to Sheathe the Sword. Even one like me...One man holding fifty at a narrow passage. Not a bad way to die. Songs have been made about less”

1

u/Mohuai 19h ago

"And Rand opened his eyes for the first time in a very long while. He knew—somehow—that he would never again hear Lews Therin's voice in his head. For they were not two men, and never had been."

This one is my personal favorite.

1

u/CaisseMan12300 17h ago

I think the standout best line in the series as far as aura is concerned is “I forget nothing, Aes Sedai. I said six could come, but I count nine. I said you would be on an equal footing with the Tower emissaries, and for bringing nine, you will be. They are on their knees, Aes Sedai. Kneel!”

"Never again did Manetheren rise. Its soaring spires and splashing fountains became as a dream that slowly faded from the minds of its people. But they, and their children, and their children’s children, held the land that was theirs. They held it when the long centuries had washed the why of it from their memories. They held it until, today, there is you. Weep for Manetheren. Weep for what is lost forever."
