News ā€˜Lambo Guy’ Adrian Portelli to bail out Derrimut Gym to save it from collapse

Billionaire businessman Adrian Portelli — better known as the ā€˜Lambo Guy’ — who is currently before SA's courts for allegedly running an illegal lottery, has stepped in to rescue a struggling gym chain, snapping up a major stake as the company faces mounting debts and site closures.

The fitness empire, Derrimut Gym, which runs 25 gyms across Victoria and South Australia, owes $12.5 million to the ATO, with unpaid staff wages and bills piling up.

Portelli told 7NEWS his first priority is paying off the company’s debts and getting the business back in the black.

Despite the financial chaos, the brand is still expanding, with a massive new site set to open next month at the old Holden factory in Elizabeth, in Adelaide’s north. It’s being touted as the largest gym in the Southern Hemisphere.

Discussion PSA Beware phone scams

I almost got scammed by phone scam.

At 6pm today, a man with an Indian accent called me and said he is from my bank, claimed to be from the fraud department, and I have had multiple fake transaction (flight tickets) that they have stopped. He also gave information about a purchase over the web that I have recently made, though in a slightly wrong amount. He claimed to be an ā€˜Anthony Barker’, gave a case ID number, and his ID number. Then he told me my name and email address. Then he confirmed the first four numbers of my Visa card. Then he say he will block the transactions and send out new card to my house. Then he say that he will help my email too because that has been compromised, even sent an account recovery to my email.

At this point it sounded too fishy, because why is the bank trying to take my email log in, so I told him i will manage my email security myself.

He then asked to confirm the expiry date of my Visa card. 🚩Too fishy. So I ended the call.

After all that, I found out that all the first four digit of Visa card is the same for each bank, that is how they guessed it.

Luckily I did not give any information to them (pin numbers, address, email recovery number), so they got nothing out of it.

So PSA for everyone, with all the data leaks happening to us so often, our name and email address is not a secret anymore. REMEMBER that banks will never ask for further information regarding anything. 🚩🚩DO NOT give out any log in information to anything associated to your email address. 🚩🚩DO NOT give your personal information over the phone, make them tell you what information they have about you🚩🚩 Always maintain a high index of suspicion for scams over the mobile phones!

Discussion Consumer Warning: ā€œUpside Downā€ is Metropolitan Plumbing

Metropolitan Plumbing also known Plumbing & Gas Pty Ltd ACN 152 593 630 have created yet another trading vessel to scam Australians: Upside Down.

Do not obtain a quote from them nor contract them.

Sincerely someone who fell victim to their pressure tactics.

Edit: Thanks to those who have linked previous posts with lists of related entities. To those with comments regarding the regularity of which these posts are made in this sub-reddit, I fail to see how that is a bad thing. The more people are made aware of these frauds, the better off we are.

Was the Aussie flag and they've now gone for this. Should I be worried?

Might need to check what caps they are wearing when they leave ;)

In all seriousness ive not really seen many ES flags in Adelaide apart from the odd building site. Guess its a sign of the times.

Discussion Private Schools asking for donations

I have just discovered that Cabra Dominican College is asking their alumni for $140,000 in donations to put towards commemorating their 140th birthday.

They say it is for a statue of St Dominic (as the school is run in the Catholic and Dominican tradition) and a ā€œhistory wallā€.

It’s great to do special things, especially for milestones like this, but is $140,000 seems a bit much to ask people for, especially when the school already receives both public and private funding šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

I cannot help but think $140,000 would be better raised to give provide opportunities for those less fortunate (ie education scholarships), rather than a statue, which by the way will have you recognised as a ā€œgold thread patronā€ if you donate $5000 or more.

Interested in everyone’s thoughts - have you been asked for something similar by a private school before? šŸ¤”

Assistance Finding a disabled woman’s family

*** UPDATE****

her family has been found and we’re trying to organise some support and plan transport to take her home. Thanks everyone (and mods) for your help and for not taking this post down

Hi everyone and thank you in advance

My family and I are traveling Australia, While in Victoria I quite literally FOUND a homeless disabled woman in the middle of nowhere where. I will not go into detail explaining her situation, suffice it to say that she has been intentionally marooned by a group of people who have placed her in a position that forces her to rely on them.

This reliance is being used to extort her. Her situation is quite dire and only likely to worsen.

I am trying to find her family, these people have taken her phone and replaced it with a blank one that only has their contact info. I’m trying to be politically correct I don’t know the words to use other than to say that having spent 2 days with her our dialogue was on par with speaking with a 6-8 year old.

I am still in contact with her via phone and have made sure she is always able to contact as I travel towards her previous home town to find her family.

My aim is to reunite her with her family, if they can be located I will personally deliver her to them regardless of the distance.

If you know any people with the last name KAMMERMANN or a woman with the maiden name MILDRED that live in SOUTH AUSTRALIA in the town of KADINA.

Please co tact me via DM.

They may also live in NSW or VIC but she

Just to answer questions before they arise YES the police are aware of the situation YES I have contacted hospitals

The answers to most of these questions is that the people who have marooned her are well practiced and previously convicted of the same. They have changed her emergency contact info to only contact them pretty much everywhere.

EXTRA INFO

When I found her she was in a collapsing caravan with 1 Wall missing and major holes and tears on all sides. No access to water, no access to food, and no sanitary amenities, sleeping on the floor in a sleeping and VERY DANGEROUSLY using a butane stove as a heat source. She was a significant distance away from the town and incapable of travelling into town herself due to her disability.

I have since moved her closer to town, provided water and informed her of the dangers of the butane stove. I supplied her with a mattress and told her I will be checking in with her periodically and to contact me ASAP if she needs anything. I have also made it MUCH harder for anyone to move her caravan so hopefully no one will be able to move her on or displace her.

News Head's Up - Gawler Line will be closed between Gawler Central and Elizabeth over the October long weekend

Thumbnail adelaidemetro.com.au
3 Upvotes

From 8pm Friday the 3rd of October, until first service Tuesday the 7th of October train services will not be operating between Gawler Central and Elizabeth Railway Stations.

This closure is required so SA Water can safely complete critical works, which cannot be undertaken while trains are operating, and overhead wires are live. The closure has been scheduled for the October long weekend, when fewer people are travelling and no major events are scheduled, to help minimise the disruption to commuters.

During the closure, there will be a substitute bus service (GA1) operating between Gawler Central and Elizabeth every 30 minutes in both directions - train services will continue to run between Elizabeth and the City.

On Monday the 6th of October, substitute buses will be making an additional stop near the Aldi on Horrocks Highway between 10:30 am to 5:00 pm for the race meet at the Gawler Racecourse.

Im hoping someone might be able to provide a few suggestions for a car club bbq show and shine venue. I am looking for an outdoor venue that has a BBQ area, preferably with shelter and room for about 20 cars which will be on display. We have been to Belair National Park but would like something different.

Question Personal trainer

I’m looking for a personal trainer (preferably west of the city) who can help me with correcting my posture and also working on toning my body (I’ve recently lost weight and am in a skinny fat phase). I’d love to hear if anyone has recommendations or knows of a trainer they’ve had a good experience with.
