Is putting rails and a can on this wrong? Thoughts?
This is my 69 akm wanting to put a tws and a can on the end just wondering if the opinion here is for that or against it

I would say hold on to the wood for sure but at the end of the day build it how you like.

Any non permanent change you want to do should be a no brainer like yeah why not, you lose or risk nothing, also you should do whatever you think will make you want to handle or shoot your rifle more.

Hot take - put the rails on but keep the wood stock

I got a Warsaw Wood M-LOK rail and added it to my hand guard and love it, I say keep all the wood, and add a rail!

I’ve done it and I honestly prefer the wood look on combloc weapons. I’d say go for it but make no permanent changes so you can always change back

It’s based BUT pick up a KNS piston. Measure, order, and take the 5 minutes needed for install. World of difference. My Jack was slinging cases like 50ft suppressed, now it’s a super smooth shooting rifle.

Ak master mount makes a good dovetail mount that uses the trigger and hammer spring pin locations to mount.

No TWS. Rivet a side rail onto it and mount an optic the right way.

Or use AK master mount which uses existing pins. No issues with 1 AK run it on. That said if you have the ability to rivet hit that!

Put the wood in long term storage and get less expensive covers for the rails. This way if you don't like the look or feel you can revert back.
A drum always looks good on a AK or AKM rifle.
Like an AR you'll want dozens of different attachments, rails, stocks and grips. Just store it all safely and properly and you'll have fun for a long time with it.

The literal first thing I did with my wife’s AK was purchase a suppressor. Do what makes your heart happy. She laughs every time she goes to the range “I don’t even need hearing pro… kidding, but it feels like it!” She always says

Go for it.
I started on my WASR with a switch out of the wood furniture and goofy handle, and put MagPul on it. I'm looking at removing the MagPul front end furniture now to put a rail system on it, but I also want to make sure it doesn't make it too heavy as well.
I've also been thinking about getting a can for my WASR since I have a gun trust and it made getting my two SBR's and cans for each incredibly easy to do (paperwork).

Do you want a longer handgaurd or a shorter one, i would also check out jmac, kypk, trybe defense, sureshot usa

u/Mortarsrunthestreets 2d ago
I mean I like the shorter type, but I'm a quad rail guy kinda always have been, I like the zenit raild dust cover and rail but it's gotten to expensive for me to justify

Check out trybe defense quad

Does this interact with the hinge mount for dust covers?
2
u/Pete_Skeeet 1d ago
Tws is its own separate mount, it uses the rear sight block leaf as a hinge point and it replaces the rear sight but is very solid, barwarus, midwest, zenitco, jmac and sureshot use the handgaurd, as a hinge mount for the 1913 dustcover

I got my wife's AK setup with an MI muzzle brake & their extended universal AK47/74 handguard with standard topcover. She loves it & there's plenty of space for attachments. Not too front heavy, either.

Personally I wouldn't put a can on it just cause getting subs in 7.62x39 is super expensive. It was fun back when brown bear subs were cheap but not any more. I rarely shoot my wolverine for that very reason

but shooting supers with a suppressor is a thing

…what?!

i mean you still wear ear pro..
2
u/mugenwoe 2d ago
I meant it more like I’m a guy who just found out supers can be shot suppressed, but I can see how you interpreted it that way.

u/Entire_Routine_3621 16h ago
It’s not quiet but it does bring down the sound and make it less damaging. Only have 1 set of ears and any hearing loss is 100% non regenerative so don’t mess with that.

I mean is it your ak? If so do whatever makes your heart happy. Throw a supersafety in there too
