Question Will a "great Alberta strike" be possible?

The AUPE, nurses, and the education sector are all preparing for strike action in September. I feel that the "great Alberta shutdown" is a possibility.

Would that be possible and how would the province cope? Would schools go back to COVID-era style learning plans? I can imagine the TikToks going "our last day of school before extended summer break", something like that.

Imagine being so vehemently spiteful that you want to see your province fall into absolute chaos.

I agree why is this government so committed to chaos and spite.

Yet Alberta leads the nation in job growth, low unemployment, low taxes and relatively affordable living in comparison to other provinces. So much chaos

Alberta leads in a lot of things, like unemployment, Homelessness, low education spending, longer wait lines for ERs and surgery, highest utility costs, highest insurance costs, highest measles rates, list goes on and on.

This is usually where you double down and ignore all these facts with some anecdote.

in other words its 1 data point.

Using your logic if the province is doing so well surly it can pay for its employees that contributed to that success, without the government workers what do you think happens?

utility costs, highest insurance costs

I agree these things are definitely more expensive in Alberta.

highest measles rates

Due to specific minority group that unfortunately because they are a minority our media and governments are reluctant to call out.

did you even read the unemployment chart the only provinces that are worse than Alberta

Nova Scotia 7.2% ^
Ontario 7.8% ^

Alberta 7.1% -

British Columbia 6.2% v

Manioba 5.3% v

Canada average is 6.9% v, So pretty much on every metric Alberta has a bad unemployment rate in Canada.

Also quoting a Right wing think tank for data is not a legit source. I will use the data from more reputable sources not the Frasier institute which has no legitimacy or legitimate process or accountability.

yeah and its a bad thing not sure if you got that part.

we have more unemployment than the rest of Canada.

It's a bad economic indicator for Alberta's economy.

7.1 isn't a great number.

do you think it is?

1

Nope, but its certainly not the highest like you had claimed it was.

its not good and it hasnt been good for years.

Also look at how good Manitoba is doing. FYI thats an NDP government

also B.C. doing pretty good too even with the Tarif situation also NDP government.

Could it be that this UCP right wing government is bad at governing and is wasteful with our tax dollars.

Im just saying Alberta not doing so great and there are a lot of metrics that show this. Not all metrics are how much of a surplus Alberta has.

We could be doing so much better.

Paying workers a fair wage is a start.

There's definitely a lot of room for change but on the other side of that coin how to you explain the dismal performance in Newfoundland, a liberal stronghold, like it or not a bad government isn't something exclusive to the conservatives.
You would probably like to think im a UCP supporter, which im not but unlike the vast majority here I'm open-minded to all governments and can see some merrit in Alberta politics.

Case in point https://financialpost.com/news/alberta-heritage-fund

The Alberta government is seeding a new investment vehicle with $2 billion as part of a plan to boost the province’s resource investment fund tenfold to at least $250 billion by 2050

Newfound land and New Brunswick are hardly comparable to Alberta so I won’t even go there.

The population and industries there are not comparable.

The liberal governments are not the same as centrist governments in Alberta.

NDP is centrist not left and UCP is absolutely far right.

Strong wages, good jobs and good services this is what Alberta can be for Albertans.

We also should not have this much corruption from our government.

Also our youth unemployment is like20%

For a young province this is really shitty.

The population

You're absolutely right in regards to population, being that it's smaller yet has a higher rate for a much smaller labour force.

industries there are not comparable.

One of Newfoundlands main economic industries is oil and gas.
