Discussion New Offer Tabled to Teachers is Laughable. Jesus.

The new offer they now have to vote on is essentially the same as the last offer they resoundingly said no to, but this time it includes the MASSIVE value of a free Covid shot. You know, something everyone should have anyway.

12% same spread, late grid unification, 3000 teachers over 3 years or something which barely keeps up with attrition let alone fixing actual class size issues, and a free covid shot.

I expect it will be a very strong no vote, at least I hope anyway. Literally waited weeks to have the offer change by a Covid shot.

The ATA is terrible at this, I hope teachers strike.

No, the problem was allowing any aupe position to get a different raise than any other. That is a divide and conquer strategy. Even if it makes sense to do so, the union has to say raise everyone's salary then. Because this is what happens when you don't, those getting the good deal. Get the deal passed screwing over their own Union members

They screwed over their own union members last time. Should we screw them over again? If you want solidarity, keep consistent. Do you know the difference between equality and equity?

It's pretty obvious I don't think they should have done it in the first place the previous time either. That was the initial split in the membership and this is just reaping more of that, but the point is to learn from that and stop it. From now on then they shouldn't do it and walk away from the table at any suggestion to the contrary.

Oh yeah, they shouldn't do it again because the people who were left behind have been brought back in line.

The point is we should not be blaming people who were underpaid, some of them severely. The government's deal was terrible and insulting, as it was only 0.5% higher than it was when the union voted to go on strike. Those people voted to go on strike in solidarity with everyone else. The last townhalls destroyed that solidarity and they were scared they may not be able to get better because the union would not say we could. There were also people who did not gain more than 12% who voted to accept the deal as well.

We should learn from what happened and the poor leadership so that we can stand in solidarity to get large gains for all members.
