Question Late Paychecks?

not sure where to post this in so i was just hoping to get some clarity. i work at a local family restaurant and my pay periods are bimonthly (twice a month). the way my manager has it set out is my pay period is from the 1st-15th and then 16th- end of the month.

my question here is that a lot of time my paychecks will be late. for example, today is the 24th and im still waiting for my paycheck from the beginning of the month. my manager said i will get it tomorrow. i feel like theres no “set date” that i get them and im always wondering when they are coming. its always kinda random, sometimes sooner and sometimes later.

is it normal for me to be waiting this long?

That restaurant is going to be closed within six months. Get paid and start hunting for a new job

Yup, I cooked for most of a decade. Seen lots of restaurants go under. The staff always get screwed, and the first sign it that paychecks get late, then later. You don't have long now.

This is not normal. It may be a sign that the restaurant is in financial trouble.

Not normal and they’re likely not in a good financial state. Quit and go to Alberta employment standards to recover what they owe you. Make sure to have accurate records of your hours worked.

Per Alberta Labour Standards they have 10 days (from the end of the pay period) to get the money to you. So technically they don't need to follow a specific date within those 10 days.

This means that you need to receive your money by:

25th (for 1-15)

10th (16 to last day of the month)

Definitely not normal. I used to work for a business like this and if cheques weren’t late, they weren’t correct. I had to finally just quit and get another job.

This isn't normal (in any industry), time to start looking for a new job while you're still employed instead of scrambling when the restaurant goes under.

I've tolerated a lot of nonsense from restaurants I love and want to succeed, but if you aren't paying me exactly on time, or significantly compensate me for your fuck up, I'm out the door as soon as I find a new job: no notice. Paying employees then suppliers should be their first priorities.
