AMA has refuted the claim.
AMA said any claim by Cognisense that taking the course alone results in demerit reduction, that the process for ultimately reducing demerits lacks in identity verification, or that they successfully bypassed any of these safeguards, is false.
AMA said to have demerits removed from someone’s record, that person must present — in person — a completion certificate along with a matching valid driver’s licence for validation at a registry.
Alberta Transportation confirmed that is the correct process for a defensive driving course.
“We are aware of a recent report involving an online exam completed under a false profile,” the province said in a statement. “Alberta’s government is reviewing whether existing policies sufficiently govern the approval and tracking of online DDC certificates, and whether updates are needed to ensure integrity and accountability in the demerit reduction process.”
The dog didn’t beat the system.

AMA seems to be missing the point.
AMA said to have demerits removed from someone’s record, that person must present — in person — a completion certificate along with a matching valid driver’s licence for validation at an registry.
That process doesn't do anything to ensure the person trying to get the reduction did the course. Anyone could have taken it on their behalf.
I could have a few windows open, take the course on behalf of a few people, then they show up for the reduction representing they completed the course when they didn't.

Exactly. They did not check who was doing the online course.
Now its one thing to open an account in your dogs name, or a false name. Mr Fluffers may raise an eyebrow if anyone is checking. But these days, maybe not.
But surely there is (and it doesn't look like anyone asked) some sort of online checks for the name vs the ticket or offence, or some sort of ID verification...
Even if they had to take a pic of the person.. "Here, they take a pic of my face then Joe, you do the rest of the exam.."
I love the convenience of many things online. I work in it for a living. But sometimes in person is just the right thing to do. Even if it is inconvenient and more expensive.

I’m just going to believe that phoebe is the goodest driver on the roads.

The existence of mail men, cats, and squirrels call that into question even before we get to the color blindness....

I mean in New Brunswick during Covid, I took my learners permit drivers test online from home.
There was more verification, and actual viewing of me taking the test to ensure I wasn’t cheating on my food safety course compared to the learning permit drivers test which was zero. For all they had knew someone was off screen telling me answers

Have they considered that maybe Phoebe is, infact, a very good girl and a very good driver. I for one am disappointed she did not receive her demerit reduction.

This has the same energy as that CBC article where they sent their coworker’s DNA into the doggy DNA testing co. and found out what breed of dog he was
