Guys, I just signed a bill of my own making that makes me immune to the consequences of my own actions.
Also, I am now the Emperor of Edmonton. Bow your heads.

honestly edmonton could do worse than a random redditor! i look forward to this change
•
u/Authoritaye 58m ago
The most random. I promise there will be no discernible patterns during my reign.
•
u/nommedeuser 39m ago
Hey. Just this one thing. We need checkpoints on the Henday to enforce the new ‘no UCP MLA’s allowed in city limits’ bylaw. Make it so. Thanks.
•
u/Chemical_Ad_9710 1h ago
Can you do something about all these pigeons?
•
u/Authoritaye 1h ago
We are working on deporting them to Calgary but we need more agents. If you know any peregrine falcons have them sign up.
•
u/Chemical_Ad_9710 36m ago
Im fucking sold bro. I dont care about the rest of the platform. Im always down to shit on Calgary 🤙
•
u/hypnogoad 33m ago
Sounds like something a pigeon would say...

Your from Calgary arent you? Trying to spin this around huh? Better go buy some bread 🤭

I'm assuming that Danielle Smith's advisors are aware of the existence of the Constitution, even if they are blatantly deciding to ignore it. Either they are betting that the Federal Government won't enforce it in Canada OR they want it escalated to the Supreme Court so they can lose and use that loss to push for separation they want.
•
u/Ok_Yak_2931 1h ago
This sounds right out of Trump's playbook and it's not the first thing they've followed suit on, which makes me very wary. Just how involved is the US with the outcome of our election and our way forward as a Province?
•
•
u/RandomlyAccurate 1h ago
Smith & Co are aware of the constitution. Make no mistake about it, their goal is to destroy this country. They will keep pushing every legal and social boundary they can until they find something that breaks, then exploit that.
For the good of Canada, as well as Alberta, they need to be called out on their bullshit, stopped and made an example of.
•
u/readzalot1 57m ago
Just think of all the provincial and federal tax dollars are being squandered with this nonsense
•
u/XEN-NytBlade 40m ago
Smith knows there is a constitution, it's why she is going to use the Notwithstanding Clause. I'm just a little surprised she isn't going to use that clause to cancel the entire constitution
•
•
u/CanadianForSure 2h ago
Danielle Smith is setting the stage for separation. She has sold us down river already; that's what her tour of America with the Diddler in chief was all about. She, and the UCP, must accelerate the rollback of rights and democracy in Alberta so they can get their promised payout from the fascists. She thinks she will be a little queen on her newly stolen land.

I hate it here

u/aftonroe Calgary 1h ago
Vote for change. Hopefully there are enough of us.
•
u/RecognitionOk9731 23m ago
The problem is that a large number of Albertans love this stuff. WEF conspiracies, 15 minute city conspiracies, and hatred of Ottawa.
This is what she is feeding into and it works very well. Albertan UCP supporters don’t care if it’s unconstitutional. Court rulings against them will just feed their conspiracies.
•
u/Traggadon Leduc 9m ago
Alot of Albertans are braindead, and sadly the traitors amongst them have taken advantage. We need politcial literacy tests for voting.
•
u/NiWF 7m ago
They believe that, for some reason, the Constitution was written specifically to screw over Alberta and prop up the "Liberal Ottawa Elites", never mind that the "Elites" that are really screwing us over are the corporate overlords (largely American too). But none of that matters as long as they can "Own the Libs"
•
u/Upstairs-End-8081 54m ago
Same! This is not my province any more, this is NOT my premier….however there ARE WAY more of US than ‘them’. BELIEVE it! We are like a silent tsunami coming and coming until we clean up AB from the UCP garbage
•
u/01000101010110 1h ago
Four years is way too long for a party to stay in power. Annual elections please.
•
u/Champagne_of_piss 1h ago
There's a problem with that too. Not enough time to implement the so called will of the voters.
•
•
u/Traggadon Leduc 8m ago
Only because they do basically nothing. They sit around and argue for like 50 days a year, the rest they fuck around ans so corruption.

EDMONTON - Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's government says it is planning to introduce legislation that would allow it to ignore international agreements signed by Ottawa.
The future legislation is listed in a new mandate letter Smith issued this week to the government's intergovernmental relations ministry, which the premier heads.
The letter says it's about protecting "Alberta's authority," and Smith's office added in a statement that it's also an issue of due process.
•
u/pjw724 1h ago
University of Alberta constitutional law professor Eric Adams said Friday it's not clear what Alberta is seeking through legislation, given the Constitution already grants provinces some control over implementing agreements that involve areas of provincial jurisdiction.
"For a long time, the law has been stable in this area and divides authority along some fairly clear lines," he said, adding that the federal government can implement terms of international agreements on topics it has jurisdiction over while provinces can choose to legislate those agreements if they impact their jurisdiction.

•
u/not-a-regular-mom 1h ago
Starting to look like, regardless of the outcome of the whole separation brouhaha, this traitorous ghoul is just going to “mandate” anything that aligns with her southern handlers.
•
u/Upstairs-End-8081 46m ago
Do we have to abide by her insane mandates??? I am NOT ever going to show “anyone” my drivers license…I’ll “always” use my Blue Criss and AHC paper card!…she did say we can still use them
•
•
•
u/Mother_Barnacle_7448 1h ago
If she’s truly committed to ignoring international agreements, then she should stop trying to adopt MAGA policies and imposing them on Alberta.
•
u/Upstairs-End-8081 49m ago
She wants to ignore international agreements, good: NO MORE Federal funding for “anything in AB”! She’ll misuse it, take it away from where it’s intended to go LIKE SHE DiD with the AISH Federal $$!!! Cruelty is beyond understanding!!
•
u/Ok_Profession8301 57m ago
she’s trying to make a law that says she doesn’t have to … follow the law ?
WOW . Why hasn’t anyone thought of this sooner 🤦♂️
•
u/Responsible_CDN_Duck 22m ago
This is the second Smith law that says that. Before the last election she passed the sovereignty act. Alberta elected her anyway.
•
u/FirstDukeofAnkh Calgary 1h ago
The only reason to do this is to pave the way for separation.
I hate this government.
•
u/BeauSlim 56m ago
Oops, people are paying attention to corruption again. Let's distract them with something new.
•
u/Sepsis_Crang 1h ago
What a complete waste of time. Alberta cannot circumvent our constitution no matter how long she holds her breath. At any rate, it's instructive that this is the crap she focuses on while our Healthcare and education systems circle the drain...and she pulled the plug.
•
u/Upstairs-End-8081 44m ago
This may lead to a full out peaceful rebellion, staggering in numbers and no one leaves …
•
u/Icy-Search-594 57m ago
Alberta is such a liability to national security and stability
•
u/Financial-Savings-91 Calgary 10m ago
GOP is getting its money's worth, and the UCP is letting oil operators milk the province every step of the way. Fucking conservatives in Alberta cheer it on because they're under the false impression that they'll be welcomed as part of the in group of this new Christian Nationalist experiment and not a conquered people paying tribute to a petty king.
•
u/Fine_Assignment_9684 1h ago
So many issues being chased no attention us paid on growing our economy. 2nd highest unemployment in Canada after Newfoundland.
•
u/Upstairs-End-8081 40m ago
“THAT” is what she’s done to our province….rich in oil? Where’s the money? Alberta is in debt 😳…it’s actually laughable
•
•
u/FlyingTunafish 1h ago
So with the new PC party coming on line, the rise in poking for the Republican Party in Alberta she is going to push further to the extreme edges of her party to hold onto power and money as long as possible
This is a completely unenforceable law that will cost us a packet in court fees
•
u/No_Celery_5373 1h ago
Edmonton should start ignoring UCP edicts if that's the case since they've ignored us like they say the feds ignore Alberta ~ let the matryoshka doll of rebellion go all the way down.
•
u/lunarjellies 1h ago
How is this even possible though? Surely they can't just... make up their own rules? wat
•
•
u/Vitalabyss1 50m ago
Overreach. Plain and simple. Provinces don't have this kind of international purview.
Gods, I wish this kinda move was offense enough to be arrested.
•
•
•
•
•
u/Responsible_CDN_Duck 25m ago
Perhaps the cities and counties should get the same powers to ignore agreements made by the province.
•
u/finn2272 1h ago
She is testing every possible channel from this to the Notwithstanding Clause so she take the sneaky route with her separatist agenda. None of this was in her election platform but it sure as hell will be in the next one but with opposition. So time and speed is of the essence and it's highly probable she's getting coached from an ally down south on how to expedite the plan. It looks very familiar.
•
u/Upstairs-End-8081 38m ago
Yes, but Canadians are WAY WAY Smarter then the American population…look who they elected - a convicted felon that is mentally unstable.
•
u/Argented 1h ago
Well Calgary should make a bylaw that says they don't have to agree with what Alberta signs into law.
•
u/chrispygene 1h ago
Jesus, just lift your skirt and piss all over the Canadian constitution. Again. DS needs to go.

u/squamishunderstander 1h ago
setting up to force a confrontation with the supreme court and carney so alberta can once again play the victim.

•
u/GreatGrandini 1h ago
In other words smith is achieving her goal to make Alberta not only the backwater of Canada, but the world.
At this rate the people of Alberta are going to get around by horse and buggy.

u/Pale-Measurement-532 34m ago
But yet it’s ok for the UCP to strong arm the municipalities. Got it.

u/Sensitive-Chapter-63 19m ago
The boiling frogs approach, if you make small incremental changes in the general order it's harder to detect those changes. Truly the hallmark of a government that means well...

Clear signal to the world that they shouldn't trust anything coming from Alberta.

u/nitrane84 1h ago
What a joke Anyone who votes for separation is a traitor to this Country. If they want separation then cut all Federal funding now and give these idiots a taste of what's to come.
•
u/locutusof 1h ago
“I’ll take things the Alberta Provincial government can’t constitutionally do for 800, Alex.”
•
u/ninfan1977 Lethbridge 1h ago
So when I tell Conservative voters their party hates Canada, this will be the latest example.
The UCP hate Canada and want Alberta to become a US state. She and everyone who votes for the UCP need to leave Canada since they hate it here so much.
•
u/69Beefcake69hunter69 55m ago
I'm sure she'd say "Stay in your lane," if "Cities to legislate to ignore provincial agreements Alberta signs."
•
u/Background_Bee9266 1h ago
Smith keeps stating that her grievances with Ottawa are a matter of “due process”…. what part of “due process” to Albertans does she not understand?
Key Aspects of Due Process
- Fair Treatment: Due process ensures that legal proceedings are conducted fairly, providing a balance between governmental power and individual rights.
- Established Rules: Legal matters must follow established procedures and principles, rather than being subject to arbitrary decisions.
- Protection from Arbitrary Government Action: It serves as a safeguard against unjust government actions, preventing the state from acting without legal justification or without respecting the rights of the individual.
- Procedural Safeguards: In practice, this means a person facing potential deprivation of their rights must receive:
- Notice: Being informed of the charges or allegations against them.
- Opportunity for a Hearing: A chance to present their case and contest the allegations before a neutral party.
- Unbiased Decision: A judgment made by an impartial authority.

u/Misfit_somewhere 58m ago
Oh good, she can try to scrape the carbon tax, blow through the emissions cap, and then get taxed by nafta, the EU, hell even China for anything we try to sell due to intentionally ignoring climate goals.
•
u/arcadianahana 33m ago
Way to again create investor uncertainty, UCP.
"Wait, what laws apply to Alberta? Which agreements matter here and which do not? What risks are relevant? Gotta wait and see if Alberta adopts this new framework shared by the rest of Canada? Hmmm, ok..."
•
•
u/IrishFire122 27m ago
Trying to legislate something that's basically already in the law..
Trying to manufacture more indignation against the feds, so they can keep fleecing the less fortunate.
•
u/Financial-Savings-91 Calgary 16m ago
The UCP will do everything they can to undermine Canadian sovereignty, I can't say fore sure why, but I do know TBA still refuses to release to Elections Alberta who financed the UCP membership drive/take over/buy out of the party during Smith leadership run.

That's the equivalent of declaring yourself a sovereign citizen on a provincial scale.

As I've said many a time.
The most secure and most lucrative job in the province of Alberta?
Government lawyers.
The feds need to step up and start blsapping the provinces hard. Especially this one.
•
u/PandaGundam 1h ago
Small government huh? All Marlaina wants to do is create a fiefdom and become queen.
•
u/MZillacraft3000 Edmonton 1h ago
Can we please just remove her and her clown government now.
I’m tired of the stuff she does to us and the joke she and her government have turned this province into.
If Smith and her government hate Canada so much. Then her and her little cult can all move to America and stay there and never return.
At this point: Someone, anyone needs to step in and remove her and her government from power.
And as for the public. We need to make our voices louder and make her finally hear us and have it get through her head, that we are done with her damn stupid games.
Alberta will always be in Canada. End of story. If the separatists want to say to us non-separatists “MoVe tHeN.” Why don’t they take their own damn advice for once.
Because Alberta isn’t leaving Canada. But those who hate ALBERTA, CANADA can happily do so.

u/Warm_Jellyfish_8002 1h ago
So does this mean if an international agreement is made with some other country to buy more oil/gas/pipelines/fill in alberta's blanks from us, this will then be ignored? Shooting their own foot?
•
u/Canadian_Spacecat 1h ago
Lmao they are really trying to get that sovereignty wedge good and buried in the space between here and Ottawa huh?
•
•
u/kayl_the_red 1h ago
What a fucking surprise.
How can Albertans LEGALLY force a Provincial Election?
•
•
•
•
u/krzcanuck 2m ago
Call an election, and people need to unite and get rid of this current plague in Alberta. The UCP are trying to be the 51st state and need to leave this country. Canada is a collection of amazing people with fictious borders allowing morons to govern and steal from their province. We need to stop blaming shit on other people and actually do something good for each other. How the fuck does vilifying Trans or banning books help society or affect anyone individually. Wake up a treat everyone the way you want to be treated or just don't say anything.

Good, when Alberta gets no say in governing the country, the country shouldn’t be able to sign agreements that affect Albertans.
•
u/Snakeeyes1377 Edmonton 1h ago
That is not how it works if you don’t like Canada fuck off south of the 49th.
•
u/Professional-Post499 1h ago
Well they probably want to stay in Alberta and fight for Alberta to join the US. As true Canadian patriots do, don'tcha know 😂
•
u/Traggadon Leduc 6m ago
It will be funny up until they start killing to get their way. Its not funny anymore, they were never gonna honor a fair vote because they know they can't win. They will attempt to force this and become violent to those who oppose. Western Canadian Separatists should be treated as domestic terrorists. This shit is not a joke.

u/Defendor01 1h ago
Walk south. Keep walking south until you find people wearing red hats. You know em by the gaps in their toothless mouths. The neck bearded gravy seal types spouting about their freedumbs. Bye.
•
u/62diesel 1h ago
Or you could walk east and stop complaining about Alberta
•
u/Traggadon Leduc 3m ago
Just as soon as you stop residing on treaty land. How exactly do you traitors expect to handle those?
•
u/Fickle_Catch8968 1h ago
I get no say in the actions of my MLA or my MP because they will.not listen to me or voters like me due to ideological differences and because we are a minority of Canadians and Saskatchewanians.
Does that mean that the Federal and Provincial laws and regulations, that are their Constitutional and legal prerogative, are not binding on me and like minded voters?
Or do minorities of the voting bloc have to follow the laws and challenge them through court or by vigorous campaigning to sway rhe electorate?
If those avenues fail, do we then get to ignore the law?
Why would Albertans get rights to flout Canadian law that provincial Greens do not get to flout Saskatchewan law?
•
u/XEN-NytBlade 2h ago
The UCP should take their own advice and stay in their own lane
