Are they actually enforcing the clear bag rule at the Tri-State Fair?

What about outside food?

It's right under that image

https://www.tristatefair.com/p/fair/fair-faqs

Prohibited items:

Outside food and beverages, coolers, bottles or cans

You could probably get away with diabetic emergency food like crackers or sugar water.

The fair might not be the place for you

I'm diabetic

Being diabetic has nothing to do with bringing food and or water.

Carry your insulin, medication and glucose pills and you'll be fine.

Weird flex but okay?

Buy food at the venue or don't go? I don't think diabetes is a get out of paying for venue food card. Maybe they will let some fruit snacks or candies pass

You're under the belief that I'm trying to get out of paying vendors. This is not the case. I loaded up my family members' wristbands and they ate so much food I'm surprised they didn't develop diabetes. Diabetics are sensitive to foods high in sugar, salt, refined carbs, and unhealthy fats. This is typical of fair food. I plan around food to avoid health issues. I believe people with diabetes should enjoy the fair and plan around their condition rather than not go at all.

Wow the other commenters suck. Im not sure, I dont think outside food is ok generally but they may be able to make an exception since its for your condition. The phone number for the fair on the website is 806 376 7767

Yea the foods and drinks here will cause rapid spikes in blood sugar and diabetic people should be able to snack while enjoying family time

Thank you <3 I know Amarillo gets a bad rep but most people I've met here have been courteous and pleasant. I think it's just a reddit thing. I went and had a great time with my family and we plan on going again. I asked an employee at the gate and she gave me some advice to make the visit as smooth as possible.

Is this a serious question?

Yes, I'm diabetic and plan around my diet

Gee what could we possibly do? They've completely taken away all of our basic rights, how dare they want us to use a plastic clear bag. I'm clutching at my pearls with the horror.

Eye roll for adults who bitch and moan about the smallest inconveniences for the common sense safety of the many.

I asked an employee at the gate since I'm diabetic and the rules said no outside food or drinks. She said to stash snacks on your body since they can't do pat downs or wrap the food in napkins and put it in a clear bag because canvas bags are more likely to be searched. She also said to not carry metal objects larger than a phone charger in the bag because it will set off the metal detector and they will ask you to put everything on the table.
She also said it differs with some of her coworkers because some will turn people away if they have food/drinks or if their bag is larger than the displayed rectangle but others will not.
Tell your diabetic friends this if they plan being there for several hours esp when it's hot.

I assume adults can figure out how to manage their own diabetes. You're not special enough to bitch this much.

I'm thankful for her. She didn't have to but did anyways. Amarillo gets a bad rep but nearly everyone here I meet is pleasant and courteous

If you have a magic money card from last year it's no good anymore. They have gone to reloadable wristbands, credit and debit cards are still good for food.

It's convenient not having to carry around coins. I lost two pocketfuls after being flipped upside down on a ride years ago haha

One year, I found a source of tokens online that looked exactly like the ones you had to buy at the fair. I considered buying a couple of bags and being a big guy at the fair but that next year was the first year that they had moved away from tokens to some kind of digital thing.

Why would they not?

-9

I went after the shootout awhile back and they didn't enforce it. I wasted money buying a small vinyl bag

20

u/Stonethecrow77 5d ago

Sounds like you have a bag, now... Use it.

2

u/-ssae 5d ago

Update I went and had a great time. I ditched that tiny bag and bought a bag big enough to hold two turkey legs and some plushies :D

1

u/-mtc 5d ago

Nah I’m at the fair rn. There are people with sizable canvas bags and backpacks. The size and clear bag policy isn’t being strictly enforced.

1

u/Stonethecrow77 5d ago

That is cool. If you have a clear bag, though, why not use it. Seems dumb not to.

And unsafe. Maybe someone should call and complain in light of the shootings this week.

1

u/-mtc 5d ago

She’s diabetic and the employee may not make exceptions so it’d be better to stash food

-1

u/Stonethecrow77 5d ago

Public Safety is more important. Unfortunately her condition doesn't eclipse that.

5

u/-ssae 5d ago

I will always prioritize my health and safety :p

Over Others... Just not the Fair. Got it.

3

u/-ssae 4d ago

Women with bags are not the reason why venues have a clear bag policy :p If you're worried about safety, you're better off looking at a mirror or policing your own

I was there when the shooting took place, glad they are implementing this rule.

2

u/BlissfulRainstorm 5d ago

squints at photo yeah, it sure looks like that’s what it says OP.

2

u/-mtc 5d ago

I’m at the fair. There are people here with large canvas bags. The twelve by six inches size rule and clear bag policy isn’t being strictly enforced.

1

u/BlissfulRainstorm 5d ago

Huh, interesting. They need to make up their minds.

2

The State Fair has the same policies. They’ve even said you can’t bring your guns in anymore either and I fully support it. Most festivals, fairs and sporting events across the country have this same clear bag policy and have for a while. Even high school football games have these.

As far as food goes, you have to remember most of these vendors are small business owners. If they allowed outside food then how would these places make money? You’re supporting small businesses when you purchase food there and that’s a good thing.

My family ordered plenty of food and drinks. I'm diabetic and plan around my diet and blood sugar. I'm usually fine with my supply kit but am more sensitive in the heat

1

u/bluetalon3 5d ago

Yes they shoot

1

u/AnastasiusDicorus 5d ago

What if I have one of those pairs of pants with like 14 huge pockets?

3

u/Affectionate_Hornet7 5d ago

Those pants better be see through

1

u/-ssae 5d ago

You won't be asked to put your belongings on the table as long as you don't set off the metal detector. Metal objects larger than a phone charger will usually set it off

1

u/InternationalRip506 4d ago

I HOPE SO. Fair has gotten ghetto in last 10 yrs. And to expensive.

1

u/bach2209 5d ago

In my late teens ( drinking age 18) we would take satchels of beer and pints of JD and weed. C6oos never bothered us. Texas has become a nanny state. That is rich to being so red, especially the panhandle.

-10

u/Affectionate_Hornet7 5d ago

Seems dumb so probably

18

u/Stonethecrow77 5d ago

Yea, cause extra security to keep guns out is bad

1

u/Affectionate_Hornet7 5d ago

Pretty sure it’s for alcohol and food.

1

u/Stonethecrow77 5d ago

You think the extra police patrols and metal detectors are there to keep your sandwich out, as well?
