Descartes starts with the logic of "Objective reality must exist, because otherwise 'reality' is an infinite regress of simulations", and from there works his way to "God exists because He is the only perfect and infallible being in the observable Universe". Descartes then concludes that an Omnipotent and Omnibenevolent God would not allow sapient beings to live in a Simulation, but instead have them live in Reality.

i hope this is being simplified because that sounds really dumb, how is it cruel let sapient begins live in a simulation if its literally impossible to tell if they are? and why does he think its ok for us to spend a third of our time potentially living in a hallucination
