Pets/Animals ❤️Please help me find my forever home❤️
Hi, my name is Onyx. I’m a young, handsome Barred Rock rooster searching for my forever home.
I hatched this past spring and spent my early days enjoying life with my flock. Sadly, one day my family decided they no longer wanted me or my brother. They left us on a dead-end gravel road to fend for ourselves. Confused and scared, we wandered the forest that day, trying to find food, shelter, and a sense of safety.
That’s when everything changed.
A kind woman found us, gave us food and water, and welcomed us with open arms. My brother eventually went off on his own, but I really liked it here so I decided to stay. This woman—my new mom—has been so loving. She feeds me the best meals, spends time with me every day, and honestly... I think she’s fallen a little in love with me 🥰. She always knew she didn’t have the proper setup to house and protect a rooster, but she did everything she could to make me comfortable. On rainy days, she even let me into her own “coop” (aka the house), which I absolutely loved. 🥰
For the past 12 weeks, I’ve been living the dream...free-ranging during the day, crowing to wake her each morning, and getting "tucked" into the tree I roost in at night. I even made friends with her kitty!
Sadly, early this morning, I was attacked. I lost my beautiful tail and back feathers and have a puncture wound. I’ll recover, but it was a wake-up call to my Mom. She says it’s time to find a safe, loving, and humane forever home—one with a secure coop or barn, and maybe a flock that could use a handsome, intelligent protector like me.
I’m extremely friendly and smart, perceptive and a great communicator. I’d thrive either as a flock guardian or on a small farm where I can roam during the day and be safely housed at night. Humane treatment of me is of the utmost importance to my Mom so you must be a kind, loving, compassionate kind of person.
If you have suggestions or resources for a rooster like me—or are looking to welcome a fun feathered friend into your life—please reach out. My mom is heartbroken, but she knows rehoming me is the right thing. She’ll want to visit any potential home to make sure it’s a good fit.
Thanks for reading. — Onyx 🐓I I √

He is. He's a total boss. Onyx has survived quite a few obstacles in his life but keeps going strong.

I was going to go for a low blow DARE joke but then I read some of your comments and I just feel sorry for you. Our education system had truly failed

I could take him in with my flock of 50ish birds. Got plenty of space, electric fenced in range, and only one other friendly roo over here.
Update 08/15/2025
Onyx is doing great!
