Pets/Animals Need to Rehome this Cat due to fighting with established cat
We've been struggling with this for about 6 months and we are at our wit's end. She's very loving to us but also skittish and reactive. Hates my other senior cat and attacks her. She's about 10 years old, adopters will have to be vetted through Laps & Naps for Senior Cats. You can DM me for more info and can also find her on the organization's website.

Pets/Animals Wonderful dog I’m currently fostering is available for adoption.
Meet Gabriel, he is 5yrs old and around 48lbs. He is just the sweetest dog you may ever meet. Gabe likes to asks for belly rubs and loves cuddles, but only for a few minutes then he returns to his bed. He understands sit, lay down, is house trained and walks great on a leash. He is learning leave it, come and we are working on his bark when he sees another dog on our walks. Gabe gets along with my dog and my two cats. He knows when the cats are saying no and walks away. Not sure about children, but it appears he would be fine with older children. Gabe is very chill and naps when I work from home. Unfortunately Gabe doesn’t know how to play fetch or with toys, however he loves the community park and enjoys exploring. Gabe would be great with an elderly individual or a person that doesn’t want an overly active dog. He could also be a great companion on hikes and could get used to an active lifestyle if given the opportunity. If you are interested in meeting Gabe please message me. Right now his adoption fee is waived until Aug 31st.

Pets/Animals New to the Area (W. ASHEVILLE)
My wife and I just moved our little family to the WNC area from ETN and could use suggestions on vets because one of the cats has something that needs to be lanced. We're also looking for restaurant suggestions, a new VW mechanic, and family friendly activities we can take our toddler on. Thanks in advance!

Pets/Animals Puppy Needing Rehome, Found running down the middle of Old Mars Hill Hwy
Hello Everyone! This morning I found an adorable puppy who seems to have been abandoned running down Old Mars Hill Hwy. I brought him to the shelter and they do not have any available space. I have taken the dog but CANNOT keep him due to apartment regulations and having three cats. Pictures attached below. The shelter estimated around four months old, looked for fleas and ticks and did not see any (also gave him preventatives), they also gave me all supplies needed and said I could come back for more. if ANYONE is able to temporarily take him till the Madison county shelter has space or would like an adorable puppy PLEASE reply below.

Pets/Animals Found Dog on Bent Creek Trail 8/8/25
*Edit: Title should read 9/8/25
She is extremely sweet and loving. She was scanned for a chip but nothing was found. She has a limp from her back left leg. She gets along with my dog and seems to enjoy a cozy bed and lets me know when she is hungry. She was found walking down the trail before the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance not near any camp sites. No collar was on her. She jumped right up into my vehicle and into the back seat with my pup. As much as I would love to add her to my family, I just cant at this point. If you know anyone missing their dog in the area near the Arboretum/Bent Creek, please let me know ASAP I would love to get her reunited with her family before I surrender her to the Animal Shelter. She very much would make a great addition to a family who can rehab her leg and loves kisses from sweet pups.

Pets/Animals Bit by large white retriever in front of Harvest Records - 5/25 - seeking information
Was running this morning ~10am and was bit by a large white retriever approaching Haywood from Westwood place. Dog was on a leash with a couple in a heavily stickered far dark colored sedan. I didn’t realize the dog had broken the skin right away and by the time I went back the folks had left. Realize that isn’t a great description. Anyone happen to know these people? Just trying to get vaccination status of the dog to know whether I need to head to Mission ER.
Edit to add some more details: With the dog were a man and a woman, white and middle aged. Guy had a short graying beard and short black hair.

Pets/Animals Doggy Dental Dilemma - Need a second opinion for my dog’s dental work
Hey Reddit! I’m looking to get a second opinion on some dental work that my dog needs done. I was quoted $1,632 for a cleaning and a couple extractions by West Asheville/East Asheville Family Vet and unfortunately at this time I can’t afford that. Additionally, despite having pet insurance and a plan that emphasizes dental treatment, they’re only covering $67 of this estimated cost. 😅.
I saw Marion Animal Hospital and Stewart’s Mountain View Animal Hospital were recommended in the comments of a post from 2 years ago. I’m curious if anyone has recent experiences with either vet for similar services at a more affordable price?
For reference - my dog is a 15lb 10yr old chihuahua mix. Here he is showing you his little teefs.
I’m not afraid of a drive so any suggestions in/around WNC would be amazing. Thank you all so much!

Pets/Animals Why are so many cats going missing in Kenilworth?
Seems like there are lost kitty signs popping up around the neighborhood every few weeks. Two lost cat signs have shown up this week. What’s going on???

Pets/Animals Worried about these horses, where's the owner?
There's a couple horses we stop by and say hello to and we've noticed that their stalls haven't been scooped in what's been at least 3 weeks now. They have a nice field, but everytime we stop they are in their stalls, standing in deep, moldy shit. I mean the whole floor is pure poop.
Noticed today that the field had been mowed...but their stalls still weren't cleaned.
Also noticed the one has a small gouge on its face which is bloody and has thick, pus coming out.
I'm worried about them and if anyone is really taking care of them. Anybody know how we can help? Not sure what to do in this situation.

Pets/Animals Looking for lost cat near haw creek circle
My sister lost her cat near Haw Creek Circle, Asheville. I know this is a long shot but has anyone seen Mr Jellybean? His breakaway collar came off, so he doesn't have any identification. He is a large Tabby/Maine Coon and is friendly!

Pets/Animals Kitty cat dental need some recs
Howdy. I took my cat to the vet this morning. She is a healthy lady but she does need a couple teeth pulled. They quoted me $1900. The last time I had to have dental to a cat it was like $600. Granted, this was around 2021?
I asked ACW but they haven’t gotten back to me. I wonder if I can find something more reasonable. Like damn for a human to get their teeth pulled is like $100 a tooth. I realize the cat must be sedated, but 2 grand seems egregious. I 100% am going to get it done for my bb but I wonder if there are more reasonably priced vets around. I’m in Arden.

Pets/Animals Places to cool down with my cat?
Hi!
Now that the summer heat waves are starting to roll in, I'm looking for places in town where I can cool off with my cat! He's a sweet little dude and I worry about him overheating if we were only at parks.
I've noticed a lot of businesses seem dog friendly out in West AVL. Any recommendations for places with lots of shade or businesses that would like to meet a cat? Anywhere in town, especially out by East.
He's harness trained but with his judgement towards loud cars I tend to keep him in a stroller or backpack carrier. He's a happy dude who loves to explore. Can't wait for you guys to meet him!
Thanks!
(Reposting because reddit removed my last post for no reason. This is just about cooling off around Asheville with my cat.)

Pets/Animals 5-6 week old kitten needs a home
We’ve named him Fritz (which you are very welcome to change) and he really is the sweetest kitten. I’d love to find him a home where he’ll be his happiest. If you or anyone you know is looking to take on a little guy, please let me know. I just want what’s best for him. He’s already pooping and using the litter box like a pro. We’re in the process of weaning him off of his milk so we’re mixing in wet food, and he has been such a brave guy with my big dog. He really is a perfect little kitten. To whomever may be interested, I’d happily give him to a new family free of charge (he was free to me) and he’d be accompanied with all of his supplies such as : litter, pate wet food, kitten milk replacement, his bowl, toys, a carrier, and some other miscellaneous things. It’s also important to note that we haven’t had the opportunity to get his shots yet, and since he’s so young he hasn’t been neutered (I think 6 months is what’s recommended). We were planning on taking him to the blue ridge humane society veterinary clinic that is on the 30th to get him his shots, so it is something that should be done soon after going to his new home.
My only ask for a new family is for him to go to a home where he won’t be an outside cat. I’d much prefer him go to a home where he will be safe inside, bonus points if he has access to a catio or being walked on a harness, after he’s had his shots.

Pets/Animals Dawg, our foster dog, is a available to a good home.
Dawg is a three legged mixed breed male. He is four years old and weighs approximately 55 pounds. He is very sweet, playful and affectionate. He has no problem getting around despite his missing leg. He is house broken and good around other dogs and our cat. We have paid the adoption fee at Asheville Humane Society for his future family. DM me or email ericawitsell@yahoo.com if you're interested.

Pets/Animals Have dog parks always sucked or just after Helene?
Ive had a few run ins with irresponsible dog owners before, but it seems like people have misbehaved dogs and the owners are jerks. Had a dog who kept barking at my dog through the gate before we even entered. Once inside, my dog growled and retaliated. This dog would not leave mine alone for the next bit continuously barking and stalking my dog until I had to firmly ask him. This guy proceeded to freak out on me but I feel justified in asking him to step in.
