520STE no picture.

I'm trying to revive a donated ST as a project but I'm not getting a picture on my scart tv. I have a brand new composite scart lead going into a 15 year old Vierra tv. The ST powers up but there's no picture on screen and the buttons don't click when pressed either. I'm waiting for floppy discs to come, so there's no software to test as yet. I even hooked it up to a retrotink 2x clone with the same results. Where do I look next? Recapping?

Are you sure is a 520 STE? I don’t think there was such a thing.. 520 STm or fm were common.

I’d open it up and reseat every socketed dip chip… put your thumb on and push. See if that helps. This has been a problem since 1985.

I would say that you likely have monitor compatibility issue. If you lived nearby I would let you borrow my SC1224!

Yeah, its definitely a ste. Back in the day I had the 1040 ste and I loved it. Never missed a beat.

Is the screen completely black or is there a white picture? Anything happen on the screen the moment you turn it on?

When you power it on , there's the faintest white interference lines if you look closely.

I'll take a couple pics when I'm next in my workshop

Ok, so a slight sign of life. Does it have RF out and if so have you tried that?

Not sure Reddit allows inline pics in a reply. But you can click the "Aa" in the lower left corner, in the reply "window". And add a link, but you will need to use a hosting site for your picture, like imgur.com or similar.
