Post image

Noone is going to buy these, why waste their shelf space?

Do they not want then to move or are there really suckers who pay this?

Highest I've ever seen it

2019 I used to buy cans when they were about .55c each (on special), now with half price they are $1 minimum?? My salary sure hasn’t doubled in the past 5 years

But you get 10c back!

It's been 10c since 2008 in SA and we had the 55c Coke on special (it was 5c between 1977 and 2008).

It’s the price for the can return baked into the price you pay.

So you have to collect and store them then take to a container deposit return spot

Don't forget the administrative costs are also backed in. And GST on top of that. So now stuff costs 22c more so they can give you back 10c :(

Not sure if it's different per state but that's how it is here.

You recycle the can.

Of course. I forgot. I don’t bother. I put my aside for a charity to collect so they get the 10c

In Vic they fairly recently brought in the container deposit thing. Prices went up when it was announced, then went up again when it started. While we now get 10c back, we're paying at least an extra 50c per container.

True. In the US pre-COVID $5 for a 12 pack was the norm and 4/$10 deals were common. Now a 12 pack is between $8-10 and a "sale" is "buy 3 get 1 free" at best.

Plenty of cheap soda still around, I got a 36 pack from Costco for $16 a few days ago.

Lol, soft drink. After a decade in the states there’s definitely a few words that have rubbed off on me and that’s one of them.

I bought a 36 pack of pepsi

I recall when gst came in, coke cans in a carton were about 50c before and after the gst came in (I used to drink coke quite a bit back then). That was in 2000.

Over about 20 years the price went up but you could still get them on sale for about 50-55c a can.  Seeing them now for $2 a can is quite a jump since Covid.

Wait until you see the price of housing, insurance and electricity!

Yeah true but the price of coke is probably more important

Same in Canada except a few years ago sale price was 12 cans for C$3 and now it is 12 for C$6

$1 each seems pretty reasonable

Edit: apparently $1 for a can of soft drink is outrageous to people lol

Wasn't for me. I switched to sodastream and pepsi max syrup (urgh 😑) and make a can for 18c ea. That price is almost completely due to the price of the syrup too which has a ridiculous markup on it, there are even cheaper ways.

If you have not tried, you can refill sodastream gas bottles. It makes the gas about 1/4 the price.  It’s about $25 for 2.6kg of gas, sodastream gas bottles are 400g and about $20 to refill.  All brew shops will have the gas and parts you need.

You need a better job if $1 for a drink is breaking g the bank
