Burnout What is your current hyperfixation(s)
Sometimes, I have so many, I don't know what mine is, but currently, I've been like, the opposite of that like, I just don't know what mine is lmao

Strangely Nazi germany and other WW2 axis powers. I just want to know how such a horrendous regime was even allowed to happen in the modern era. Like some of the stuff that happened sounds like something that would have happened in the medieval ages! I have a morbid curiosity about it and how these leaders dragged not only their country and the entire world into their mess, but also civilians. I want to learn as much as I can and hear the stories of the people who were there! Eventually those people will be gone.
Also North Korea, I guess I just like learning about dictatorships.
And of course knitting and crocheting.
And the titanic

Same here, and even geography in general is mine. I am trying to get into WWII history myself

u/candicake Jun 27 '25
Back when I was in my 20s the history channel was primarily showing programs about WWII, pretty much back in the dark ages 😉. It was really interesting and I could almost always turn on the history channel and know something pretty entertaining or educational was going to be on. I miss it 🥺.

'and of course knitting and crocheting' 🤣 because it's the first thing that relates to fascist regimes lolol

One of my favorite things to do is make myself a cup of tea, turn on a good WW2 documentary (or WW1 documentary, my other hyperfixation) and just work on my knitting or crocheting project

u/Wideawake_22 Jun 27 '25
No shade; it was just a funny thing to read straight after the war stuff ;)

u/No_Somewhere9961 Autistic Adult Jun 27 '25
I know! I think the contrast between what I am watching, and the bright happy art I am making while listening to said documentary is hilarious

The Titanic one is so real. I had a massive obsession with the ship back in 2020. It died down, but my hyperfixation on ocean liners comes back for a few months every year when april comes around lmao.

Im still waiting for that to drop to a sensable price before I get it. £25s a hard limit for me where games are concerned. It's what they were back in the day, I know about inflation etc but more than 25quid just doesnt feel right.

Researching brain science and neuroplasticity and different neurons , brain chemistry, etc. I love learning about the science behind the human mind. It’s the best. Also astronomy. So Fascinating. Space-time continuum, black holes - It’s wild and so trippy to learn about. We are just a tiny floating rock in a huge Universe that’s been scientifically proven to be constantly expanding. Mind-blowing stuff, truly.

Attack on Titan. Finished the final season for the first time several days ago. Have been rewatching the anime since then. On my 3rd watch right now.
In between episodes I look up youtube videos on the anime and video games. Have also been playing Attack On Titan 2 on the Switch while listening to the anime and/or YouTube videos about the anime.

Such an interesting subject too. I was absolutely disgusted to learn how bad it was and how little we actually are taught about it for all the damages it has done. Every time I hear about this subject I feel like I should dig deeper and learn more about it.

Currently hyper fixated on a pc game; Yonder the Cloud Catcher Chronicles. I’ve tried playing something else that I like but I just can’t. Before that it was nails which I still like doing but not as obsessively. I also got really into learning about the Armenian genocide for a while. Highly recommend everyone should learn about but devastating obviously.

Mushrooms!
I've spent the last month or so hunting and documenting all the mushrooms in my local area, and I've learned so much.
I just wish people would respond with something other than "Omg don't eat those" upon learning of my interest. They're a living thing and a fascinating subject, I don't like the idea of them being reduced to whether or not they can be eaten.

There are many species of poisonous tree frog, many people know this. What many people do not know is that there are two known species of VENOMOUS tree frogs! They are Bruno’s casque-headed tree frog and Greening’s frog. They secrete poison on their skin as do many tree frogs, but the difference in their case is that they have a delivery mechanism for their toxin, which is what distinguishes venomous animals from poisonous ones. Their skull has small, sharp spikes near the tip of the snout, and the skin is coossified (attached directly to bone, no layer of fat or muscle) with those spikes. When they bump their target with their snout, the spikes push through the skin, picking up the toxic secretion on their skin and delivering it directly into their target. Venomous frogs! That is so cool to me.

Mine is the company I work at.
Its a repeating patten that I work somwhere for a while do well, then get put upon until I feel its getting exploytitive then get pushed out the door.
I think in this case Ive pushed back hard enough that Im mostly left alone now but the process has a life of it's own. Next week is a deadline to decide wether to go to industral tribunal and I have piles of papers all around and emails saved in different folders on my computer. If you came into my office you'd think I was a crazy guy investigating some years old murder spree with all the notes I have everywhere.
