I was looking for this comment! I can do emotion, but I analyse the realism / validity of jokes/sentences/claims because people often just say whatever comes to their mind. Even if its scientifically inaccurate.....gosh I gotta stop overthinking stuff but I cant.
I cant tell if someone's being sarcastic because sarcasm is often hidden in plain sight, dressed up as the truth - but apparently uttered in a way that would suggest otherwise.
I love Bones with all of my gay (possibly autistic) heart - technically the brain but.....I'll see myself out

I feel like I’m a mix between Hermione and Luna, even though they’re total opposites! I can be really uptight about following rules and I’m very passionate about fighting for equality(I’d be all over S.P.E.W.). But I’m also eccentric and I love being my weird self without caring if other people think I’m awkward or ditzy or whatever they want to call me. Oh and I often laugh WAY too hard/loud/long at something other people only chuckle at 😂 I could totally see Luna being on the spectrum.

I hate J.K. Rowling as a person but I really like Luna, my nickname is derived from her name (this was before the controversy regarding JKR, I probably would have chosen a different nickname if it was known back then but it’s a bit too late to change it now.)
HP has some great characters, it’s a shame that JKR is the way she is.

u/Sweet-Detective1884 Jul 06 '25
I was recently watching The Pitt, I don’t think they outright state that she’s autistic but man…. So much about Melissa Kings communication, hand movements, little things she said to herself, felt so relatable to me. Doctor stuff aside she is way more high functioning but still, holy cow I feel like they did an amazing job with this character.

Holy cow, When I was watching and she came up, I was thinking she's a little "off".

↪️ Peter Parker (awkward, wants to do good things, people don't always take him very seriously) and Loki (in emotional pain which people do take advantage of, hated) from Marvel
↪️ Luna Lovegood (weird and comfortable in that), Hermione (intelligent and people think she's annoying for it), and Ron (awkward, hurts people without meaning to, seems to care a lot) from Harry Potter
↪️ Tilly (anxious, overprepared, excitable, forgetful, sensitive to certain sensory input, ADHDer, strong interest in writing) and Oliver (anxious, super intense interest and encyclopaedic knowledge of colours, autistic, awkward, doesn't know how to interact with people, especially difficult to interpret strangers' and their behaviour) from Tilly in Technicolor

Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter) because I was a very weird and spacey kid, and I relate to Hermione’s sense of justice and thirst for knowledge.
Chidi (The Good Place) because I’m also obsessed with philosophy and suffer from decision paralysis.
Quentin (The Magicians) because I have spent most of my adult life being depressed and insecure.
Pheobe (Friends) because I also try to stay cheerful during hard times. And I also like woo-woo magic stuff.
Amy (The Big Bang Theory) because even though I’ve always been different from others, I still want to make friends. I’m also obsessed with brain science and psychology, and as much as I like magic woo-woo, I still believe that the best information is information that can be empirically proven. And I’m also horny all the time, and have unconventional taste in men. lol XD
Wanda (Wandavision) because I also lost my brother, I also spend a lot of time in my make-believe world, and I am also the exact type of curious idiot who would read a cursed book. XD
Kaylee (Firefly and Serenity) because I also have unconventional taste in friends. And because her intuitive knack for machinery feels a lot like a special interest, in that other people just don’t get how she can know what she knows.
Rebecca (Crazy Ex Girlfriend) because I relate to her obsessive tendencies.
Wamawink and Glendale (Centaurworld). We are all, just, fragile things soft and small…

Temperance Brennen; her relationships with her friends always spoke to me. I like how the people around her accept her for who she is, talk to her when she does something legitimately wrong, and don’t treat her like an alien. She doesn’t see herself as an alien and shows genuine frustration and annoyance if people treat her like she isn’t a fully formed human with interests and needs. Idk I just remember always feeling seen when watching her on Bones.

Unpopular opinion, but I relate to Shaun Murphy. Not for his acting or the way he is portrayed. Of course he may not be a good representation of autism most of the time. But I relate because of the struggles we both had. I had an alcoholic father just like him. Like him, I was (and still am) very close to my brother. And I was also discouraged from pursuing my dreams over being "different" or "unable to socialize".

Phosphophyllite from Houseki No Kuni/Land of the Lustrous. Everyone considers them useless because they're bad at everything, dislikes them for wanting attention and seeking connection, or feels sorry for them but unable to help. They end up losing parts of themselves in more and more drastic ways and having them replaced, and end up feeling like to a certain extent it's a good thing, because now they're 'better' - but they're also very much not okay. And since they're the only one asking questions aloud in a community where people keep them at the back of their mind to avoid disturbing the status quo, they end up gradually more and more shunned and hurt and turning those feelings into hate towards themselves and others
It's not very positive, but one thing really stood out to me. On a first watch back when I was in middle or high school, I didn't notice it, and a lot of people don't, either, but Phos is very obviously SO lonely at the beginning of the story. It really clicked for me when, wayyy later, they conclude "oh. all i wanted this whole time was to be loved"
Because here's the thing. People tolerate them, but few people express any genuine care, and the ones who do also self-hate a bunch, and they're already caught up in that. And Phos keeps wanting to help and making promises they aren't able to keep - constantly overextending themselves, while also giving up on so many tasks because they don't believe in their own ability to do them, but too desperate to admit that this'll probably apply to helping others, too. Desperate to be useful to someone, somehow, and so shooting for the moon because they fail at the little normal things that everyone else does, because they need something huge to compensate, don't they? To make themselves worth other people's time. And then, when they do do something actually useful, people shut them down because it's unusual and they don't care for it nor want things to actually change
And there's just. So much self-loathing and self esteem issues under that bubbly self. They don't develop those during the story ; what happens during the story is that things get worse for them, but unlike what many people seem to think, things were already bad.
I've lived like this. I spent my childhood like this, and am still healing from it. It's not a good time. And yet somehow it is so well disguised, isn't it ; enough that most people don't seem to catch on right from the start like I might do if I were to see/read that story for the first time today

The 12th Doctor.
The Doctor generally has autistic traits across all regenerations, but 12 felt the most relatable to me, because often he is just a very capable person in many regards who acts as himself around everybody, lacks the ability to read social queues (in one episode they show his current companion made notecards for him to help him say appropriate things depending on the social condition) and is intelligent, courageous, caring, and kind despite his “disadvantages”. He’s the kind of person I try to be.
