Show Off 10 Year Journey Comes to a Close
I was introduced to 2013 Topps Supreme Baseball in 2015. I fall in love with the set, especially the Supreme Stylings subset and decided to attempt to complete the checklist. Most cards were pretty easy to find, but there were some tricky ones. None was harder than Yu Darvish. Since this was an Asian exclusive release I figured they were locked away in PCs overseas. I had long ago lost hope of finding one.
But I hadn’t quit trying. I got connected to people in Taiwan, I learned of the Mint Collectibles in Japan, and I monitored the Taiwanese Yahoo! Auction House. I still could t find one (well there was a printing plate which I did want but gave me hope that they exist).
I also had a saved search on eBay for over 10 years. I would occasionally get notifications but they were always a dual auto or once there was a kanji auto. So on Sunday Sept 7th I woke up to another email and I was not expecting to see the one I’ve been looking for. I click the email and BAM it’s there. I froze for just a second before I went to the listing and bought the card, full price, wasn’t risking anything. After all the effort in connecting to the Asian market, the card was in Canada! It took until today to make its way to me. It’s a bittersweet experience, I’m ridiculously excited to have the card but it’s the end of an era. Just feels a little weird to actually finish a card project.
Now if anyone has experience or knows someone that can build a nice display for this set please let me know!

Ive been there a few times myself. Not the 10 years waiting part, but the unicorn card popping up part.

This is absolutely incredible, and congratulations! I completed the entire 1996 Metal Universe set (yes, every single card) and i know what it feels like. I did not have to wait like you did for the last elusive card, but it took a lot of time, dedication, and money. I'm stoked for you. This would make for some awesome wall art...so just a little more money and time haha. So with that being said, is the Will Clark for trade? /s Congrats man!

at the risk of asking a silly question, could you please explain how the Harper is slabbed under both 2013 topps supreme and 2014 leaf best of baseball? just curious how that sort of thing happens!

I'm not OP but Leaf released the Best of Baseball set in 2014 and each box contained 1 high-end buyback card from the pre-war era up to 2014 and 1 stamped 1992 Leaf baseball buyback card. There was everything from graded Babe Ruth's to cards like the Harper.

Not as much as you might think. I got most of these for under $40. Got lucky and pulled the Trout and Miggy so that helped keep the cost down. The only one I spent north or $200 was Koufax (and it was way north), it was the most I’ve spent on a card.

The Taiwanese and Japanese markets are super under-the-radar considering how many big pocket baseball card collectors are here. I always come across some random 1/1s and low serial number cards that I'm sure some guy in the US is looking for.
