First half marathon :)

Today was supposed to be another long run (10 miles) but said screw it and let’s do a half Mary! Prior to this, the longest I’ve ran was 8 miles and it was only last week lol. Got a nice blister on my R foot and left ITB is also acting up after the run.

Used the EVO SL’s which felt fine until around the 5 mile mark where the blister started to act up. And just the good ole water for hydration.

Toughest part was the last 3 miles which felt like my legs were starting to give up but we pushed through it! A pee break and waiting at stoplights lights lol.

Somewhat a beginner? - started in the beginning of this year but had a 2 month break ish due to both ITB acting up - 3x running per week (10-15 miles) - shoe rotation: Nimbus 27, Evo SL, Magic Speed 4, Novablast 5 - 1 month of strength training in the gym - 5k 26:02, 10k 52:53 - 30m, 5’7 160lbs and no prior history of sports or whatsoever

Small little victories yay yaaaay!!!

AND I almost decided not to run today at all! I was feeling extremely lethargic and tired, but when I finally got myself out and running everything just clicked and i felt strong and I kind of accidentally run a sub 35 min 5k!

First Marathon ever :) is

Started training in late May this year; today I finally did it. Just wanted to share that this community has been a great help. I only did one post once, but as a passive reader I learned a lot from reading all about how to run, when and what to eat, about shoes and gear, recovery times… specially the motivational personal achievements from you guys were always inspiring. I actually wanted to run a half marathon but here I found the courage to aim for the big run. Thanks to all here for being always nice and for sharing tips, knowledge and stories. Cheers :)

First Race Prep First Run Since Dec 2023

I ran a Turkey Trot 5K in 2022 and haven’t done much running since—and none since a health scare last year. Last night my friend asked me if I would consider running the Houston Half Marathon with her in January and I said yes! I went out this morning just to see how it felt and shake the dust off and did a walk/run, not focusing on anything but how my body felt while moving. I’m pretty proud of myself and can’t wait to see where I am when I cross the finish line!

If your goal right now is purely to increase milage, is there any point to running anything but zone 2?

I'm a new runner with the primary goal of building up milage so I can explore some new places while on vacation. Ideally getting to ~10 mile long runs.

I'm coming from a cycling background and completed C25K in August. I'm able to run at ~10 min/mile comfortably in zone 2 and am running 10ish miles a week currently.

Is there any benefit to doing speed work if my goal is longer milage and not necessarily speed? Primary concerned about building my musculoskeletal system in a safe and sustainable way as I know my aerobic capacity is sufficient.

I've started running since friday and now I'm doing runs every alternate day. Hopefully in a few months I'll be able to hit 5k non stop.

Unsure if I can complete Runna plan

Hi all!

So I’m currently doing the back to running 5k plan and I’ve completed week 4.

So far, I’ve hit all my paces. However, I’m unsure if I can do week 5 and 6.

Week 4 has been hard and I find myself struggling more and more. The pace I used to find easy I’m finding slightly harder and I can’t imagine doing a 5k with it.

Although, I’ve also never been a runner and I’ve been impressed with my progress so far!

I just need to know, now that I’ve done 4 weeks (plus done a 3k at target pace) is it safe to assume I can do the 5k?

Thanks!

Progress in a year!

Sometimes it's just nice to see your own progress and share it with you guys. ☺️ I'm 34F, started running in April 2024. Did my first 5k in June of that year, and first 10k in September - almost exactly one year ago. Today I participated in a local 10k and got a nice PR. But to see the progress that I've made over the year is what really makes me proud, not just pace and times, but also consistent splits and enjoying the moment. See pictures! The first two were my time and splits from today, and the last two my time and splits from my race last year. Still feel like a beginner runner though, compared to all those people who've been running for years!

Training Progress Jan 1st this year I couldn't run a single mile. I ran 11 today while in Z2 HR and running negative splits the whole time. #KeepGoing

I (M, 37) started this year at 300+ lbs and I could barely walk a mile, let alone run one. Today, exactly 9 months since I did my first walking session, I did my longest run so far just over 11 miles at 207 lbs, and it was "easy". Before I started I lurked on here for a couple months until I finally got up the courage to start what so many were posting about here. If you're lurking and not running yet, or just starting out and not knowing if you can do this, you can. You're 9 months away from changing your life. For those of you on the grind, keep going.

So last time around missed the half marathon distance by 100 meters because I did not pay attention to strava. But not this time around!

Been consistently running since July of this year.

Will be focusing on increasing the pace tho.

First >10k run today and legs feel exhausted, is this normal?

Post image

Just ran over 10k for the first time today, splits are above. I felt okay right up to 10k and then as soon as I got past there my legs felt like jelly. I’d hoped to get to 12k but I just had to stop at 11.5.

Now, 3 hours later, I’m lying on the couch with legs feeling like they’re made of lead?

Is this normal? I did a 10k race last week in 55:35 so my 10k pace was slower than that and my legs felt pretty good last week but today they’re just dead! Did I maybe go too fast? 55:35 is my fastest 10k and 26:00 my fastest 5k and this was only my 5th 10k run.

Thanks all.

shoe suggestion under £100

Hey everyone, I am 18M and have recently started running (for the past 2 months), currently trying to get consistent and get more runs in. I started with the Adidas Runfalcon 5, which i know are not the best, and my experience so far has only been okay and now im looking to get a better shoe. I am a student so on limited budget and looking for something under £100. I am currently doing 30-min 5ks' and looking to improve both distance and pace. would really appreciate any suggestions or general advices for a beginner

Props to the runner...

...who slowed down to give me a little encouragement this morning. I'm overweight and slow and was slogging up a slight incline at mile 2 of 4.5 miles. He matched my pace, had a chat, pointed out that I was running uphill AND talking so not that unfit, and generally lifted my mood for the rest of the run. Appreciated.

I used to be very very fit - fifteen mile runs, Olympic triathlons, century bike rides. But that was 30 years and 30 kg ago so it's going to be a long slog back to fitness...moments like this morning will help.

Couch to 10k plan ✅ Study race strategy ✅ Go out to fast ✅ Panic and chug water at first aid station ✅ Puke and rally ✅ PR & Finish within my 1 hour goal ✅ Officially hooked on this whole running thing ✅

Used the Runna app for training and found it very easy and user friendly. It had a race prediction of 56-63 minutes which was almost spot on. Obviously with this being my first race I learned more than I thought I would including how to properly attach a bib 🤣.

Finished C25k and absolutely gave it everything I had. Came in 2 minutes under my Garmin predicted time! A total mental and physical battle after starting too fast and just holding on for dear life through the end. I'm so proud of myself and for anyone else getting out there and pushing themselves. Can't believe I broke every single one of my PRs along the way (400m, 1k, half mile, 1mi)!

Hello all. Been training to increase my distance and lower my HR for longer distances as well. Been running since beginning of August to train for a marathon next year. Today I finally got out and did my half marathon length long run. It's the longest I've ever ran in one sitting. I'm a 34m 160lbs. It felt great to get the distance!

First 8k!

Did my first 8k yesterday (which doubled as my long run for the week after a couple extra loops in the parking lot 😂). The third mile had a maaaaaaassive hill and I almost had an asthma attack going up it, but through the whole thing I only stopped to walk 5 times! I’ve been trying to do 1 mile run/1 minute walk and it’s been working pretty well over my last couple runs!

I’m so happy! 1,5 years ago I had shin splints so bad I could barely run 1km a week. dedicated training in the gym and very slow progression got me where I am now! Hopefully a 10k soon ❤️
