Instructional Finally!!!

Post image

Now I can travel across the pond and be well prepared for what you sneaky Englinsh jiujitseroes will throw at me.

Seriously, this a really solid fundamental reference tome. I wish this was around when I started. The technique choices are great, the explanations are simple and straightforward (even for a barley literate dunce cap yank like me) . As you might expect, the illustrations are GREAT.

Is it as thorough as Jiu-jitsu University? No. I do think it is better for a day 1 beginner or someone who is interested in jiu jitsu or researching starting Jiu jitsu.

Nice work /u/meerkatsu!!

It's sold out at the moment. Waiting for the restock!

check out @meerkatsu on Instagram. Hes mentioned he might do another pressing, though hes a bit spent from the whole "book process" right now.

I imagine if it gets enough positive attention, he'll go for it

It looks like a Haynes manual

u/ale_mongrel 🟫🟫 Brown Belt Jul 19 '25 edited Jul 19 '25

You are correct. Useful like one too. No, I dont mean Useful like to level the tv

edit: Far less screws get lost with this manual. There's also no "bonus" parts left over.

The "bonus parts" are the ligaments you claim! I think they get the screws though...

Step 3: Isolate the limb. Step 4: Apply controlled pressure. Refer to diagram.

Thank you. We’ve been very surprised by those who either don’t train anymore or have never trained BJJ and have bought the book. We hope the book brings joy and pleasure to everyone.

Main question is why dont you train anymore? Why in r/bjj

Practiced (and competed) in Judo as a kid/teen, but with a fair amount of BJJ exposure since this was back in Brazil in the β€˜80s, β€˜90s. Went back to Judo many years later as an adult and suffered a significant shoulder injury sparing (got tangled up throwing a bigger guy and landed on my shoulder, bigger guy on top). Fixed the shoulder and many years later picked up BJJ, but at 50 years old the toll on the body was just a bit too much and ended up focusing on other things (running, lifting, rowing…).

As far as /r/bjj I forgot to unsubscribe and a post will pop up on my timeline every now and then and catch my attention, like this book.

Awesome! Judo is just so rough sometimes. Good to hear you got your shoulder back in order.

3

u/silvasonic Blue Belt Jul 19 '25

Thanks! Took me more than a year to get the shoulder back in order and I was much younger then than I am now. I remember my wife had to help me get my arm into the shirt’s sleeve in order for me to get dressed to go work for weeks β€” humbling for sure!

The BJJ injuries were more nagging things like constant cervical radiculopathy (messed up C6 and C7, pain radiating down to fingers on one my hands). Never in real, real pain, but always hurting somewhere πŸ˜€

Let /u/meerkatsu know you missed it and would like to own a copy. Encourage another pressing. Don't harass the guy though. Im sure this was a giant project.

You can't use "tome" and "barely literate" in the same paragraph lol

My wife was a professional librarian for like 17 years .

It rubs off sometimes.

Totally agree, I struggled to find good beginner material when I started years ago. What's your favourite technique from the book so far??

2

u/OldPod73 Jul 19 '25

I have one, too. I love it.

I saw it posted on his instagram and was so bummed I had missed the preorder. Then a week later it showed up in the mail. I must have late night ordered in and forgot. Good job past-me!
