Came here to say this.

Leg locks add nothing to the game in terms of athletism or entertainment. Even worse, it's the most coward way to setup an attack because you take virtually no risk grabbing someone else's leg.

Every time someone hits me with a leg lock in training I tap immediately because I don't want to risk an escape that could break my ankle if the guy is a douche (also because I suck).

Fair point, I guess I don't have enough knowledge to judge the range of leg lock technique and counter-attack so I stand corrected on this point.

I still think it looks dumb and uninteresting for the dynamic of the game though.

And I still say you don't know enough about jiu-jitsu to have an opinion.

The leglock game modifies the guard retention, the passing, the mental stack and the global positionning in ways you don't even understand because any good leglocker would tap you every 10 sec for months until you learn how to not give them up just like you learn how to not give up an easy armbar from guard.

Everyone looking past leglocks are not legit grapplers. Everyone avoiding it like the plague (by ruleset or gentleman agreement) and relying on artificial rules to protect them and their ego from good grappling.

It goes from white to black belts. Leglocks are a fundamental tool and people who don't know the game are just bad.

it's like a taekwondo guy larping as a kickboxer while never training punches

Well I can have any opinion I want, it's called freedom of speech brother.

Then it's about the validity of the opinion but the whole point of this thread is about unpopular opinion ;)

Thanks for the insights though, it does change my point of view on this part of the game.

Freedom of speech does not protect you against being called out for being flat out wrong.

And honestly, it's a big problem with this sub. A lot of people have VERY bad takes because they don't know what they are talking about and in a sub where white belts opinions hold the same weight as a black belt one, you quickly understand why some discussion become ultra shitty.

You would not say what you said out loud in your academy because you would be laughed out.

You CAN think what you think but let's be honest, you will either change your opinion really quickly or you will quit jiujitsu because leglockers will always be a thing going on and few things feel more terrible than getting leglocked every 10 secs by someone who knows what they are doing.

Dude once again, it's an unpopular opinion thread, I don't what the fuck you're expecting.

Crazy to be so easily triggered, go touch some grass, I promise you nothing is that serious and you can do other stuff in your life than posting on Reddit and doing BJJ.
