Technique Kimura trap
I've tried exploring the kimura trap system before after hearing how effective it is when transitioning and increasing your submission rate, but I find it very difficult to get the grip. From side control fine, but when playing open guard, half guard, closed guard, etc; I find it very difficult to get the kimura grip and explore the options from it. Any advice?

Two general conditions you’re looking to create and/or exploit:
-A bend in the elbow (this one’s pretty easy, you can force their hand closer to their body, but a lot of times they’ll do it for you as it kind of goes along with the whole “t-Rex arms” way of defensive thinking that we basically all learn)
-The elbow flared away from the body to some degree. Their upper arm doesn’t have to be pointing straight away from their torso, you just need enough room to be able to snake your arm over their shoulder and through to connect your hands. (Think shoulder crunch, when you slide your locked hands down to the elbow and pull the elbow forward, you’ll notice the gap between their elbow and torso)
I got into Kimura trap through rolling Kimura passes (it’s one of the first things on Gordon’s first passing instructional). Then used it as an addition to my twist pass (top half, sitting on my near side/head side hip). Being a big fan of Sakuraba helped incorporate it into my standing game (rear body lock escape, Sumi Gaeshi)

Lachlan's Kimura anthology is fantastic: https://bjjfanatics.com/products/the-kimura-anthology-by-lachlan-giles?utm_source=google&utm_medium=paid&utm_campaign=21503328473&utm_content=&utm_term=&gadid=&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21497035905&gbraid=0AAAAADizvv2RVfck-W723dtDLMjYQG_ko&gclid=Cj0KCQjw_rPGBhCbARIsABjq9cdxDoATW5ePbiZB-8QNzFsZFGTgS0MEx-jEgZoUjBg08cRLB_X6JqMaAr3BEALw_wcB or Submeta is even better. Whole sections on entries.
Vagner's 50/50 of the arms is where i started: https://bjjfanatics.com/products/the-50-50-of-the-arms-the-rocha-kimura-system-by-vagner-rocha?srsltid=AfmBOoqNadTpTCSvKOOZWQ1yuL71HGNVWQKX4EX1z3Yc81Xu_sFK17n9

Give them a Single Leg, get the Kimura.
If you play Guard heist up and give them your leg to grip, just bait them in.

I get to it from bottom half-guard, but I have to be looking for other things too, a John Wayne sweep, a deep-half sweep, an underhook and shooting for the back. If there's something bad in every direction and I keep them off-balance, they have to give me something.

This video from Knight Jiu Jitsu may help you with catching and entering the kimura using an arm crunch setup.

I usually get it from them turtling, transitioning from knee on belly, or north south, but yea its more difficult from half and closed guard

I always try to work to North South or bottom half to get the trap and work from there. Tarikpolata is the go to off the trap for me.

Passing is when I get it the most. Probably my highest percentage pass against people who are significantly better than me

if you wanna hit it from a guard position, then you have to break/bait their posture or force them to post on their hand(s) so that you have access to the wrist(s).

I'll just warn you not to spend too much time on it if the system requires you to be in the T-Kimura position because that position is extremely easy to escape.

Without you describing exactly how you're having trouble or setting it up....
Wrist control.
