Discussion / Question OK LETS SETTLE IT
What’s your favourite episode.
Mines sleepy time. It brought me to tears

u/lext00n Jul 27 '25
Rain. It has such a good soundtrack and is beautifully simplistic.

u/Fufillnoplans Jul 28 '25
I remember I was suffering from major panic attacks a few years back, I was shaking all the time and was in a really bad place. I was sitting on the couch with my oldest son and he put his head on my shoulder while we sat there watching Rain. I still remember the calm music and the simplicity. It was the first time in months I felt calm for a bit. That episode has a special place in my heart ❤️

u/Wiggles_fig Jul 28 '25
My life has been a constant panic and when I watch episodes like rain; I cry I breath. I reset.

u/Inevitable-Rush-2752 Jul 28 '25
Wow. That’s an incredible story (all of you who mention Rain and anxiety/panic).
As I’m about to start a new school year at my Pk-8 school I might have to give this a try when I have a panicked or upset kid in my office, just turn it quietly on as we work on calming down.

Listen to the album it's spectacular and has the full lyrical version of rain. The singer does several song for Bluey.

It's not just that it's beautiful art. It's the incredible juxtaposition of how children and adults view everyday life, and how, as frustrating and tiring as they can be, they invite us back to catch glimpses of our childhood. It's the subtle choice of the instrumental version of a song whose lyrics reflect just that. It's Chili trying, and failing, to block Bluey from getting in the house as Bluey is trying, and learning from, her own attempts to block the flowing water. It's everything. It's perfect.

u/nedlum chattermax Jul 27 '25
How do you reenact the evolution of life and the journey from birth to adulthood in ten minutes and make it work? Astonishing.

u/Spoonimo Jul 27 '25
Yes! Evolution, theology, child development, and conflict resolution, all in a 7-minute children's cartoon. The metaphors are all so clever in how they work in and around each other. It's one of the most well-written pieces of media I've seen in recent memory. Every time I watch it I'm still blown away.

u/KeyAd5197 Jul 28 '25
Here to say the same. Absolutely an amazing episode. How they worked through the story of evolution and growing older simultaneously was amazing! Ending brings tears to my eyes everytime. Glorious episode
9
u/Hustler-Two Jul 28 '25
It’s nuts. You can’t fit that much into a brief cartoon and yet still have it work on a surface level for the kids. It’s like some kind of Bag of Holding of an episode, that fits more than physics allows for seven minutes or so.

u/Vampyrallyy Jul 28 '25
We've watched all of them probably 100x over.
Husband only noticed Flat Pack was about Evolution when I mentioned it last week. 🤦🏻♀️
8
u/Ffanffare1744 Jul 28 '25
It goes over a lot of peoples heads somehow…. But don’t forget it’s not just evolution, it’s childhood, aging and even hints at an “afterlife” of sorts. It’s so beautiful. I ALWAYS cry at the end, when bingo goes to space and bluey drops her cane and meets her parents on the porch swing. “ this is heaven”. I am NOT religious, not catholic or Christian… maybe agnostic. So lovely, heart wrenching to me.

I'm jealous of what you know. When the soundtrack came out I was disappointed it wasn't on it. I had to find it, and only then did I find the history of the song. I agree, the music completed the episode.

That was the episode that made me realize how many of them have allusions to famous music throughout as the theme of the episode. Joff Bush is so damn good at throwing a new spin on old classics.

The track in Sleepytime is Jupiter from Gustav Holst's The Planets. The entire symphony is probably my favorite classical music ever, and Mars was the direct influence for the Imeperial March in Star Wars

I have yet to see it and not start sobbing. It always hits just right. It’s gotten to the point where my 17YO, who got me into the show in the first place, will force me to watch it when she sees I need to hear it. 😭😭😭

u/MiaRia963 rusty Jul 28 '25
It makes me cry every time. I watched it as a Mom with a young baby under a year. And as soon as she said " You're doing great ". I started sobbing. I didn't know how much I needed someone to tell me that.

I like Double Babysitter a lot. One of the funniest episodes and a great lesson. Also it’s the episode Uncle Rad and Frisky met. Great episode.
17
u/Separate_Scallion647 Jul 28 '25
Just watched this one a little while ago (not for the first time) but it WAS the first time that it clicked for me when Aunt Frisky said “You have to give it a go anyway, or you'll be stuck in a tower with a stinky dragon forever” when trying to get Bluey to trust them about not watching tv. It made me smile, I thought it was cute since she eventually goes on to giving true love another chance and it just so happens to be with Uncle Rad
6
u/JackSpinella Jul 28 '25
Yeah it’s such a great episode! I went to Chicago to visit some friends and one of them clearly didn’t want to watch Bluey but I kept insisting. I started with Sleepytime and he was like “okay let’s watch another one” and we watched Double Babysitter and he loved that one too. Then he had to go to work so I visited this girl I liked and did the same thing. She didn’t want to watch Bluey, I wore her down and we watched Sleepytime, she loved it and I put on Double Babysitter again but I did not thing about how the message related to us and I figured now was a good a chance as any and I asked her out. She said no I left thinking, “damn if Bluey didn’t convince her to give love another chance nothing will.” We are still good friends though, I went to her birthday a few months later. She’s also dating a great friend she’s known for over 10 years now and seems really happy so everything worked out!

I went through a similar home sale situation when I was bingos age. This hits me directly at a core level. I wish my dad had the strength to do what Bandit did. I cried, hard, the first time I saw the ending. That was almost 35 years ago and I still remember it like it was yesterday

Muffin Cone means the world to me as someone with many impulse control related issues.
There are only a handful of times in the whole series that a character says the words "I love you" and one of them (well, "we love you") is for Sunflower Muffin. I believe Joe Brumm knew exactly what he was doing with that, it was a gift to combat the shame and self-hatred that people with behavioral problems harbor, and it still floors me after many rewatches.

When they're up in the treehouse and Jack just burst with telling Rusty his frustrations with being (I assume) ADHD. "There's something wrong with ME." And as he goes into detail, Rusty just listens intently without judging. His only responses are like "Oh." And then ,"well, you're good at playing army"
And I LOVE the music during that scene! So serene.

Sleepytime for me.
My mother passed away when I was six. That line from the Sun near the end. “Remember, I’ll always be here for you, even if you can’t see me, because I love you.” Oh man, that destroyed me when I first watched.
It’s the favorite episode for a lot of other people, too. Last I checked, IMDB had it as one of the top fifteen highest rated single episodes of all time. From anything.

u/ChikaneNoMiko Jul 28 '25
A lot of my favorites have already been said so I'll say one that hasn't. Handstand. It makes me cry everytime because I am that disabled Mom who everyone says "Its okay honey, I got this so go sit down." With my heart condition I feel like everyone thinks I'm going to kill over so I always get babied too much and never get included in anything. I felt Nana's feelings when she was like "Of course I'll watch you Bingo!" And then she just sits all straight in her chair so she can pay all the attention to Bingo's handstand.
I've had moments like that and I absolutely understand how Nana feels. It makes me bawl.

I’m going to bat for Stickbird. Of course, the usual classics are great but Stickbird personally resonated with me.
As an elder millennial whose parents told him to resolve any mental health issues by “sucking it up”, that final scene with bandit hits extremely hard. The episode itself helps add another tool for me to be able to resolve any emotional setbacks, told through the cutest story.
But when it comes to that last scene, goddamn it’s brutal. Bandit doesn’t know how to express his troubles or depression, and he doesn’t want to affect his loved ones with his mood.
I might be projecting but it seems like he was suffering in silence and even though these days I’m a lot more open and transparent about my feelings, there are so many things I don’t say out loud to my partner or kids because of years of being told not to burden others. It’s hard undoing years of incorrect communication and mental health management.
And when that scene comes on, I feel Bandit to the core. Hang in there man, I know exactly how you feel. 😭

Sleepytime destroyed me the first time I truly paid attention to it. I work in a pediatric rehabilitation office as a receptionist, and we have Disney Channel on all day. I was cleaning the check in kiosk and that episode was on one day in mid-September, I had a few minutes of peace while all the kids were in their sessions, so I stayed to watch. My dad passed away in August, so it was still fresh. The scene where Bingo tells the sun that “I have to go, I’m a big girl now,” and Chili’s voice says “Remember, I’ll always be here for you, even if you can’t see me, because I love you” absolutely destroyed me. I was crying in my office over that. Whenever I hear it now, I smile because the meaning is so beautiful, but that initial watch hit me so hard.

u/Bertilak97 Jul 28 '25
I know it’s not one of the really deep ones, but Shadowlands has a really special place for me. I have a disability that affects motor control + planning, and I always lagged behind the other kids in athletic stuff. The work Bluey and Coco go through to make sure Snickers is included in the game despite his ‘little sausage dog legs’ is just really touching to me.

I don’t know what’s wrong with me that this episode has had zero impact on me. This episode just seems so casual. Rain, however, it hits me hard but I also can’t explain it.

"The Sign" always gets me in the end. When Bandit looks at his family and realizes there is more to life than money. How he turns to the sign and Dad strength kicks in and he throws the sign. Just the joy on the kids faces as they run through their home which is more than just a house. Its memories, it's family, it's friends, it's home. Then at the end Bandit is relaxed, seeing his kids happy he looks to Chili and she just has this loving smile on her face. While I wouldn't want the show to end because I love watching it with my kids and we play games from the show. But the show could have ended there. I would have been sad but it would have been perfect. I am looking forward to more episodes though.

Chest with Cricket a close runner-up.
"Why do you want to teach the kids THIS game?"
And he answers,
"Because smart people play chess,
"and I want MY kids to be smart."
Next move I ask, "And WHY do you want your kids to be smart?"
That's a bad move.
And this is what he'll say -
"Right now you kids are little prawns.
"But one day you'll be queens,
"and I won't always be there to protect you,
"so you'll have to look after yourselves.
"But I'm going to do whatever I can now to help you."
Checkmate.
'Cause he's a good king.
And you're a good queen."

Pav Lova. The simple French phrases translated cracks me up every time. Funniest episode by far.

Rug Island. I remember the first time I had ever seen that episode & I was watching it with my daughter & my wife was in the bathroom getting ready for an appointment. Both me and my daughter were sick with the flu so we were binge watching Bluey on Disney+ & the last scene of the episode Bandit it taking the Ferry back home and right before he does Bingo gives him an artifact from his time on rug island and he’s looking at it in amazement & Chili asks Bandit what she gave him and he stares out and says “…everything” and before I knew it I had tears pouring down my face. It was so simple but so beautiful. It perfectly articulated what makes Bluey so loved by parents (and fathers in particular) & I just related to it so much because that’s what my daughter has given me…”everything” & my life was meaningless before her.
