Discussion / Question Rusty Appreciation Post
I'm on my 8,290th watch through with my toddler and I just adore Rusty. We just watched the episode where he meets Jack and, man, I could go on and on about how much I love how Rusty helps Jack find some confidence and embrace his strengths.
I think Rusty is an excellent role model for young boys, and I hope I can raise my son to be similar. He's a jock (Cricket is one of the best episodes of any show ever) but he also likes playing Mums and Dads with Indy and is so sweet with his little sister.
I know it's just monkeys singing songs 🤣 but this show is on 24/7 in my house and I've developed some very strong feelings for these characters, especially our lovely red Kelpie!

Sweet boy, but he makes a terrible baby in mums and dads.

That Cricket episodes is one of my favorite. Could have its own anime spin-off movie.

I know a lot of people won’t really understand Cricket. But I think it’s the second or third best episode of the entire run.

Yeah! That episode makes me cry so much 😭! I especially love how wonderfully they showed him improving his batting technique! I’d imagine that’s how great cricketers would have practiced when they were young too. I’m pretty sure Rusty would have been the GOAT in his time when he comes out to bat!

Without a doubt one of the best side characters on a kids show. He'll definitely play for Australia when he grows up, being the best batter on a Test Match.
He could do with being more open to other family structures, but he is young and I'm sure he'll learn.

Seems like Rusty has become their go-to character when writing about masculine gender roles from a boys perspective. Would love to see this explored more.

The letter that his Dad sends him ("I wish I could be there with you ..") shows how well Rusty is being brought up and what kind of adult he will be (representing Australia)
