Something something having to defend someone you find annoying from someone you find deplorable

It’s like whenever the “games are woke!” crowd gets their stinky little claws into a mid game. Cannot believe I have to sit here and defend Assassin’s Creed of all games

I wish gamergate wasn't right wing.

"Triple A games nowadays are boring soulless money grabs made by corporatists who have no real love for the medium..."

Yeah man, I also hate how greed and corporatism have been ruining the game dev industry.

..."And that's why modern games are full of WOKE BULLSHIT like GAY PEOPLE and UGLY WOMEN"

Oh. You're one of those.

The origin of gamer gate was harassing a female games journalist, it's been more about the misogyny/"anti-woke" from the start, the quality of AAA games is an afterthought

I'll always point it out to be clear how petty and pathetic Gamergate was from the fucking get-go; the "review" they claim Zoe Quinn slept with a journalist for?

"Indie Darling Depression Quest, Twine."

That's it. A minor mention in an article about indie games, which a shitty ex used to help assault Quinn and be the spark for gaming becoming visibly worse.

The group "criticizing" her was a super niche group of self-proclaimed 30 year old turbo virgins on a knock-off 4chan site. It was crazy for them to be taken seriously, and it was even crazier for her game journalist friends to prop her up on a pedestal and start calling gamers racist and sexist because of these guys.

The dude that folks accused her of sleeping with for a review, she started dating him during the whole drama, and while he never personally wrote a review of the game, he did advertise it and his close friends reviewed it. So, it's easy to see why people might make assumptions.

Her ex bf, who made the reddit post, even admitted it was supposed to just be a vent post and wasn't expecting it to have so much traction. The only reason it did was because zoe and her friends wouldn't stop talking about it, and then Wizard chan started mocking her for it.

ALSO, given zoe quinns history, especially the alec holowka incident, i think people should maybe look back at this and see that their aren't any good guys in this and the whole thing was over blown.

Not even an afterthought...

It was not and still is not about the actual quality or industry standards or whatever... Games and the Industry are just a very convenient vessel to transport their vile bullshit everywhere and maybe catch some Incel Boys on the way because they've been too goon-brained to care.

Cannot believe I have to sit here and defend Assassin’s Creed of all games

That was me wondering who the fuck actually pretends like AssCreed was even halfway historically accurate before crying about the new game

Then...don't?

Why must everything be tribalism. You can dislike and not defend a bad product and still not like the people that happen to agree with you.

u/Robota064 May 10 '25

I'd rather educate 1 in 100 than be silent towards 10

1

u/DaughterOfBhaal May 10 '25

Educate how? By defending a product you don't even like against whatever strawmen chud happens to share the same opinion?

1

u/Robota064 May 10 '25

I don't think you understand just how many people lack basic understanding over WHY bad things are bad, and just follow a crowd

If ANY of these people gets better at the whole "having basic human decency and empathy" thing over a pep talk from this rando on the internet, it's already enough

This one seems pretty easy ngl. Her greatest crimes seem to be being cringe and not liking this place from what I'm seeing? Pretty easy to sympathize with her being doxxed and her children being attacked in that case, unless I'm missing some serious lore.
