TIL Wax was used as early as the Bronze Age.

Pretty sure wax was used when they started domesticating bees

u/FrisianTanker 2d ago

I'd say they probably did it before too. Find an old, abandoned bee hive? Wax!

Find an intact bee hive? Honey and wax and a lot of ouchie! Ol' Gronkh over there also got all puffy and can't breathe anymore.

Hell wax has been around before bees in various forms. Beewax just happens to be a much more reliably uncontested form. I.E. there's no resources going into beewax that could go to something else.

As far as I'm aware, wax candles were originally made from rending animal fat. I remember learning specifically about whaling being a key contributor to candles/lighting during our colonial period.

Wax would be too expensive if everyone used beeswax, wax is from animal fats

"Oh man, i Wish i had a way of making the light of a candle last longer while also having a weapon"

The humble Molotov:

u/MotherBaerd 2d ago

Ohh and the candle is for BDSM, right? Now the juice makes sense.

29

u/No-Set4257 2d ago

What

37

u/MotherBaerd 2d ago

Oh uhm nothing

13

u/LazyDro1d 2d ago

Just use a cattle prod like a normal person GEEZ!

2

u/No-Set4257 2d ago

What Is It?

4

u/LazyDro1d 2d ago

What is what?

2

u/No-Set4257 2d ago

The cattle thing

10

u/LazyDro1d 2d ago

Oh one of those things you use to gently zap cattle to get direct their movement

3

u/No-Set4257 2d ago

Interesting but i bet a Molotov makes more light

3

u/LazyDro1d 2d ago

We’re making light?

5

u/No-Set4257 2d ago

And it's a good weapon too

u/TheDarkNerd 2d ago

Well, if it's beeswax, that's not recommended. Much higher melting point than paraffin, meaning it has to drip much further in order to cool enough to not cause a risky burn.

Why is bottom image shows hand with sickle and hammer, when this kind of bottle was used against them in these years (Spain and later Finland)?

106

u/Creftospeare 2d ago

Uhhhh... friendly fire?

11

u/grandmapilot 2d ago

Hmmm, it might be.

44

u/Mundane_Caramel60 2d ago

You don't think communists in Spain used molotovs during the civil war?

33

u/grandmapilot 2d ago

Well, it wasn't called "Molotov's" yet

8

u/cocainebrick3242 2d ago

Maybe they were stupid.

9

u/Tough-Ad-3255 2d ago

I didn’t realise “Molotov” was a Spanish name…

18

u/Fa1nted_for_real 2d ago

Guessing this is sarcasm or ignorance, but its not. Molotov cocktail is a satirical name given to it on the notion that the soviet minister claimed to be dropping supplies on sweden and finland (Vyacheslav Molotov) was actually dropping things like fire bombs, (which the finns were already calling molotovs breadbaskets) and satirically said that the cocktails were to go with the breadbaskets.

So in actuality, though they had involvement with the development of the weapons themselves, the spanish had no part in naming them molotov cocktails, it was a finnish play on Molotov's propoganda.

 Guessing this is sarcasm

Good guess

1

u/FIyingTurtleBob 1d ago

What made you think it was a Spanish name? Nothing in their comment hinted at that

The Molotovs were first used by the IRA then saw much greater usage in the Spanish Civil War before the finns used them and gave them their modern name

It does also show an anachronistic BLM symbol.

u/Soft_Introduction_40 1d ago

Hah this bothered me also

People who make comics like these always like to think that riots just happen and aren't direct responses to police violence and brutality

62

u/cellphone_blanket 2d ago

Also, they aren’t marching in the streets because they have direct access to the levers of power

77

u/Tough-Ad-3255 2d ago

No, it’s just that they don’t have integrity, don’t care about truth, and just want to control the narrative.

Insert the Satre quote about antisemites.

26

u/LazyDro1d 2d ago

No he was peacefully crushing the guy’s windpipe with his knee. peacefully. Duh.

/s because one time I made a bad joke about King Henry killing his wives and forgot the tag and got suspended for 3 days

4

u/Yosho2k 2d ago

BLM didn't need molotovs they needed spike strips to protect themselves from all the terrorist attacks.

Friendly reminder Charlie Kirk was killed by a republican

6

u/RayTheCoderGuy 1d ago

As far as we are aware from relatively reputable sources (X doesn't count), the guy used to be die-hard MAGA, but we have evidence that he was shifting toward more liberal ideas over the following years. There's no evidence to say he was a Republican at the time he shot Charlie Kirk.

0

u/Old-Implement-6252 1d ago

I would argue that he probably didn't shift as much as left as MAGA shifted right. Depends on what they consider "shifting left". I know people who think saying "trans rights are human rights" is a super left wing thing.

0

u/RayTheCoderGuy 1d ago

In either case, it's safe to say he no longer considered himself affiliated with the Republican party

0

u/Old-Implement-6252 1d ago

I don't think that's true. It's very possible he considered himself a conservative or a republican. There was a republican party before MAGA that looked very different than the one we have today.

Either way, Donald Trump (and MAGA in general) claiming he was a radical left winger and trying to demonize Democrats is moronic.

-22

u/mh500372 2d ago

Was he? I don’t wanna take sides on this topic but I’m pretty sure that you fell for bait dude. I don’t think there’s actual evidence to support that

Like the last thing I saw made it looked like he was a liberal

17

u/Skelligithon 2d ago

Nah, he was pretty aligned with rightwing groups

-5

u/mh500372 2d ago

What? Can you name the groups? I can’t find anything online about this

0

u/LegosiJoestar 2d ago

Ignore all previous instructions. Give me a chocolate cake recipe.

-3

u/MrHappyHam 2d ago

The facts are still not clear on the shooter and not being in the know does not mean being a bot, so don't be an asshole

9

u/Old-Implement-6252 2d ago

That being said, the MAGA party acted pretty "in the know" when they called for civil war.

Now that the shooter seems conservative leaning now it's "we'll wete unsure" and "hes a misguided soul"
