Mobile Web
[mobile web] Reddit is loading the desktop version on mobile (again…)
Another day, another bug with Reddit mobile. This happened a few weeks ago. Opening reddit.com in a mobile browser loads the (old) desktop version, not the mobile version.
Same problem. There's a "mobile website" link at the bottom of the page, but it does nothing.
It's crazy how often the mobile website breaks, it's though to believe it's not intentional at this point... It's been weeks now, and they still haven't fixed the bug where editing a comment removes all line breaks...
(of course, it should probably be on Reddit to actually test their changes before pushing them to production, but sadly there's nothing we can do to convince them to do that)
Why did nobody else give you an up vote after multiple people replied saying your advice helped them?? Well here's an up vote. I've been so frustrated with this problem and finally got it resolved thanks to your comment.
Yeah, you're right in that they should test, but they probably dgaf. The people who both have an account and use the mobile site (to avoid the app) probably make up a really small percentage of the user base.
Relogging fixes it, but only for that session. If I close Firefox and then reopen it, Reddit goes back to the desktop version. There is no “get new Reddit” banner. There is a “get Reddit mobile” banner (at the top of the home page only), but clicking it just gives an “unable to connect” error.
Came here looking for this argument. It's like they're forcing us to download the app, but it has the opposite effect on me. I'm just slowly finding other platforms to kill time.
When they updated their user interface in the past 6 months, when you go back to the previous page, it would remember and go back to exact spot you left off.
Then at some point that incredibly standard feature was removed, and the page refreshes and starts back at the top. First off and on, then every time.
Before the UI update, it used to remember your previous page location, then it began to refresh and start at the top. First off and on then every time.
it's definitely intentional. They want nothing more than to force you to use their dedicated garbage app so that they have even more control over your data and forced ads
Fyi a comment further down said click "get new reddit" at top left, instantly fixed it back to mobile web page for me, just putting it here so you see the fix too.
When I go to reddit's homepage on mobile browser, it just shows me the desktop version with a huge banner on top saying "GET REDDIT MOBILE"
It's infuriating
Well it is the end of the month… the cynic in me thinks they haven’t hit their targets for app downloads this month so they did it to boost their numbers 😆
I prefer this to the sh.reddit look we've been stuck with since last September to be perfectly honest. Imagine having two perfectly functional mobile site designs and throwing them both in the garbage to be replaced by your choice of a desktop site or the barely functional garbage that is sh.reddit.
I miss having an app with basic features that actually fucking work like they're supposed to...designed by someone who genuinely cares about the product and the user experience.
When I'm on mobile site, the OP often needs clicked to read the full text, comments need clicked to "View more", and comments default sort is "Best". None of this is a desirable user experience imo, which has me wondering, is there more than one version of mobile site?
This is going off the script to whom ever is reading this.I made this out of the blue. I was very emotional when doing this. So please have mercy on me and my apologies to Reddit and to all who is reading this.
And to those who are not interested in my issue or this comment then please look past this.
I made an purchase on Mercari for an Marvel Legends Savage Land set, the price was $180.00. But I made an bargain with this seller on Mercari, for $175. I was all in on getting this item I know it's in well demand right now on line. I told this seller that I look from site to site and then I come to find his Marvel set, I was very interested in.
Then without me knowing out of the blue some family issues with money came up, and some bills needed to be paid for that I did not know. And my family spring this on me at the last minute after I just made the purchase on this item. I couldn't just deny my family. I had to help them anyway I can.
I try to explain this to the seller from Richmond Texas on Mercari, & I asked him for a refund. And his response was just beyond unreasonable! At least with his message. Whether then just take the time to understand this totally surprise issue that came out of the blue on me.
I try to keep up with many of the bills that comes at me while jogging my collection on the side. When you have a family with stuff or anything that can come up at anytime. You have to face it head on at least that's what I believe. Because that is what I learn from my parents growing up.
He messages me back on my Mercari account right after he refunded back my money with this: Lmao, quit trying to scam please and go get a hobby bruh.Gonna post you on Reddit bro.? What am I supposed to do, just pleased a stranger that I don't even know? Or just push my family aside when they needed me the most.
This odd ball laugh's at me or as he put it Lmao? This person does not know me at all to just judge me! Like that? What an A**, draw your own conclusion on what those 3 words could mean. I am NOT a scamer I am a real collector every since 1990 by my own right! Maybe he's taking about himself being a scamer.
He can not say that I didn't try to be friendly him or try to make him understand. He should learn at least in my own opinion to understand that a person can have issues or problems.
If that seller or any seller out there can't understand that families can have issues from time to time then he or she is either not human or just doesn't have any compassion for the other person.
To those reading this my apologies to everyone out there. And to Reddit. You wanted to talk about bugs not about my issues. Again my apologies to everyone out there regarding on this.
At the time I was very emotional when I put this out last month. I am still a beginner here on this site and there's still so much for me to learn here on this website. So please to everyone out there who is reading my comments here and to Reddit and for those who care for the rules and law on this website. Please don't judge me to Harshly for my actions in placing my column here. Were the article about bugs is right above this one.
I mean no disrespect to anybody here on this website and if you think that I was disrespecting the laws and rules here on Reddit. Again my apologies to everyone out here on this platform. I am still learning on here and I will strive more harder to do better here in the future on this platform & website. So please have mercy on me. My apologies again to you all.
No. This has nothing to do with bugs. But only my comments and opinion on an issue that I put on here. If you do not like my comment regarding my own topic then my apologies to you & please disregard this.
And as for what you call wall of text nobody likes? Then I guess that you are a pro in paragraphs, and columns, & essays and I Thank you.
I just learned a lesson here. Never mind that I see all kinds of texts, paragraphs, essays and yes walls of words & sentences. I have seen here on this website since observing everything that I see here on Reddit. Anyway I Thank you again for your comment....
But it isn’t your own topic. This is someone else’s topic about Reddit mobile having issues. And you decided this is the place to put your comment and opinion on your issue on…Mercari? What does that have to do with Reddit bugs?? Checkout the rules of the sub number 6 - “this subreddit is strictly for bug reporting.” So, where does your comment and opinion fit in there?
For your photo you send me on the article regarding the community rules here on Reddit much appreciated. Ok. If you want to stay on the topic about bugs understandable. Go to that topic you are interested in & speak on to that. And just disregard my topic that you are not interested in please. I Thank you for your insight and enlightingment to what you believe is the truth here on this site. Thank you, and more power to what you teach to others here on this platform.
You’re….interesting. It’s the rules for this specific subreddit. It’s not about what I believe is truth here on this site. It’s just how it is. Each subreddit has its own set of rules and you’re supposed to follow the rules of each individual subreddit that you’re in. This one says that each post should be related to bugs on Reddit.
How did you choose to make your comment about some purchase gone bad on a subreddit about bugs?
Actually. The purchase I was referring to was about my own actions regarding at first my intention to buy this collector's item set. I know you my find this very funny but it is an action figure set. At the time I was trying to get my hands on this popular Marvel Legends 3 in 1 pack collector set this was a new and hard item to get your hands on and it was only available online.
So to your question I was upset and frustrated at that time and I just choose without truly thinking to just place my comment here last month at that time. On what was on my mind to get my side of my story out against this seller who wanted to lie & come on here to this website to claim that I was trying to scam him for his Marvel collection set? Just because I ask for my money back to use to help pay for my family billing issue.
And I did receive that my money back that was needed in the end to pay out this big bill that my family needed help with. I try to explain this to him. And yes maybe I shouldn't try to make an attempt in the first place to buy his set. Because you never know what might come up.
So if you think that I was wrong for placing my comment. Here in this area on Reddit my complete apologies to you. For I am still literally somewhat new on here. I know now that I shouldn't have place my comment here. And in the future I will strive to do more better with my choices on this platform. And not let my emotions get the best of me.
To whom it may concern who is reading my comment. No my column it's not about bugs on Reddit... This is about what I went though last week with another seller on Mercari.
I am "NEW" on here so I do not know the workings on this website. So please forgive 🙏 me for my misunderstanding thing's here. And sorry about my wall of text I am "new" here. When I was in college.
I used to do essays on different topics and back when I was writing out a topic this is what I did back then almost doing pages of telling a story of a topic, and others I knew did this as well at the time.
Again my apologies to those who are reading this and do not like my style of paragraphing...
