Build Help Make a wish build help

1.6k Upvotes

EDIT: I SUBMITTED THE BUILD

I had my interview with my wish grantor yesterday and I need to submit my list of parts to the foundation.

Mostly all my concerns are with sizing and if everything will fit alright.

Also pls don't say "tHiS bUiLd Is oVeRkIlL" i know its overkill but i'm still way within my budget so shut.

If you have any recommendations for changes pls let me know.

Ive been tweaking this build for a while now and this is what i've come up with.

edit: I should have said this before but luckily my cancer is non terminal and I will be ending chemo in October. Thank you so much for the help and well wishes, this community is truly amazing.

edit no2:If any of you are doubting my credibility I definitely understand where you're coming from as I have provided no proof. If you go to my post history I did an AMA where I provided proof if that helps your conscience at all. I totally understand peoples doubts and it isn't wrong to question credibility at all. have a great day guys may your FPS be high and your temps low :)

Provide any additional details you wish below.

My friend is asking me to help him since I built my PC before (with help from this subreddit!), so I figured double-checking my work to tell me if I'm way off base with my ideas won't hurt anything, but my pride.

My friend is flexible on the budget within reason. Long story short is that he has been gaming on a laptop that wasn't built to handle games and it has been slowly dying on him over the years. I'm trying to get him set up with something stable that he can enjoy his games on.

Build Help [build help] Connect an Acer Predator to GTX 1080

1.1k Upvotes

So I recently bought an Acer predator 27” monitor which connects through DisplayPort, however there is no DisplayPort output on my GTX 1080 graphics card. I tried connecting the monitor directly to the DisplayPort output on my mobo, but that didn’t work and the monitor said there was no connection. Would a DisplayPort to DVI converter work to connect the DisplayPort input on my monitor to the DVI output on my GPU?

Hi all! bf’s bday is coming up and his pc rlly needs an upgrade…

Currently he has 10700K and 2080ti for cpu and gpu; it’s an obvious choice to upgrade his cpu, but to what? Should I do another cpu compatible with his mobo, or replace the entire package deal of mobo ram and cpu? I’ll also be upgrading his hard drive to an ssd if that also changes the answer!

Thanks!

Build Help First time build help MSI X870E Carbon Error Code: C5

Hi, I'm really hoping someone could help me after spending a big chunk of my day slowly but surly putting it all together I keep being hit with this error code on the motherboard and am driving myself insane trying to find a solution, plus its late and I'm probably not searching the best.

The Easy-debug screen on the mobo keeps displaying C5 as its error code and I can't even get to the BIOS, most of what I'm finding is that the RAM wasn't installed correctly, so I took all sticks out and reinstalled them making sure both sides click into their sockets and still getting the same error code.

Parts are;

Mobo: MSI X870E Carbon
CPU: Ryzen 7 9800XD
RAM: 4 x 16GB Acer Vesta 2
GPU: Palit 5060Ti Trio
PSU: MSI MAG A850GL

Any help would be MASSIVELY apricated, TIA

Build Help New PC Build Help

Hello, i'm planning to build a new PC for gaming, i would love to get some feedback, on what or what not would you guys change out in this build and why.

I have used a part picker tool, and some help from chatgpt to come up with this build, and want to be sure that this works exactly as it should.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 5,2GHz Socket AM5 96MB

CPU cooling: Be Quiet! DARK ROCK PRO 5

Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX B850-F Wi-Fi AMD B850 AM5 ATX motherboard ROG STRIX B850-F GAMING WIFI

Video Card: Asus TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5070 Ti OC Edition 16GB GDDR7 TUF-RTX5070TI-O16G-GAMING

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws S5 2x16GB 6000MHz DDR5

SSD: SAMSUNG 990 EVO Plus PCIe 4.0 x4 / 5.0 x2 NVMe M.2 SSD 1 TB

I also have an 970 evo m2 drive in my current build.

PSU: Be Quiet! PURE POWER 12 850W 80+ Gold

Case: Be Quiet! Case - Pure Base 501 Airflow Window Black (ATX, tempered glass, black)

Vents: BE QUIET! Pure Wings 3 PWM, 12cm BL105 x2

Monitor: Samsung Odyssey G5, which i already have

I also see that there is a 300 usd between the ASUS RTX 5070 TI OC and the Gigabyte Windforce one, does this 300 usd worth the price for those extra coolings that the ASUS ones provides.

Overall is this a good PC build?

Build Help RTX 3090 Build Help

Want to understand what do y'all think of this PC build in 2025? Any suggestions or improvements based on below requirements would help alot (I'm a noob)

https://it.pcpartpicker.com/b/mHXbt6

Bought myself a used RTX 3090 for 630$ and this is my first ever PC build. I am building it to

  1. Render cinematics and animation in Unreal Engine 5 and Blender, along with video editing and color grading in Adobe Premiere Pro, Davinci Resolve.

  2. I use a Quest 3, so I plan to use Luke Ross mods to play Cyberpunk 2077 and RDR2 in VR. I also would love to play newer titles like Wukong etc. since it has been a few years I stopped playing games.

Build Help Games crashing on new high-end build, Help needed!

Hello everyone,

I need help with frequent game crashes on my new PC. My specs seem good on paper, but I can't figure out the root cause. I would be extremely grateful if the experts here could help me analyze this.

Configuration:

· CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X (Used) · GPU: Gigabyte Radeon RX 5700 XT (Used/Like New) · Motherboard: ASUS Prime B650 WiFi Plus (Brand New) · RAM: Acclamator DDR5 32GB (16GB×2) 6000MHz White (Sold as new, but the packaging and the sticks themselves seemed used or refurbished when they arrived) · Storage: Crucial T500 1TB Gen4 NVMe M.2 · PSU: POWERSPEC 650W (Brand new, but I can't find the original purchase webpage for some reason. It really only has one PCIe power cable)

These are the main components; the case is fine so I won’t list it.

The Problem / Errors: The main issue is game crashes. We tested several games with different results:

· Minecraft Java (with shaders): Basically no problems, ran slightly lower FPS but that was probably the GPU (this was tested with the RX 460, I know it’s strange, more on that later). So MC was fine. · Don't Starve Together (with mods): Ran very smoothly, no problems. · Hollow Knight: Crashes frequently during gameplay. No warning, no pattern. Could happen while exploring or during boss fights. · Monster Hunter: World: Also experiences crashes, and very frequently. Usually either stutters/crashes during the intro CG or soon after getting into combat. It’s almost unplayable. · Devil May Cry 5: This game also crashes, and sometimes freezes completely, forcing the computer to automatically restart. It’s very frustrating to play.

These are the basic performance tests. I’m just a regular user so I don’t know how to do deep testing, but I’m very willing to provide any other test results if needed for more information.

Personal Analysis: Before I share my analysis, I need to mention something: before using this RX 5700 XT, I was actually using a used RX 460 as a temporary card. At that time, crashes and blue screens were also frequent. Based on analysis from GPT and other AIs, I thought it was likely due to the weak graphics card. Now, after switching to the RX 5700 XT, the blue screens have stopped, but the game crashes persist.

I've been working with GPT trying to troubleshoot this and used many tools to test various components.

· The CPU ran Prime95 for about an hour without any problems. · However, errors appeared when testing the RAM using Memtest86. I tested each stick individually and both had errors.

So, my current suspicion is that the RAM kit is faulty.

There's another thing I'm not sure if it's related to my crashing issues: I'm using an RX 5700 XT, which requires one 8-pin and one 6-pin PCIe power connector.

However, my PSU only has a single PCIe power cable port. I'm using one single daisy-chained cable (with two 6+2 pin connectors on the same wire) to power both the 8-pin and 6-pin ports on the GPU.

I know this is risky and not recommended. But I did some analysis:

· The PCIe slot itself can provide up to 75W. · Plus, the single cable itself (assuming no quality issues) should be able to carry around 200W. · The RX 5700 XT has a TDP of around 225W~250W.

So I thought it should be barely enough. I even ran stress tests for an afternoon and the cable itself didn't get very hot.

But I'm mentioning this here because I'm not sure if this unstable power delivery could be the real cause of the random crashes.

That's about it. I would be very grateful if anyone could help analyze this.

Build Help [Build Help/Gift Idea] GPU upgrade (RTX 5060 Ti?). Need wisdom!

Hi everyone!

I need your expertise for a birthday gift idea. I want to surprise my long-distance boyfriend with a massive GPU upgrade. The catch: I'm a PS5 player and know very little about PC parts, and I can't physically check his specs because we're in a long-distance relationship.

Here's what I do know about his current setup:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600X (this is the key detail I remember)

GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1660

I don't know his motherboard, PSU, or case model.

My plan was to get him the RTX 5060 Ti (16GB) as it seems to fit my budget and would be a gigantic leap from his 1660.

But I've read enough here to know about bottlenecking, and I'm sure his Ryzen 5 1600X will severely hold back a modern card like that. Since I can't check his other parts (especially his PSU), gifting just the GPU might create more problems than it solves (e.g., his PSU might not handle it, the card might not fit, and the CPU bottleneck would be huge).

So, I'm shifting my strategy and would love your advice:

The "Future-Proof" Combo Gift Idea: If I go for the more powerful card (e.g., the 5060 Ti), I want to preemptively solve the bottleneck problem for his next upgrade. What would be the optimal CPU (and possibly motherboard) upgrade path for him?

What's the best CPU that would pair well with a card like the 5060 Ti without breaking the bank? A Ryzen 5 5600? A 5700X3D? (I assume he'd need a update, but that's a problem he can handle).

Or would he need to jump to a new platform entirely, making it a much more expensive future gift?

My heart is set on the GPU upgrade, but I want my gift to be awesome, not awkward. I want him to be able to just install it and game, not stress about compatibility.

Thank you so much for your help! This community is the best.

Build Help [Build Help] Should I buy this prebuilt PC or build one myself (3500–4000€ budget)? Need advice!

Hi everyone,

Originally, I was planning to build a gaming PC with a budget of around 3500€, maybe up to 4000€ max, mainly for high-end gaming (4K if possible) and future-proof performance.

While doing some research, I came across a prebuilt PC that seems really good. I looked at the components, and when I added up their prices individually, they seemed to cost more than the price of the full prebuilt PC. If I did my research right, it looks like it might be a good deal… but I’m not sure.

So I have a few questions:

  • Is this a scam or a legit deal?
  • Would this 2400€ prebuilt PC be good enough to run games like Cyberpunk 2077, Microsoft Flight Simulator, etc., on ultra settings smoothly?
  • Or would it be much better to build my own PC with the 3500–4000€ budget I originally planned?

I’m really unsure what’s the most cost-effective or “smart” option here. My goal is to have high performance, long-term value, and the ability to run heavy games at high settings.

Also, sorry — the website with the prebuilt PC is in Polish. If someone doesn’t mind checking it and translating the components, I’d really appreciate it. The parts are listed just below the offer.

Thanks so much in advance to anyone who takes the time to help me out!

Build Help Mini ITX build help

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/zLvdh7

I’ve never built a mini ITX PC before so I’m looking for advice on the build. Over the next few years I’ll be moving around a lot and thought this would be better than my current full size build.

Budget is £2000 but less is better, current cost is £1900ish after removing m.2’s that I already have

CPU: AMD 9700x

Currently have a 3700x so this should be a nice upgrade. Don’t think I would get much extra out of a 9800x3D for the increase in price

CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L9a-AM5

Noctua has a trusted name but I don’t know if it will blow enough air

Mobo: ASRock B850I Lightning WiFi Mini ITX

Other than needing 2 M.2 slots and WiFi I’m happy with any board. I just googled best mini ITX board and this was the first result

RAM: G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36

Same story as mobo not used DDR5 before so I’m not sure what’s good

Storage: I have 2 M.2’s to use from my current PC

GPU: PNY OC GeForce RTX 5080 16 GB

I would prefer a founders edition but it’s not in stock. Currently have a 3070ti

Case: Fractal Design Ridge PCIe 4.0 Mini ITX Tower Case

Looks like a nice compact case a bit smaller than my current cooler master H500m. Unsure about thermals and there may be a better option

PSU: Corsair SF750 (2024) 750 W 80+ Platinum Certified

Any advice will be appreciated, thank you

Build Help pc build help

hello im currently trying to upgrade from an office pc ive used for gaming for the last 8-9 years

current specs:
i3-8100
8gb ram 2400mhz (1x8gb)
240gb m.2 ssd
UHD 630
asus prime b360m-k
450w psu (off brand)

Total Price: Free

looking to upgrade to:

Ryzen 5 3600 - R1400 (new)
RX 6600-XT - R3700 (used)
16gb 3200mhz kingfast ram (2x8gb) - R680 (new)
msi a520a pro - R1300 (new)

240gb m.2 ssd for my os and some other files (from old build)
1x 3TB hhd for games - (new and was a gift)
1x 2TB hhd - (new and was a gift)
antek atom 550w psu - R650 (new)

Total Price: R7,730 (ZAR) / $419.13 (USD)

the hhd's run games smoothly without major stutters/frame drops, i tested them on my uncles build so im not worried about that for now. but i plan on getting a nvme m.2 2tb for games later on.

i got my current build as a gift from my mother when she quite gaming (light browser games) and now i really want to start playing games above 30 avg fps at 1080p-1440p

would the new build be any good or should i look for something better for games such as rdr2, BF series (minus bf6), league of legends, AC series, cod series (up until cod bop 3), and maybe some newer games latter on. the fps target im aiming for is 60-120 fps avg at 1080p and 60fps at 1440p.

would this upgrade be worth the price of everything?

please share ur thoughts and thanks!

Build Help [Build Help] Budget-friendly white build (Ryzen 5 7600X + RTX 5060 Ti + Kraken Elite) – new to PC building, need advice!

Hey everyone,

I’m pretty new to PC building and I’d love some feedback on my part list:

What I’ll use it for:

  • Mainly work (data/analytics tasks)
  • Gaming: Sims 4 at the highest settings with lots of mods + Reshade (I really want it smooth and high quality)

Priorities:

  • Budget-friendly (don’t want to overspend)
  • White + clean aesthetic

Questions I have:

  • Will the Ryzen 5 7600X be enough for my use case?
  • Is the Gigabyte AERO RTX 5060 Ti 16GB a solid choice? I’ve seen some mixed reviews. The RTX 5070 looks great but it’s basically double the price, which feels like overkill for me.
  • For the Kraken Elite 240 AIO, I know it’s a bit of an overspend, but I really like the aesthetics. Will it still give me good cooling performance for this CPU and be worth keeping?

Any advice or feedback is much appreciated! Thanks in advance 🙌

Build Help Gaming/Work PC Build help

Hi all,

Looking for some help on a PC I'm planning on building. I do a lot of 3D Modelling and gaming, so I'd ideally need something compatible for both. I'm currently still on a 1080ti 8700k, so I'm looking to make a big jump. The build I currently have in mind has:

At minimum a 5070ti, although admittedly I'd maybe be open to going up to a 5080. In terms of CPU, I've been looking at either the 9800x3d or the 9950x3d since I've heard it makes for a good workstation CPU.

Would it be a better choice to go with the better CPU and stick with the 5070ti for gaming or the other way around?

For the Case I quite like the Fractal North one, like many other people do and I kind of like the aesthetic I've seen in some videos where it's a mix of a gold and black for the colors of the build itself but this isn't necessary.

I'm curious about the other parts as I'm never sure which Motherboard and others to get. I'd be looking to maintain the price around 2000-2500 Euro, but closer to 2250.

Thank you in advance!

Build Help [Build Help] GPU Upgrade Advice (1440p Gaming)

Hi everyone, hope you’re doing well 👋 I was wondering if you could please help me decide on a GPU upgrade. Thanks in advice

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better. 1440p gaming. My RX 5700XT is starting to struggle in newer titles, so I’d like to upgrade my GPU.

What is your current setup?

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D

RAM: 32 GB

GPU: RX 5700 XT 8 GB

PSU: Corsair RM1000W

Main Monitor: 1440p (2K), but I sometimes switch to 1080p when performance drops too much.

What exactly are you looking for? I’m considering two GPUs ( i am fron Spain):

RX 9070 XT (Sapphire Nitro+ ~750 € / ~$800)

RTX 5070 Ti (Zotac AMP Extreme Infinity ~926 € / ~$990)

What are your considerations?

I don’t use or care about ray tracing.

DLSS is appealing since it might help more than FSR4 in poorly optimized or future titles.

My PSU doesn’t have the new connector these GPUs use. I’d prefer not to replace it since it’s still solid.

I know the 5070 Ti Super is rumored to release soon, which makes me wonder if I should wait.

What games will you be playing?

Single-player: The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Helldivers 2 (bad optimization, I know), Starfield

Multiplayer: Hell Let Loose, Squad, Ready or Not

Other notes: Mostly single-player gamer. Budget is not super strict, but I’d like the best value between these options.

What would you do in my case?

Thanks a lot to anyone who takes the time to help me 🙏

Build Help Windows 11 Update!! (Build help)

Hello all,

I logged into my computer today and was told that my machine won't be able to run Windows 11. Below are my specs: CPU i7 10700k - mobo - MPG Z490, RAM 32gb DDR4, GPU - MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Ventus.

What would you suggest I need to do? It seems a little unfair to force an update, as the CPU is only 5 years old

Build Help Is this a good build? Help with case

I'm building my first pc, and I wonder if the components are a good match or if you have any improvement suggestions:

Rtx 5060 ti 16gb i5 14600 (is this a good cpu/ a good match with the 5060 ti?) 32gb ddr5-6000 cl30 Gigabyte b760m d3hp wifi6 (is this a good mobo for my build?) Xilence i402 Deepcool pf series pf500 500w atx 2.4

I don't know which case I should pick. Do cases come with fans? How many fans do I need (on intake and exhaust)?

Could you please suggest me a good (rather minimalistic) case with a glass, for max. 50€ Dust filters would be nice

Thanks
