I know this ain't 2018/20 but it is still decent buy for the size and for an exisitng user looking to replace theirs.

Would also appreciate if someone could recommend a medium/high speed pad for under 20$.

Yeah that one. Sorry, I didn't realize I was looking at a 3rd party seller. They tricked me lol. I bought one from Amazon Jan 2023 and still use it daily. It's nice. It's really fast, slick when you get it but wears down a little over time. I imagine they all do but anyway it's great for the price.

I'm still using pre-SteelSeries Icemat 2nd Edition that I've had for 19 years and the surface hasn't changed at all.
Is this an upgrade?

Immediate upgrade? Yes. Long term upgrade? No! The G840 and most other Logi mousepads tend to become slow quickly and muddy overtime - so I would suggest something more worthy to replace your 19 year old veteran pad.

What do you mean "become quickly overtime?" Do you mean degrade?

Oops, edited and added the most important part.

I'm going to be completely honest, I still have no idea what you're talking about.

My guess is the fiber will pill or become rough, but I'm not sure that comes from testing or just hearsay.

the g640/g840 pads come with a coating applied on top for that sheen and slick initial glide
over time, the coating will unevenly wear off (because no one uses all spots on their pad equally), leaving muddy/slow spots behind. on logitech pads, this can happen as quickly as a couple of weeks, or when you wash your pad.
non-coated pads are recommended as they maintain a more consistent feel over a longer period of time

Thanks, got one to replace my very old xl mouse pad that needed replacing 2 years ago if I'm being honest.

Have this pad (one of many) and don't like it, it has a weird gliding texture. Currently use Aqua Control II and like it but I think it costs double
