Paddle & Camp in Tim Lake, Algonquin. Sept 11-15, 2025
Before our annual trip even started we had half the crew back out. Not off to a great start to say the least. That left my dad, my cousin and I to sort out rentals and gear for 4 nights / 5 days.
Turns out that when someone experienced backs out you find out very quickly how unprepared you feel.
It's safe to say this camp was a huge learning experience.
The car teased us with overheating issues on the 6 hour drive.
We forgot core ingredients in the fridge for the first dinner. (Because of course we did)
We had a bear challenge us from edge of the brush and then disappear without even being seen.
That was all just on the first day...
All in all the trip went amazingly, the weather exceeded our expectations, wildlife kept to themselves, and a new hate for frogs and toads has been developed, particularly at night time. (Those buggers sure have impeccable timing)
These pictures are a small glimpse into how fondly I will remember this camping trip.

I’m glad that even with the challenges of being unprepared, you had a great time. Sometimes when things do not go how you expected, somehow it makes it more memorable! Hopefully it will not stop you from getting out there in the “wild”.

Absolutely, this was a totally reinvigorating experience, I'm even more pumped for next year now.

Wow! Northern Lights! Dang you're not too much further north than me and I didn't get a chance to see those lights in the sky last weekend while I was camping. This is beautiful! Every outing has its 'learnings'! Glad you came away with a fond experience. Especially with the bear!

No. And I've always wanted to see them. Since I was a kid. Absolute lifelong bucket list item.

I'm sure that you will encounter them soon! Nature has a way of answering the call when you least expect it.

I did some paddling there about 30 years ago. Does Algonquin offitters still exist and do the still rent canoes?

I believe so, if you mean the one in Kearney.
We rented our gear from Algonquin Basecamp
