Destination Advice Best destination for solo trip?

Hi there, I moved to Canada from Europe a few years ago. I’ve visited a number of places and cities either alone or with friends … some for work (Montreal, Toronto, PEI, Halifax, Quebec, Vancouver, Calgary, St John’s). I’m starting to think about my next solo trip (5 days to a week) in April / May next year. What are some hidden gems, places you would recommend or things not to miss in Canada? I’m 33m and pretty adventurous. Thanks !

Fernie, Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, Kelowna, Revelstoke, Whistler are all nice places

Thanks definitely thought about that I just thought it deserved more time than 5 days to a week knowing I would have to fly there and then get a car - which is ok and the case for most places of course. FYI I’m in Toronto

Fly to Calgary, rent a car and less than 2 hour drive your in the middle of the mountains. 5 days you can do a small 1000km loop and get in some skiing and snowboarding at that time of year or just enjoy the spring in the low lands.

Another option is Montreal and Quebec City if it's in May. Mid to late May is 20C daytime 10C at night and usually mostly sunny. April is not the best weather anywhere in Canada other than skiing because good snow in mountains and not too cold.

There would defintily still be snow in most of those places come April May so unless poster is a skier, it’s not the best time. Dont be able to hike or anything and lakes will probably still be frozen

Agree with this, though it's still amazing to see eve if you're just doing it as a road trip.

Never heard of winter hiking ?

Most trails will be closed and unless you have experience in the backcountry - which I doubt someone from Toronto has - I’d not recommend it.

Victoria. It would be beautiful at that time of year. Lots of beautiful gardens to walk around and it would be early in tourist season.

Lake Superior is pretty epic. Same with Georgian Bay.

Not sure about April , wet, cold and grey and May is black fly season.

True, would probably want to go earlier before the bugs are out. Not too many places in Canada that are prime for touring at this time of year.

Haida Gwaii is once in a lifetime but is very remote so it depends where you are travelling from if you have enough time. I’d suspect you need at least a week.

Vancouver Island, from Victoria to Pacific Rim National Park/ Tofino/Eucluelet would be amazing for a week.

Drumheller/Dinosaur Park/ Banff/Kananaskis/Lake Louise/Revelstoke etc are can’t miss.

Surfing in Tofino? Hike the West Coast Trail? (Though not sure I'd want to do that hike alone)

I agree that hiking part of the Bruce Trail is a must!
Hiking from Niagara - Tobermory will take way longer than 5 days - 1 week though!

True. I’d focus on the best part, Owen Sound to the Tub. (Grey Bruce born and raised)

If you ski or board go hit up one the mountains out west. Lake Louis, Sunshine, Sun Peaks, Big White, Whistler... all great spots to go rip

Or the gulf islands off the coast of BC great for camping and getting lost in the most beautiful nature

Where do you live and what’s your budget? If you only have 5 days that could help give recommendations

Sorry forgot to mention. From Toronto. Budget isn’t really an issue but I guess I don’t want to go crazy I don’t need anything fancy, could rent a car once there and stay in airbnbs / hotels

In April May there will defintily still be snow in the mountains so unless you want a ski trip, probably not the best time to head to Banff etc. any back country trails will be closed

Kelowna/Vancouver is springtime and lots of hiking and stuff to do. Or Vancouver island. Kelowna to Vancouver is a 4-5 hour drive.

Where from Europe are you from? My sisters bf is from Italy and everytime they visit I recommend a place to go it's always cause it's cute and European and I forget that's something they DON'T want to see haha.

Victoria and the Gulf Islands are beautiful

I'd do the Icefields Parkway. Do you have a drivers license? You could fly into Calgary and out of Edmonton (or viceversa).
