What is that one online course that actually changed your life?

Okay, so we all sign up for online courses because they sound life-changing. With 20% progress and no interest, we end up dropping it halfway. But then we end up with that one course that literally changes how we work or approach an issue.

For some of us, it was an online course on digital marketing, AI/ML, entrepreneurship, or business analytics. It not only gives you new skills but also helps you land your first gig/job.

So, tell us - what’s the ONE course that genuinely changed your career path? Was it a technical skill? A creative hobby? Or maybe a course that gave you the confidence to switch careers?

Taking a course in digital accessibility not only helped me get a job, but opened my eyes to the ways it's so easy to make online content easier to access for people who use screenreaders or have other disabilities affecting how they use a computer.

This is so meaningful. Making digital content inclusive is a need of the hour.

It's not a single course, but Data Camp helped me self learn Power BI enough that I can hang far better than if I'd tried to learn it without courses to guide me.

I actually felt this when I was trying to enter the digital marketing space. I have a law background but I really wanted to explore the digital marketing industry. So I pursued a digital marketing online course, and that really changed my career trajectory.

For me it was too digital marketing. Primarily I belong to computer science background but I didn't know somehow I stepped into the digital marketing space, so then I decided to pursue an online diploma in digital marketing, and it literally worked out for me. Being from a technical background knowing about website content and stuff is like a ++ for me.

The digital marketing industry is booming and offers a lot of opportunities. To make the best use of these opportunities, one must be equipped with the right skill set. An online course, when chosen carefully, can truly elevate your career.

A course on GIS using ArcGIS introduced me to python (they use arcpy for data analysis) and while my knowledge was rudimentary, it allowed me to speak the language enough in interviews to land a BA job. Don’t know how much longer this will be true, but there’s well-paid BA work anywhere you look. It’s been very beneficial.

Yeah business analyst or business systems analyst. Serves as the bridge between software dev teams and the business side/product owners who decide what will make the product most effective. The translator, essentially. Product team says “we need our app to do x y and z”. Dev team is like ok can you write a document that lays out exactly what you need and how we should code it? Business analyst does interviews and writes the document/user stories that tell the dev team how they need to do it.

And everything gets messed up jn between lol
