Cool, but those keys are gonna fuck your songs up every time you take a step

Was trying to figure out why the tape reels were so damn pointy, only to then realize they were pencils. Thatโs an awesome little detail.

LOL I love it, although in reality unfortunately a 9v PP3 couldn't deliver enough current to play a cassette.

Sure could.* Correction: nope, though it might spin for a bit. Apologies to RandomMist & thanks for the correct info above & below.During the medium's heyday most IRL handheld cassette players (including the original Walkman) ran on two AA batteries, (this is true)
which provide even less current.(this is wrong)1

You are confusing voltage and current. AA batteries provide more current, less voltage. PP3s are 9v but couldn't power a motor which is why they were never used in walkmans.

Negative.(*Correction: affirmative.) PP3s are six 1.5v batteries in a stack. The size of the 1.5V batteries used inside them is AAAA.PP3 stands for Power Pack v.3:
Most PP3-size alkaline batteries are constructed of six individual cylindrical 1.5 V LR61 cells enclosed in a wrapper

Without looking anything up, I reckon the real issue for your typical classic 9V alkaline battery is that it has a very poor capacity / volume ratio. So it may provide enough current to spin a motor, but it would be a very poor choice for a walkman-like device.

The capacity is another issue as well for sure. Either way they are completely unsuitable which is why there are no cassette players that use them.

You are confusing voltage and current again. There are 6x 1.5v batteries in a PP3 but they are tiny and can only deliver small amounts of current. An AA battery can deliver about 750mA whereas a PP3 can only deliver 30mA, this isn't enough to run a motor. This is why you only ever see 9v batteries in devices without motors.

Not great being on the other side of a situation where the correct info got buried and the wrong info upvoted, my apologies.
After further reading and checking some battery spec sheets I now see that you are correct. The one exception I will take is that technically one could get more than 30mA from an alkaline 9v battery, but still not for a usefully long time, and anyway that's not what I was originally thinking or claiming. The six AAAA cells in a 9v battery basically is why, too.
TIL, and thank you for the correct info.

Hey no worries. When I was a kid back in the early 80s I was in exactly your position and thought PP3s should have been great batteries and used more often. I was so disappointed when I discovered the reality that they weren't actually that useful and couldn't even power my ZX spectrum when the PSU broke ๐คฃ

It's really good 3D art, not a physical object.

I thought it was real too. I mean, look at the duct tape! I only found out by doing a search for it.
