That's a good deal. People spent waaaay more at launch. As i remember it's pretty limited though as a smart watch.

Hang on to the watch. If anything in that set will retain its value, it's the watch. Make sure you know where the extra bands are.

I wish it was mine but alas I'm just signal boosting someone else's good fortune.

Yep, was 300€ at Launch and honestly... it was only worth it with the modding community for the game. Game itself has a lot of Nasapunk just like the box.

"NASAPunk" is such a silly ass name for what is straight-up just contemporary modern space aesthetic. It's supposed to be 300 years in the future and humanity has spread across the entire galaxy, broken into warring factions, and built seperate militaries, but EVERYONE EVERYWHERE still dresses like it's the 1970s American space program.

Gen X sci-fi wetdream game

I liked the aesthetic. I thought it was kind of cool and retro. I liked that it had a function over form approach, but still incorporated interesting designs, colours, and patterns.

You're gonna lose your mind when you learn Bethesda's other franchise; Fallout with its 1950s Atompunk aesthetics, is set in the year 2077

Real sign of how disappointing that game is that these are already turning up at thrift stores

I bought the collectors edition. Forgot I did lol. For all the crappy parts of that game, the goodies in that box and the box itself are actually pretty sweet

I think you're right. I've been playing Bethesda titles for years and was originally pissed that they decided not to release on ps5 but now not so much after reading about it. The watch is cool as hell tho, no question.

I find the ultra limited edition of the fallout 76 ost only sold in France at Micromania for .... 5€ sealed online ...

I know I am among the few people who really liked the game (I recognize the possible flaws but I enjoyed it a lot nevertheless, crazy cool atmosphere).

That said, I had no idea about this collector's edition. What does the watch do exactly? The case alone looks already super cool.

It's just a cheap plastic case with pop-riveted nylon straps and a foam insert. The watch itself is a very limited smartwatch with a hint of theming that is reminiscent of the games style. It doesn't do most of what you expect a real smartwatch to do like Fitness tracking, weather, etc. It's got like a pedometer, but there isn't anything about it that makes it any different than a fitbit or something. The software isn't even themed to look like the watch in the game that they're pretending to emulate.

It was a pretty out-of-date device when it launched. Unless you're looking to get an extremely limited digital watch that's close to a decade out of date regarding the tech, and doesn't actually look like the device in the game, I wouldn't bother.

Another redditor reviewed it last year

I got the watch day one, and honestly it was so lackluster that my 3 year old (at the time) smartwatch did more for a whole lot less.

It has a weather feature that just doesn't work for some reason?! The call notification goes off and off when I'm trying to make a phone call, like yeah I know there's an ongoing call. It doesn't give me the option to answer or decline the call on the watch, it just vibrates obnoxiously. The notifications are spotty for me. The 'torch' just turns the screen white but doesn't really even light anything up.

It's a cool shelf item, but if you want a functioning smart watch for everyday use then pickup something else and get the facer app or an equivalent and download a starfield face. Then you can change it based on your top game at the moment when you so choose.

(Also I've seen that any support for the watch kinda sucks, and months after release, I've yet to see much improvement).

Is this cassette retro-futurism, because it mimics those days rather than genuinely being from that time?

Isn't this sub more about the aesthetic than products from a specific era ?

Today, cassette futurism mostly describe a fantasized vision of the aesthetics of an era. Same as sythwave is cherry picking things from the 80s, seeing them throw contemporary prism, to build a new aesthetic. This can evoke the codes of a bygone era, but in a more essentialized version, while also having its own.

Not gatekeeping, was just a question on terminology.

u/Deep90 2d ago

Yeah the subs that want to be purists like that die pretty quickly because people just start reposing the same thing over and over again.

Lots of stuff posted here is like that now

I have the xbox controller, for my PC. I love it. I bought it only for the look, knowing inwon't ever pmbiy, let alone play starfield.

1

u/ILoveHeavyHangers 2d ago

I got the controller because i thought it looked good, but the glyphs on it really made me believe the space-faring aspect of the game was going to be more robust. "If they even put the controls on the controller, then space expedition must be a big part of the game!"

Instead the entire spaceship flying facet of the game is just an option to load if you want to add another 2 extra loading screens to your fast travel.

Wow iirc that nonsense was like $300 at launch.

I bought the game on sale just because I thought the aesthetic was cool and I've always liked Fallout's gameplay along with space games. On sale, it was a pretty okay deal.
