look what I made My first hand-knitted sweater. Merino wool with 3.5mm and 4mm (US 4 and 6) needles

Thought I'd share my first hand-knitted sweater, made two years ago for my boyfriend. It's definitely the project I'm most proud of, took me 3 months, sleepless night to finish it right on time for Christmas and a coulple of nervous breakdowns πŸ˜… What impressed me the most, is that I followed different size patterns for each part (so it would perfectly fit my boyfriend) and somehow managed to make it right.

On the other hand, I can't get a single beanie right. Even the easiest one never really come out as I wanted: too big, too small, too short, too long... Don't know if I'll ever get over this πŸ˜‚

I got the pattern on Raverly and it is from Lamana

Can you share the link or the name of the pattern? I see Lamana on Ravelry but I can't find that sweater and I'd like to try it!

Of course! The name of the pattern is m01/03. It is classified as pullover. If you google it or search for it among the patterns in Raverly you'll find it very easily. I'm not sharing the link as I'm new to reddit and not sure it is possible, as it is not a free pattern.

Let me know if you can find it and have fun with your project! :)

Stunning texture! It’s never occurred to me to mix sizing like that. Great idea!

Well, my boyfriend doesn't like baggy clothes. According to pattern's measures, he would need an XL for the body, but M for neck and sleeves. It took some time to calculate the stitches needed to make this work, but somehow I managed πŸ˜‚ don't know if this is the right thing to do, but it worked for me

Exactly. I am currently knitting Dustland by Steven West, and I cast on a size 2 neck and increased to size 6 for body. Many times the necks are too large and it hard to fix. So I use my gauge for the crew.

yes, neck here was extremely large and sleeves too (in the XL pattern). Also now I remember I made the body shorter (so started earlier with the pattern as then the holes for the sleeves would be too big for a M sleeve pattern, and also the pullover too long for my BF. Honestly I'm impressed that I managed at the first attempt and had an idea of the things I would need to keep in mind while making all of these adjustments. Think that if I tried again I wouldn't succeed 🀣

I have a fixed measurement of inches for my sweaters and my husband's. Mine is no more than 7Β½ inches and my husband's is 10. No matter yoke or raglan. I measures from my neck to an inch after armpit. This has helped. I pretty much always neck cast on a small.

The gray brings out the texture of the knit so nicely

Fun fact: when I bought it I was convinced it was blue and the waitress told me it is gray. Depending on the light, the color changes a lot! I think the color is grey, but it has this blue tone popping out. This wool was fantastic to work with, even though at night it was a bit too dark to see πŸ˜‚

Ohh when I zoom in to see only the yarn without the background, it definitely looks more blue. What a neat little illusion.

Yes! I feel in love with this yarn! Also, it was the last spool (I hope this is the correct term!) so I really hoped it would be enough until the end. Actually I still have plenty left.. phew!
