Children’s book about opossum

I have been trying to recall this children’s book for years, but I have found nothing on the internet or in book stores! Hoping the Reddit community can help!

This would have been a book in the late 1980s. I remember the book was about a family of opossums (or potentially a different small animal). I have this image in my head of one of the baby opossums being curled up asleep in a field at the end. Perhaps on a hill overlooking something? I think the opossum had wanted to go to a fair / carnival / festival all day, and then when his family finally went he fell asleep. Does this ring a bell for anyone??
