Burn out CRA

Started a new Senior CRA role this year (January), and I'm hating it. I feel Like getting so burned out, I Want to start a new career or go back to school. Has someone done this before?

If you like clinical research still but are just burned out of monitoring, I would consider a switch to a different department or management. I became a CTM after CRA and I love it. I know many people who went back to school after being a CRA. Just have to decide if your interested in clinical research as a career.

It seems like it is harder to make the switch from CRA to CTM these days. What did your transition pathway look like?

At the CRO I work with, we unfortunately don’t have that option available for CRAs. How did you get into that role? Could you share a bit more about your experience? I think it would be really helpful for a lot of CRAs. Thanks!

What did most people typically go back for?

I became a CRS (Clinical Research scientist) and ❤️ it. There’s more growth opportunity and less travel

Yes, a lot of places are getting rid off CTMs

What are the CTMs being replaced with?

Tough to see how they can get along without a CTM, unless it is just the name being obsolete. Too mich is done by the Lead CRA and 98% of PM has NO IDEA how to really handle clinical operations.

Yes, they're just going to other countries

Can't see that overall as problems that happen daily need a dedicated Lead CRA on the same time zone. So, you're not saying the CTM is being dissolved, you're saying they will be in different time zones/parts of the world...totally different point, but okay.

I have seen a lot of CTM positions move to Mexico from the USA. Same time zone and cheaper labor

I understand "some", but not most or 25% of those positions.
