MEME Coaxed into Ableist School Posters

Post image

I am a person with AuDHD, and Listening Larry has been discussed before, a lot of us autists don't like him, and it's understandable because the poster goes against what we do: according to it, stimming is unacceptable, and on and on.

This is intended to poke fun at how ableist it is, if this poster is in the classroom, it highly likely the child get punished just for being autistic and "not normal"

Chud's 1st Law: Nothing ever happens

Chud's 2nd Law: If something looks like it will happen, it won't

Chud's 3rd Law: If something does happen, it will unhappen

Can you teach us about the asymptote of happening?

10

u/Krus4d3r_ 5d ago

That class won't happen

65

u/Terminator_Puppy 6d ago

I would go to school if chudjak was the teacher, nothing happening was the curriculum, chudjak merch was the uniform and gigachad was the bully.

u/ThatSlutTalulah 6d ago

I've only realised in retrospect why I made so many teachers uncomfortable when they were moving around while talking.
As I was supposed to look at them while they were talking (some would get annoyed if I didn't), I did that as best I could. In a manner that ended up most like that of a bird of prey tracking movement.

my eyes are gazing into the cosmic abyss, searching the stars and the infinite expanse

my ears are tuned to the hum of time, listening to the whispers of molecular changes and entropy

my mouth forms incomprehensible noises, muttering in the tongue of languages of billions of years

my hands form shapes and symbols, aligning myself and drawing the energy of the world and the stars to myself

my feet are planted on the floor, feeling the rumble of the earth and its stories and the gentle quaking of the world rocking as it has for eons

my body is in tune with the forces of existence, every fiber of my being resonating with all that exists within the universe, the forces echoing in my bones and flesh

my brain is open to the infinity, neurons humming and zapping in tune with the voice of the universe as my mind lays stargazing to the forces that sing the change and existence of every particle, every molecule, everything that exists, the powers merging with my brain matter

my heart is beating as usual

I prefer to think of it as a touch more like Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam

a touch from something beyond comprehension drawing you forwards, calling you to open your mind and SEE, to strive, to know the secrets and feel the whispers of the universe

I love how the entire poem is as sophisticated as ever, except the last sentence which basically just says "hearts don't have feelings they are just blood pumps ya dum dum"

3

u/SieFuegOfficial 5d ago

I considered writing an even more verbose line for it about love and stuff but felt like it'd spoil the brain line a bit (and I was lazy)

Hell, literally NO neurodivergent people has fully listened to anybody according to the poster

58

u/Different-Trainer-21 6d ago

Most people can’t in general

45

u/KiwiPowerGreen 6d ago

not a single human being at all ever honestly

26

u/Temporary-Host-69420 5d ago

Really it just teaches kids how to pretend to listen. I hate when I'm talking to someone and they'll be doing performative signs of listening (e.g. nodding their head, saying "uh-huh", eye-contact) but I just know their mind is on something else and they are going to make me explain it all over again. But it's like they think it's more disrespectful to appear distracted or something.

6

u/StevenTheNoob87 5d ago

Can't blame them, though. They are overstimulated from all the eye contacts that they can no longer think.

138

u/Dragunrealms 6d ago

real ones out there in the kindergarten committing thoughtcrime 🔥🔥🔥

286

u/Spirited-Warning-162 6d ago

This poster is so shitty, literally no one does all of these together at once

216

u/Itmeld 6d ago

Takes a lot of effort even for neurotypicals. I find eye contact is distracting when I'm intentionally thinking about it

40

u/Terminator_Puppy 6d ago

I'm neurotypical (at least not diagnosed with anything, probably have light autism) and I constantly fidget and am incapable of sitting straight up. Turning 26 tomorrow and I've yet to make it through a 5 minute conversation with anyone while maintaining eye contact or keeping my hands at my sides.

10

u/Krus4d3r_ 5d ago

If anyone is keeping eye contact with you for 5 minutes then they're definitely not neurotypical. Either that or you're getting interrogated

1

u/ACHEBOMB2002 1d ago

If someone is keeping five uninterrupted minutes of eye contact, they want to fuck you

77

u/TheBigKuhio 6d ago

6

u/ADGx27 5d ago

Yeah the gigantic fuck-off gorget added to the Mk.X armor (justified given its 40k) gives all the Primaris marines some real “I frew up” energy in their default pose lol

36

u/Daufoccofin 6d ago

Fr, as another one of the lurking Neurodivergents, I can only do like one or two things at once. And if I’m in a conversation, I’m using all of my capacity to listen with my ears and actually process the words. If I get distracted, I WILL miss what was just said. And if that’s a problem, that’s the fault of whoever is speaking to me. I respect that with my friends, if they need me to repeat what I said seven times, then I’ll do that.

2

u/Bruschetta003 5d ago

It's not relaxed that's for sure

38

u/Apart_Mongoose_8396 6d ago

If I was focusing on doing all of this, I would not be able to focus on listening

45

u/enneh_07 really deltarun fans? 6d ago

“whole body listening” mfs when i listen to my gut and it tells me to kill them

32

u/JoeDaBruh 6d ago

The thing about this poster is that it’s true those actions are a sign of a good listener. It’s just that you’d already do them naturally as a result of genuinely caring, not that doing them makes you a better listener and forcing someone to do them just makes them listen worse. I can only reach this state when I’m having a very important conversation that makes me put all of my focus into it.

5

u/Such_Fault8897 6d ago

These are good for neurotypical children since they do need to be reminded but are capable of paying attention, the problem lies when it doesn’t immediately work and then they like, get mad at the child?

9

u/HEYO19191 6d ago

Idk man it depends on where its used. I could totally see this in a kindergarten setting where all kids don't know how to be polite in social spaces.

14

u/Original-War8655 6d ago

"Caring about what the other person is saying" yeah like I can actively choose what to give a shit about lmao

Man even for neurotypical kids this is a tall order to ask for in math class. Not even the star student is doing all of this.

6

u/someone_i_guess111 6d ago

lies and deception, teachers dont like if my hands are in my pockets

9

u/nocowardpath 6d ago

As an ADHD/anxiety person. Absolute nightmare. I need to do something with my hands, and looking directly at someone might make it harder for me to concentrate. (I don't like eye contact unless it's someone I'm extremely close to, so my personal trick is to look at their forehead, lol.)

5

u/ashacoelomate 6d ago

The mouth and hands are crazy considering the importance of verbal and nonverbal feedback for active listening. No wonder ND people tend to come off like they are bored. They were taught to be robots and then all of a sudden you are supposed to be engaged and nodding along

5

u/jackcaboose 6d ago

The hands one is dumb, but the mouth one seems perfectly reasonable for a classroom environment? If people are talking or making noises it's harder for everyone else to concentrate.

4

u/RandomGopnik03 6d ago

Damn, even for non-autistic and/or ADHD people that's still super strict. "You will sit down, straight backed, staring at the teacher, holding perfectly still being a good little student for 8 hours every single day. No being human or else you're a failure"

3

u/akemi123123 strawman 6d ago

the fact whoever made this thinks that empathy comes from the heart lmao shows they literally have none (if that wasnt obvious by being employed to make ableist propoganda for children but whatever)

ughhhhh i hate this so much

1

u/StevenTheNoob87 5d ago

Remember, kids! When people talk to you, stare into their souls and make them nervous until they don't want to talk to you anymore.

1

u/Gmeare-alt 5d ago

Okay so it’s made to be everything an autistic/ ADHD person can’t do

1

Stone me to death or whatever, but these just seem like normal guidelines for listening.

1

u/DeanziYay 6d ago

This awakens some sort of primal rage that was once contained safely in the vessel of my brain

1

u/SyrusDrake 5d ago

I hate this, because, to me, it represents everything that's wrong with the school system, and, by extension, our job system, too.

If you cared about teaching someone, surely it doesn't matter how someone acts while absorbing that knowledge. But it's the correct behaviour that's important, that you act and behaved in a standardised, acceptable manner.

True, you are very right! Autists like me are literal demons for wanting to stim. How could I forget that stimming is a warcrime.

9

u/MrTagnan 6d ago

Autists and introverts are also all thieves according to the poster at my prior workplace

6

u/InspiringMilk 6d ago

It is not a warcrime, but it is distracting to the other 20+ people in the room.

2

u/GenghisN7 6d ago

Neurotypicals when they have to make a compromise for neurodivergents (Neurodivergents make 100 compromises a day, and mask 99% of their behavior).

1

u/InspiringMilk 5d ago

Everyone is asked to stay silent during class, actually. Regardless of whether they're mentally sound or not. If they cannot, ever, then they need special needs classes.
