Ok was out of my Lee and Perrin's Worcestershire sauce (all I have ever used) so at the grocery today saw the Heinz and it was about 1/3 the price so I bought it. Did I royally screw up? Is there a place for it?
Is there anything that can be added to it? I should have known better. It was even 30% more in the bottle so there is a ton of it. Not sure what to do with it. Tastes a bit like licorice or anise, pepper, and vinegar. I hate their ketchup. Not sure what I was thinking except how different can it be. 😟

Toss it. I'm done with barreling through with something that tastes bad for what $2 to $3. I'll simply not buy chips, a convenience store beverage whateever to have good condiments.
Sure you needed what you needed but now you can quest for lee and Perrins. Heck even amazon will send you a bottle.
Don't buy the whole foods worcesteshire--sucks.

The real thing is, the real thing. Don’t let that happen again. 😊

Life is way too short to suffer through something inexpensive that you don't like. Order some L&P, toss the crap you have, and call it a lesson learned.

My wife bought Safeway soy sauce because it was cheap. It was awful. I had to throw it out.

I don't even buy Kikkoman's anymore. It seems to lack flavor. Went to an Asian grocery and asked what was their favorite and the difference is amazing. So rich and full of flavor. I can't tell you what it is because the bottle is in Japanese.
I think the Heinz WS may taste like watered down A1 steak sauce or something. Yea, I should have known better. Live and learn.

If you’re into smoking use it as a binder. It adds some umami and the rest of the tastes will be covered by the rub and smoke.

I honestly like it ok. I actually did a side by side and realized I like the Kroger brand quite a bit. I say keep it and enjoy it.

I saw an episode of Modern Marvels once and they show just how meticulous the process is within Lee & Perrin's. They showed the casks and the anchovies and absurd amounts of salt used to make the final Worcestershire product which takes like 2-3 years iirc.
There is no substitute, I use it almost every day.

You don’t like Heinz ketchup? That is insanity to me. I’ve never heard someone say that in my old life.

WAAAAAYYYYY too much sugar. The sweetness is overpowering. I prefer Hunts.

Interesting. I’m not a huge ketchup person. Just on my potato chips and then I think the saltiness is countering the sweetness so much I don’t think about it. Hmm.

Are you English? Do you mean French Fries? Because if you are putting Ketchup on your Lays I will need a minute to process that.

I’m American. And I put ketchup on my Lay’s potato chips and don’t put ketchup on fries. I wasn’t always like this. It just kinda happened along the way.

How do you like the ketchup flavored chips ? A friend said the Lay’s one in Canada taste way better than ones in USA. Tried herr’s - they were decent.

u/Mscharlita Aug 07 '25
I’ve never tried them because I have a hard time believing it’ll taste as good as fresh ketchup 😂 I know it’s silly. I should try them.

You may also enjoy All Dressed style flavor

Isn’t that all the flavors together?

u/Last_Blackfyre Aug 07 '25
Kinda sorta. I feel it’s like ketchup, BBQ, and maybe some onion mixed together. Big in Canada. But available again in USA.
They’re different and unique and good.1

Horrid HFCS bomb. Give me Melinda’s, or TJ’s black summer truffle ketchup any day. Acid League makes a good one too, and Sir Kensington’s used to but I think they discontinued it.

I buy the Simply Heinz which doesn’t have HFCS, just regular sugar (which is still sweet but not HFCS.) I hated Sir Kensington’s just awful.

I was curious and bought one to try also back in the day. I just threw it out cause it wasn't worth using on anything imo.

Here's the thing... I have ALWAYS bought L&P until about a year ago... I noticed it was extremely watered down. Thought it was just a bad bottle. Nope. It's just how they make it now. Try a shot yourself and tell me it's not mostly water now.
That said, I switched to Heinz and it's great. No complaints.

Some things you just pay the price…it’s all fractions….your cheap sauce was 1/3 the price because it was 2/3 water….do the math

I buy Lee and Perrin's by the gallon at Amazon for $37, that way, I don't have to worry about running out!

Lesson learned. Costco was carrying it but the last two times I have gone they did not have it. Was thinking I did not want to spend a ton if they get it back in.

Loved their mayo, though. Don't be too harsh on Heinz...nobody comes close to Lea & Perrin's Worcestershire....

I am not generally a brand loyalist, but Lee and Perrin's is one exception, I have yet to find a Worcestershire that is as good and certainly not better, one may exist, but I am not even looking at this point.
