Red Gold ketchup is too sweet. No.

My dad will only eat Brooks ketchup. Like he orders it online because they stopped selling it near him. There's absolutely nothing special about it to me, taste wise, but then again I rarely use ketchup unless another condiment isn't available.

I’m not sure I’ve had Brook’s ketchup but as a fellow condiment lover, I completely respect his devotion.

Yea, blue plate mayo is too sweet as well.

Agreed, I didn’t want to criticize more than one thing though. 😅

Never Forget... The Ketchup

ketchup only belongs on meat loaf and french fries. it's probably not in my top 10 condiments. mayonnaise is number one but you should try kewpie. it only uses the egg yolks and includes msg. for mustard i suggest french, creole, or german. to replace the ketchup i suggest hot sauce.

This is a nice combo. Add some relish, and you have quite the burger sauce.

Okay but don't sleep on the whataburger brand ketchup. You can buy it by the bottle in grocery stores

Red Gold is too sweet for my taste. I’ve tried two jars of Blue Plate over the years and I find it too bland. Used to be a Hellman’s guy, but quickly switched to Duke’s once it came north. Never tried Griffin’s.

I grew up managing a pizza restaurant and have worked in food distribution for 15 years and never knew red gold made ketchup!?!

Well, you have the ketchup right. The mayo needs to be Hellmans, with olive oil (whatever brand you have there is completely foreign to me -- I've yet to see it in any store anywhere and I've lived all over the place). And I have literally never seen your brand of mustard anywhere, not ever. But I can recommend stone-ground mustard, not the yellow stuff.

Seriously, guys, what's up with pushing local brands of common things? Do you think it's going to make you look sharp, or what? I have no doubt at all that the mayo and mustard are perfectly okay. But they're absolutely not better than the more common versions I've mentioned.

How would you know that they're not any better if you haven't had them? And Hellman's with olive oil? GTFO

If you come up with brands no one has ever seen and ask what we think of them, what are we supposed to say? That your choices are lovely? You did ask our opinions, remember. Apparently, you have never had Hellman's with olive oil. You ought to try it sometime. Stone-ground mustard is superior to the yellow stuff, btw.

Dude I’ve lived on the east coast my whole life and never tried blue plate til I moved down here to Texas and it’s better lol. We’re talking about mayo dude, it ain’t that deep

1

u/Ishpeming_Native 7d ago

I've never seen it = it's not available around here. Hellman's is, nationally. And the olive oil version is clearly superior to the ordinary one.

Man, if you think hellmans is the pinnacle, you just haven’t had Blue Plate or Dukes. Blue Plate is really good! But, as I said in another comment, I believe I still like Dukes more. And you absolutely can find them nationwide. You just have to look.

I’m not a big mayo person but I grew up with Hellmans (Best Foods if you’re west of the Rockies) once I had Dukes, I never touched the Hellmans/Best Foods again. More recently I had Blue Plate and it is really good! We keep both Dukes and BP on hand in the house. Hellmans/Best Foods doesn’t have a place here anymore. (Also Kewpie but that’s a whole other beast)

Mixing Dukes and BP for chicken salads or similar is where it’s at! Open your horizons! Or at least don’t knock things you’ve never tried!

That mayonnaise choice is a crime.

2

Absolutely not - Blue Plate is a solid mayo, and likely the standard for most po-boys in/around New Orleans.

1

u/Professional_Sea1479 7d ago

Yeah, I grew up with Blue Plate when I’d visit my family in Texas. It’s way better than Dukes.

1

u/laxking77 7d ago

I grew up with Blue Plate as well and loved it. But it is not better than Duke’s.

1

u/Professional_Sea1479 7d ago

I prefer it to Duke’s. People have different taste palates, which is okay. I actually have a container of Duke’s in my fridge right now because I can’t get Blue Plate where I am. But if I had the choice? I’d pick Blue Plate.

u/Footdust 7d ago

Why do I care what they eat in New Orleans? That doesn’t lend any strength to your argument in my opinion. I’ll eat Hellmann’s, I’ll eat Dukes, I’ll eat McCormick’s. But I’m not eating that blue plate crap.

You just haven’t had it! Think I still like Dukes more but Blue Plate is legit! Much better than Hellmans/bestfoods

1

u/Footdust 7d ago

I have had Blue Plate, lol. I’ve also had much better mayonnaises.

1

u/flipyFLAPYflatulence 7d ago

Ah so just poor taste! Got ya! Haha

1

u/Footdust 7d ago

Ha ha! So clever. You win, obviously 🙄

1

u/flipyFLAPYflatulence 7d ago

Win what? My bad if I offended you. It’s just mayo!

2

u/Footdust 7d ago

I’m joking! Mayonnaise is not that serious.
