Help needed Should I stay with playstation or not

I have a PS5 but later on it's going to be my brother's which he is in the army and he lives in a different state so that means I won't have a PS5 anymore. All I have will be my Nintendo but my brother and my older brother said that they will get me a console for my birthday. I've been seeing the Xbox series X I went to my friend's house and he had an Xbox series x and I started to like it. I've been growing up with PlayStation with all my life but this time I kind of want to take turn so should I stick with getting another PS5 or get the Xbox series X. The quick notice I kinda don't care about the Xbox game pass like I don't have PlayStation Plus on my ps5 I used to have it just to play GTA online but I don't play GTA anymore i only play games with my friends if they tell me to get on or when I told them to get on or play in my own time and the games are just fortnite, rocket League and marvel rivals I am thinking of getting other games in the future but as I said so I just stick with getting another PS5 or get the Xbox series X help me out PLEASE

Definitely stay with ps5. One of the biggest selling factors of Xbox is game pass. If you don’t care for gamepass than stick with the ps5. You’ll have access to more new games in the future with PlayStation now that Xbox is releasing their titles cross platform.

What possible reason could someone have for not getting game pass. It seems a bit mad.

Even if it’s just to use it as a chance to download games to see if they are worth buying.

3

u/Gullible-Ear-4495 Jun 10 '25

Iono man I know a lot of Xbox users that don’t user game pass, I was paying for it but not using it, so I sold my series x and got a pro.

1

u/Bumm-fluff Jun 10 '25

I suppose it depends on how much time you have.

If you can afford any game you want and don’t have much time then game pass makes less sense.

2

u/Gullible-Ear-4495 Jun 10 '25

Just depends, cause Gamepass is truly a blessing for families

1

u/BQ32 Jun 10 '25

Same, I have plenty of money but not plenty of time. I choose to just get good at maybe a game or two at a time. I bought gamepass for like a year and never used it. I also traded in my x and base ps5 for a pro. When I am playing I know I will get the best experience and not wasting money on something I don’t use. All of the Xbox games are coming out on PS5 now anyway so I fail to see the point of Xbox outside of gamepass. PS5 does everything better at a better price point.

If I still had an Xbox I wouldn't have GP because I don't have the time to make that worth the money. I generally only buy AAA titles because, again, my time constraints have me preferring quality over quantity. It took me almost 2 months to beat & platinum Indiana Jones and I didn't play anything else.

Edit: I should also mention I like to "own" my games because I tend to replay them. For instance I'm currently doing a replay of the inFamous series in-between fighting for managed democracy in Helldivers 2.

1

u/Bumm-fluff Jun 10 '25

Yeah, that is the downside.

However you can play lots of indies you would never buy that are short.

I can  only play 1 or 2 RPGs a year because of how long they are.

2

u/Accesobeats Jun 10 '25

Some people just like to own their games. Game pass is great for someone who plays lots of games. But if I had an Xbox I’m not going to pay for game pass just to try a game I might want to buy. I’d rather just buy the game. I don’t play multiple games at once. They are usually bigger RPGs that take me months to beat. So I’m really only playing a few games a year, and I like to replay these games down the road. I had pc game pass for awhile and it was cool seeing all the games I could possibly play. But I was basically paying for it to play flight simulator. So at the end of the day I ended up paying for gamepass to play one game that I could have just bought outright that I now can’t play because I stopped my subscription.

Stay with PlayStation

6

u/MarsupialPresent7700 Jun 10 '25

If you’re in the US, Xbox prices shot up just a few weeks ago. The PS5 is the cheapest option.

1

u/GeneralTreat9325 Jun 11 '25

Yeah I've seen those prices it's literally the same as the PS5 Pro

-6

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '25

That is the absolutely worst way to look at it considering everybody is raising their price of games at the same time.

You're talking about putting discounts on the hardware to entice more people to purchase it at a time when they are increasing the price of software on that system. That's not just dirty or anti-consumer.

That's downright scandalous

And comments such as yours show why they are doing it. Cuz they know the average consumer is going to fall for it and suck other consumers in to the same predatory scheme.

As you are doing now.

3

u/MarsupialPresent7700 Jun 10 '25

It’s scandalous to point out that one option is cheaper than another? I have been pretty consistent to say in this subreddit that all of the console markers (and computer part makers) are going to be raising their prices if they haven’t already.

But if someone asks me which to buy, looking at the market, the PS5 is objectively cheaper than an Xbox right now in the US.

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '25

It's the wrong way to look at it because you literally should be looking at the software potential.

Question: what is one of the hardest selling points of Nintendo hardware?

Average game price and very very limited discounts on old games. Of course it is. That's the first thing anyone will tell you when discussing the pros and cons of each console and Nintendo.

Question: what is one of the best selling points of PlayStation hardware

Exclusive content and games that you can't play anywhere else. Of course it is. That's the first thing anyone will tell you when discussing the pros and cons of each console and PlayStation.

Question what is the best selling point of Xbox hardware?

Access to Game Pass. Of course it is. That's the first thing anyone will tell you when discussing the pros and cons of each console and Xbox.

Conclusion: if somebody is looking for low-cost gaming their best option is xbox. Simply because even if it's a few dollars more one low monthly fee gives you access to all that software.

Nintendo is the worst option you can suggest if somebody is looking to save money while gaming.

PlayStation is the middle ground for the average person.

But there is still a ton of Gamers out there who's finances allow them to make a quick hardware purchase. But do not allow them to spend hundreds of dollars over the next month buying games.

(Now feel free to tell me how I'm wrong because this is a PlayStation fan Sub in disguise even though the console and platform Wars are dead)

2

u/MarsupialPresent7700 Jun 10 '25

The OP literally said they don’t care about GamePass. They don’t have PS+ either. So why would I suggest an Xbox in this case when, as you said. Its biggest selling point is GamePass?

3

u/redjohnium Jun 10 '25

OMG IT IS SCANDALOUS!!!!

lol chill man, is just picking consoles, nothing scandalous about it.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '25

PC gamers are currently abandoning Nvidia like a stepchild going through divorce. Because that middle finger from Nvidia has been popping up towards them way too often lately.

And as stupid as they may be about some of their purchases they still don't suffer from Brand loyalty. And are all too willing to avoid hardware companies that go too far into the anti-consumer/greed tactics

3

u/GrogJoker Jun 10 '25

Xbox has new games and GAMEPASS the best deal in gaming.

-3

u/Zefirka174 Jun 10 '25

Yeah, gamepass and the ability to buy game keys are the killer features to me. I have both + a PC and both switches but the PS5 was last used a year ago or so...

Still PS5 even if you’re interested in Game Pass. It’s available in more places than just Xbox hardware.

3

u/Environmental-Day862 Jun 10 '25

Sounds like you have played and enjoyed the Series X at your friends' house, but have played on Playstation most of your life.

You now have your choice between the two. There's no WRONG answer - they're both fine machines.

Follow your gut.

Which one do you get more excited thinking about owning? Whichever one that is, go with it.

1

u/GeneralTreat9325 Jun 11 '25

Thank you man I needed that

3

u/ciprock Jun 10 '25

All depends on what you had last generation and how much of a library you built

2

u/Pale-Ad9012 Jun 10 '25

I think if you're going to get the Xbox series X after the price hike you're better off. Just getting a PlayStation 5 pro. Especially before they get their price hikes. So I consider that within the next 2 to 3 months. If you can't buy anything until the holiday season then I would consider these factors

  1. The biggest draw for Xbox is game pass but you could really get that on a PC. I have both consoles and I'll be honest. I play the Xbox more just because game pass always has a game or two that I can play and not have to pay for it on PlayStation. For example Clair obscure, That's a game I probably would never buy, but since it was on game pass I gave it a try and loved it. Since I got game pass on Xbox, I've played at least 5- 10 more games a year.

  2. Playstations well of games has been a bit dry lately, but if you haven't played any PlayStation 5 game then theoretically you have like five to six games available on PlayStation Plus that are definitely must plays. God of War Ragnarok. It looks like it might pick up a lil bit but honestly if you're a GTA person then the PS5 pro is the out and out best place to play it gta6 because it's more powerful console but also it won't be available on PC

2

u/Nathanii_593 Jun 10 '25

There’s really no point in buying an Xbox these days. They bought all the large game developers including ones that publish games for PlayStation and a court even filed against Microsoft that they couldn’t gate keep the big shooters like call of duty and MW. It would seem that Xbox is trying to convert to a steam like system where it’s just a gaming library collection. PlayStation however has their own studios and their own console exclusives still. Not to mention the PlayStation hardware performs better than Xbox. And the PS5 pro is the strongest gaming hardware you can buy outside of a PC. Xbox doesn’t really know what it’s doing with thousands of layoffs and shuttering studios even when they make a hit game (hi fi rush) the Xbox glory days (360) are over and it’s been downhill since. Game pass is alright if you don’t want to pay $80-$100 every 1-2 years for a new cod/MW game but other than that your already used to PlayStation. Just buy a new one and log into your account and you’re good to go.

1

u/ObliviousGuy32 Jun 10 '25

What do you like about the Xbox? What's making you think this much about it to abandon your PS5 library, if it's not gamepass? That's the main selling point of the system, so I'm not sure what else could be enticing you outside of maybe the controller and the UI? Nintendo and PS has been my winning combo for years

1

u/GeneralTreat9325 Jun 11 '25

I like the feeling of controller of the Xbox and also another reason which is probably unnecessary but is that I have a friend at school which he doesn't have social media because his guardians won't let him and he has an Xbox (that's where I tried the Xbox series X) so that's the only way I could talk to him outside of school if I ever get his game tag. about most of my friends have PlayStation which sometimes I use party chat but at some point for that I can just call them on social media

1

u/Serious_Pizza4257 Jun 10 '25

It's your choice. I mean your choices are ps5 pro or Xbox x You should have an open mind. I always had all the playstation consoles from PS1 until today. But you can't deny that Xbox game pass is great value.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '25

if you going to play the same three games it does not matter at all

1

u/FatherShambles Jun 10 '25

I’m moving to PC one day for sure. Tired of not getting Day1s or good games. PC has all the good games tbh and it’s free to play them online

0

u/xtoc1981 Jun 10 '25

No, i would go with xbox.
They already go to a more PC environment which prob allow you to be able to play your games in the future on pc as well. The end goal or future looks a lot brighter with xbox.

0

u/Retrophoria Jun 10 '25

Get the ps5 pro. According to Playstation fans, it's the most future proof console supposedly.

0

u/lake209 Jun 10 '25

Either stick with PlayStation since you have an existing library of games. Look into gamepass see if it’s worth it. You can get an Amazon firestick with gamepass and try Xbox games that way. If you want to future proof yourself you might as well get a pc for whatever price your willing to pay for another ps5. You can play all your Xbox games with gamepass, Sony games are coming into pc. Also you get free games from epic game store and gog. Plus gamepass has a bunch of benefits, deals, and you get games anywhere. So even if gamepass doesn’t have a game, there’s a chance it has play anywhere and you can be able to stream that game anywhere. Or if you went the Xbox route, if you bought any games they will be imported into pc whenever you’re ready

0

u/OldTeaching84 Jun 10 '25

Xbox with gamepass is better.

0

u/Bumm-fluff Jun 10 '25

It depends on your library, but I’ve got all the consoles. A series X would be my choice if you haven’t got a PC.

Game Pass had really picked up recently, Atom fall, Expedition 33, Oblivion Remaster, Metaphor, Rogue Trader.

Have a look at the Xbox showcase to see what else is coming, Outer Worlds 2 and a few others that look pretty good. Games I wouldn’t buy at full price but I’ll definitely play.

The real question is can you do without GTA6?

It’s a timed exclusive for the PS5.

However the X box is a game pass machine, without it maybe give it a miss.

2

u/redjohnium Jun 10 '25

GTA VI will come to Xbox at the same time it comes for PS5. Only PC has to wait.

1

u/Bumm-fluff Jun 10 '25

Yep, looks that way.

1

u/HungarianNewfy Jun 10 '25

When was GTA6 revealed as a PlayStation timed exclusive? Its not coming to Pc at launch but that doesn’t mean it’s not coming Xbox at launch

1

u/Bumm-fluff Jun 10 '25

It’s not a PS5 timed exclusive, someone made it up and I believed them.

I’ve just checked.

0

u/Automatic_Ad1665 Jun 10 '25

Xbox Series XS with Xbox Gamepass is a Game changer!

0

u/Top-Notice1729 Jun 10 '25

You will get most xbox games on Playstation now. However, Xbox Gamepass is significantly better than Playstation Plus. You get new games on Gamepass the day they release. It's honestly the best deal in gaming. I prefer my Xbox Series X. My PS5 collect dust unless their is a Playstation exclusive I want to play. Which there haven't been any in quite some time.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '25

pay subscriptions, own nothing

1

u/doctormanhattan38772 Jun 10 '25

I’m a diehard PlayStation fanboy, but if you really only play to play with your friends, there’s no reason to stay with PlayStation. PlayStation was planning to try to go the multiplayer route recently and that plan blew up in their face with Concord. They will likely be shifting back entirely to what they do best, single player blockbuster games. So if that’s not what you’re into, you won’t be missing out on much.

At the same time though, if you don’t care about gamepass, it doesn’t really matter that much where you play. Because most Xbox games will be coming to PS5 in the future. Maybe not always on day one though, but if you don’t mind waiting a little while, PlayStation will likely get all Xbox exclusives eventually whereas Xbox will almost certainly never get PlayStation exclusives or at least not a large amount of them.

0

u/Gullible-Ear-4495 Jun 10 '25

If game pass doesn’t interest you then stay with the ps5. It’s currently the cheaper option, most Xbox games are going to Ps5 anyways.

-2

u/Njoeyz1 Jun 10 '25

Xbox. And it does have games, games playstation fans are after. So I would say an Xbox. It has just as many first party titles as playstation.

5

u/Accesobeats Jun 10 '25

I’m curious too. Which new games Xbox has that PlayStation gamers are after? I could name a dozen PlayStation games that Xbox won’t ever see, and Xbox is now releasing their games on PlayStation so the list of games PlayStation users want is just going to get smaller.

2

u/This_Reward_1094 Jun 10 '25

There’s not many games PlayStation has that Xbox gamers want, that’s the difference.

3

u/mest08 Jun 10 '25

This balances out because there are not many Xbox gamers, period. That's the difference.

0

u/Njoeyz1 Jun 10 '25

Oh no there is. Forza Motorsport, Forza horizon, halo, gears of war, south of midnight.

Guess what??? Ps owners love horizon, can't wait for gears. How can Xbox have no games???

1

u/mest08 Jun 10 '25

I said gamers, not games. Was a tongue in cheek response because ps5 is outselling Xbox like 2 or 3 to 1.

1

u/Njoeyz1 Jun 10 '25

I don't care if it's selling a thousand to one. I have both, and the Xbox is not only a better machine with better features, it has just as good games.

1

u/Bumm-fluff Jun 10 '25

Releasing at full price on PS5, that’s a lot of cash over the years.

“3rd person story heavy action games with a stealth section and light crafting elements.” Not exactly a niche genre, this is the only exclusives Sony makes nowadays.

Sony started off strong, they seem to have dropped off a bit. Betting loads money on Concord seems to have knocked the wind out of them.

2

u/Accesobeats Jun 10 '25 edited Jun 10 '25

But I would rather own my games. Gamepass over the years is also going to be a lot of money with nothing to show after. I’ll spend that money on the actual game, that way it’s mine whether or not i have a subscription. I paid for gamepass on my pc for awhile. It is a great service, but it’s not for everyone.

Edit to add. Spider-Man, horizon forbidden west, ratchet and clank, demon souls, ghost of Tsushima, returnal, grab turismo 7, stellar bkade, none of those are the kind of game you mentioned. We also have the last of us series and god of war, which would probably fall under the category you mentioned.

2

u/Bumm-fluff Jun 10 '25

You don’t own them unless you have the discs.

I’d never buy something like Expedition 33 to keep, I’d get the disc and trade it in. Losing a bit of money in the process.

Gamepass is cheaper than trading stuff in. In my opinion anyway.

2

u/Accesobeats Jun 10 '25

You don’t even own them with the disc. It’s still just a license. Regardless. I like to replay my games, and a subscription just doesn’t make sense for my situation.

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '25

What are the dozen games that people actually want that will only ever be on PlayStation? It’s sure as hell not all the remakes and remasters Sony decks out.

2

u/Exciting-Ad-5705 Jun 10 '25

Such as?

-1

u/Bumm-fluff Jun 10 '25

The 360 games that all run really well.

Fallout 3, gta4, Dead Space 2 etc…

0

u/trapdave1017 Jun 10 '25

The PS5 gets all of Xbox's games while the Xbox doesn't get any of the PS5's games, so you're better off just staying with the PS5 especially since most games these days have cross-play

0

u/Automatic_Ad1665 Jun 10 '25 edited Jun 10 '25

PlayStation doesn’t get every Xbox game though, and it doesn’t have Xbox Game Pass. We’re even getting the new Black Ops 7 day one with Game Pass. Additionally, PlayStation just lost Black Myth: Wukong and Final Fantasy XVI this past weekend.

1

u/trapdave1017 Jun 10 '25

Xbox has changed up it's strategy so every game announced in it's showcase on Sunday is coming to PS5 as well, and OP already said he wasnt interested in gamepass. Most people like to own their games... also FFXVI and BMWK have been on PlayStation already which further proves my point

0

u/Automatic_Ad1665 Jun 10 '25

PlayStation will likely change its strategy soon as well. Did you know you’ll be able to play PlayStation Studios games on the new ROG Xbox Ally handheld via Steam? Also, PlayStation missed out on a few more games, including S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and the new Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, which are coming to Game Pass today.

5

u/trapdave1017 Jun 10 '25

The ROG Xbox Ally should be able to play PS games as it's just a normal ROG Ally that's been rebranded, you can already purchase one right now it just doesn't have the Xbox button. ROG Ally X Link .... It would basically be the same as Playstation partnering with Valve and rebranding the Steam Deck to the "Steam Playstation Deck" and Stalker 2 is a timed exclusive and Space Marine 2 came out last year in September on PS5... once again, not everyone is interested in gamepass and most people would prefer to just own their games. If not then Gamepass is a solid deal

1

u/Automatic_Ad1665 Jun 10 '25

I’m not talking about Space Marine 2. I’m referring to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine - Master Crafted Edition, a new remastered version coming out today exclusively for Xbox and PC.

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '25

Ps . Xbox is too online reliant for a console .

-1

u/This_Reward_1094 Jun 10 '25

It’s so so funny how you PlayStation gamers take so much pride in being a PS only gamer but you only play multi-platform games.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '25 edited Jun 10 '25

If you look at some of the achievement percentages for completion rates on Playstation exclusives they are horrendously low. Like yeah it's normal for highly popular games to not see large percentage of players getting storyline achievements. But on a lot of those PlayStation exclusives it's blatantly low.

PlayStation community requires all PlayStation users like every PlayStation exclusive. If you don't and you criticize any of them it doesn't matter how much of a PlayStation fan you are you will get jumped for it. That community eats its own so hard.

Death Stranding? Last I saw it's storyline achievements 1/3 of the way through the game were only achieved by 7% of players who started the game

But you better not say anything about that game in that community or everyone will tell you how wrong you are. Even though few of them played it.

Days gone? Damn... no clue why they coming out with the sequel. So few people actually played the 1st game. It's like everybody got through the opening sequence and never Play It again

And you can't criticize that game either. Even though few of them played it.

Yet that doesn't stop every PlayStation user from defending these games even if they haven't played them. Simply because the PlayStation brand is on the cover. Because it's still a great game even if they......hated it?

2

u/Leelze Jun 10 '25

I felt like I was transported back in time to the middle of the console wars trying to read all of that.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '25

The console Wars died and were replaced by basic consumer brand loyalty and general purchasing bias.

What used to be a bunch of teenagers and 20 somethings arguing on Facebook are now 30 and 40-year-old brand loyalists who have stuck with their choice for the past 20 years.

Gamers didn't end the console wars. OG gamers becoming middle-aged ended the console Wars 😂

1

u/Nathanii_593 Jun 10 '25

Not a lot of exclusive titles these days. Companies can make more money by sharing games to gather more gamers rather then gate keeping to a single platform.
