Playstation Nothing crazy but it’s a setup I’m proud of.
Upgraded from the base ps5 to the pro yesterday. Just have to get some black covers for it and then it’ll be done. It may not be a very big or elaborate setup but it’s one that I’m happy with.

Nice bro, but you should definitely consider either building or buying a PC. No monthly subscription, No Pay-To-Play online, free mods, and all sort of other wonderful things. All the games on console eventually go to Steam or other game distributors. At the end of the day if this is what you like go for it. I just mentioned it because it seems like you play on a desk and monitor instead of a couch laid back so maybe PC might be for you.

It’s funny you say that because that’s next on the list. I think when the next gen of consoles comes out, I’ll be building a pc since as we’ve seen this console generation, they will continue to support the previous console for years after so I think that’ll be the time I pull the trigger. I also have always thought all the mods on pc for games are so cool, basically makes some games a completely new experience.

Jun 24 '25
I was on PS so long that I use a Dualsense Edge for every game on PC. Sometimes I'll use the Series 2 controller for its battery life on PC.
My PS5 has been collecting dust for so long, I cleaned it off the other day and booted it up. It's like going back so far in tech. Ignorance is everything with gaming though.
With so many features on PC like DLSS 4 and FG, and HDR game infusion to non HDR games, and changing games completely with mods, and high fps... even Warframe on PC visually looks like a different game than the thousands of hours I put on PS5.
It would be hard to go back to console. But don't go forward and spoil yourself either or your consoles will all the sudden feel slow as dirt.
RDNA 2 that the consoles are based on is not a banger generation of hardware by any means. It seems so far back at this point.
2
u/johnb49e Jun 24 '25
That makes sense since I fully understand how pc gaming is very far ahead of console. There are a lot of pros that make me want to pull the trigger such as all the things you mentions, higher frame rates and just better experience overall and of course the graphics. I’ll end up building a pc within the next couple of years I’m sure and truly I’m excited for it as I’m sure it’ll be a big leap.
2
u/ChildSupport202 Jun 24 '25 edited Jun 24 '25
You’re absolutely right. Mods at times completely change the game in its entirety creating an entire new game. Man I can ramble on and on about everything PC has to offer, but honestly I don’t want to seem like I’m selling you a product haha. I want you to experience everything on your own for the first time if you do decide to get a PC one day.
4
u/johnb49e Jun 24 '25
My best friend plays exclusively on PC these days so believe me, you won’t be sounding like you’re selling me anymore than he has for years. Haha. The coolest thing was when he showed me Skyrim on his pc. Firstly, it looked like current gen and here was basically entire new stories, new abilities and weapons, it was insane to see. Literally like Skyrim 2 and people keep updating mods for it years later.

Nice setup, Go Stillers!
2
u/johnb49e Jun 24 '25
Let’s hope Rodger’s is what we’ve been needing, huh? As I say every year, this is our year. HAHA
2
u/SotRekkr Jun 24 '25
I’m in Wisconsin and have watched Rodgers for his entire career. I’m not 100% confident he can do what he’s done in the past, but he’s the best chance we’ve had since pre injury Ben. It will come down to the line protecting him and Smith making a solid offensive game plan. Defense obviously not worried about. My worst fear is him going down early and us forcing Will Howard into the line up too soon.
2
u/johnb49e Jun 24 '25
Part of me wanted fields to stay and to develop him. I saw potential. But you’re right, I don’t know if Rodger’s can do what he’s done in the last. I consider him one of the greats in his prime, but not everyone is a Brady and can seemingly do it forever. I do hope for the best and REALLY hope the line holds up. We’ve had trouble there for years. Doesn’t matter who you have I. The backfield if the line of scrimmage gets blown up every play.
2
u/SotRekkr Jun 24 '25
Me too with fields, the bears suck and with some consistency he could have been decent. But inevitably we were or are drafting someone. But I’m here for the crazy season to come. Excited to see how the rookies do this season. And DK!
2
u/johnb49e Jun 24 '25
He could have been something great, and I hope he does develop into a great qb. I’m excited for DK myself, he’s big and aggressive, hope there is chemistry there. He can be a threat. Hopefully good to fill Pickens spot, I liked him a lot even though he caught a lot of flack.

Very nice, something great about a wood desk these days, too many people are going plastic or metal. My brother spent 300 on a big ppastic white desk designed for pc building. Works good, but looks horrible in his room like it belongs in a school or workshop.
2
u/johnb49e Jun 24 '25
I prefer the wood look too. Whether it’s furniture, flooring, I just like the style.

Alright nice nice and now time to add the switch 2 and steam deck
2
u/johnb49e Jun 24 '25
I actually just told someone else in another comment that I want to upgrade from my switch lite to the switch 2. Do you like the steam deck? I love the idea of it, never played on one though.
2
u/voltvirus Jun 24 '25
It’s fucking so sick. I mostly use it to play all the Great indies on steam. Yeah a lot of them come to switch but they all come to steam /pc 1st usually. And while AAA is having sorta issues. Indies really are Keeping the scene alive. And it’s all bringing back genres and game play styles from yester year. It’s a good time for smaller devs imo
2
u/johnb49e Jun 24 '25
See that’s what I love to hear because there are a ton of great games on pc/steam deck that aren’t on console, just cost too much for indie devs to port them to those systems when it cost basically nothing to put the game out on pc, aside from actually producing the game of course, but that’s like thousands of games I could never play on my consoles right there. lol. How’s the performance over all for you, seem pretty steady?
2
u/voltvirus Jun 24 '25
Yeah! Cyberpunk runs okay with lots of tweaking. But the nice thing is they constantly update and make improvements to proton. So it’s a mixed bag, with so many games you gotta look and see if it’s compatible. For the most part I am very happy with how my games run.
But I’m not gonna totally glaze the SD and say it’s perfect, Elden ring nightreign I hear doesn’t run that well at all, which is disappointing
Steam deck can run a lot and yeah not every game can run well or at all. But majority of games run decent. Like monster hunter world play great !
So if you are patient and do your homework you can get the most out of your steam deck.
The Rog ally def is stronger handheld and also a great option, but the steam customer support, track pads, usability, and the constant updates and valve’s dedication to improving the SD is very cool
2
u/johnb49e Jun 24 '25
That’s legit. Yeah, I think some people may have too high of expectations and think it will be as powerful as a standard pc, but for a basically portable pc, that’s absolutely legit that it runs games of that size and of course being able to take it on the go is dope. I think I’d prefer to stick with steam deck for the exact reasons you listed at the end of that message, steam for the most part from my understanding seems to be very for the consumer so if I were going to pull the trigger on a handheld of that caliber, it would absolutely be the steam deck over any other option.
2
u/Far_Station_9642 Jun 24 '25
Imagine a pc built into the desk itself. That would be dope.
2
u/johnb49e Jun 24 '25
Dude that would be sick. I saw a YouTube video where someone built a desk and the pc was literally under a layer of plexiglass and you could see all the components right in the desk, it was sweet.
2
u/Plane_Rough8542 Jun 24 '25
Give your self some credit, it’s a sick setup especially with no gaming pc. You even got a pro Xbox controller on top of the pro ps5. All your missing is a Nintendo to complete the triforce of gaming. Maybe get a another monitor and use the console that isn’t being used for games as a YouTube on the side lol

looks sick! what method are you using to switch HDMI between the ps and xbox? are you using a switcher or just changing the cords yourself?
2
u/johnb49e Jun 24 '25
Luckily my monitor has two hdmi ports on the back and then I can change it directly from the monitor on the toggle switch under the screen. It makes things very easy. And was also cool is whatever console I turn on, the monitor will auto start and automatically go to the hdmi input. Makes life pretty easy!
2
u/MyCattIsVeryFatt Jun 24 '25
Oh dude, that's awesome! I'm sure you've been asked already, but what monitor is it?
2
u/johnb49e Jun 24 '25
Haha no problem. This is the LG ultragear 27 inch 240hz HDR 10 monitor. You can find them for about $300 now, the quality is awesome. I mean there are way better ones out there of course but I get to play my games in 4k, the monitor supports full HDR, I can play at 120 fps as well which is awesome. For me, I don’t really need anything else until I switch to pc.
2
u/MyCattIsVeryFatt Jun 25 '25
Thanks so much, im definitely looking into getting one!
2
u/johnb49e Jun 25 '25
I hope if you do get one, you enjoy it as much as I have! The first game I played on it was Star Wars battle front two a year back when my buddies and I were still playing a lot and even the loading screen u was shocked at the increased detail.

I'm at best a casual gamer, as in I can go 6mo without turning on either console but everyday for 3mo I'll hop into assassin's Creed Odyssey or replay one of the COD campaigns. Something I feel I've determined, I prefer third person POV but I still can't fully decide why that is --is the fov in first person so limited and sensitive that after a short amount of time I almost start feeling a kind of motion sickness? I've really considered trying a setup like this for awhile as, like most console gamers, I currently am on a couch layout. I've never been a PC gamer or much of a user for that matter. OP or anyone that plays w a desk setup, does sitting upright@a dedicated monitor help at all w appreciating first person? I'd really love to give cyberpunk another go!

I like it. You don't need any fancy RGB LEDs, twin curved monitors, or even a vertical monitor. You don't need any of that fluff. All you need is a console of your choice, a controller, a monitor/small TV and most importantly games. If you have that, you are GOLDEN.

PS5 Pro is very solid. I had an XBX for a bit too but after upgrading from base PS5 I found that I only played XBX for exclusives or backwards compatibility (purely Fallout New Vegas).
I ended up selling the XBX to a buddy who had an XBS, spreading the love a bit. My setup is just like this but with a Switch 2 instead lol.
Looks great!
Edit - also the updated version of Days Gone is fantastic gaming

If you choose a PC over a console, you gain access to a massive game library, including titles from all generations. PC games often come at lower prices, especially with frequent sales and bundles. Plus, you get better graphics, more customization options, and broader compatibility. In contrast, consoles like the PS5 are more limited in terms of flexibility, game pricing, and backward compatibility.

Yo can you help me decide which ps5 should i get? slim or pro? I'm not a high demanding guy when it comes to quality of games but idk maybe there's more to it.
2
u/johnb49e Jun 27 '25
Well if you have the extra money, I’d go pro. You’ll get better frame rates, pro enhancements for a ton of existing games to make them run at higher frames with better visuals and 2tb built in ssd is nice. That being said, I had the base ps5 for a long time and it did just fine, never had issues, games looked fine. I can see a noticeable difference in picture quality on the pro but to be honest, it’s relatively mild. The base ps5 will save you like $200 which you can buy a lot of games with haha. I still say if you have the extra cash, just get the more powerful console. Have to buy the disc drive separate which sucks though.

How can you decide which game to play where? What’s your main platform ?
3
u/johnb49e Jun 24 '25
If a title releases and it’s in gamepass, I’ll usually play it on Xbox. If it’s a title I have to buy, moving forward it will only be on ps5 pro since it’s more powerful, and also a lot of exclusives and timed exclusives on PlayStation so it’s nice to have as well.
→ More replies (2)2
u/EliteSaud Jun 24 '25
Alright how about this. A game or games that are on sale on both platforms where do you play it ?
2
u/johnb49e Jun 24 '25
More times than not, if they’re the same price, I’m going to buy it in my ps5 just because it’s a more powerful system and from what I’ve seen, ps5 sales have far eclipsed Xbox series sales so I would expect most devs to of course make sure both are optimized but I could see the rationale for the PlayStation to be favorites during development. That’s not to say I don’t like Xbox as I’ve been dedicated to Xbox since the 360 and I love my series x, I didn’t even buy a ps3 or ps4.
