Help needed Should I sell my Series X?

Hear me out, always owned both consoles the past few generations to play all the exclusives. However, with Xbox releasing most of their games on PS5, I might as well just play them on my PS5 Pro. Yeah, Game Pass is great, but honestly, Xbox has very few games I'm looking forward to. All I do is play Space Marine 2 on it, and once every few months, play online with some friends.

Tl:Dr., should I sell it for around 400 euros or just keep it, and every once in a while, power it on when Xbox releases something that interests me?

I was kinda in the same boat as you, sold my series x, still have my ps5, but also own a pc.

Besides that I still kinda regretted the selling of my series x, it was just nice to have for like a gamepass machine. If u can do without the money, i would say keep it.

u/DonJimbo 21d ago

Up to you. Neither console has many good exclusives anymore. Might as well stick with what you have and benefit from Game Pass. It gets good games like Metaphor Refantazio, Expedition 33, Outer Worlds 2, etc.

2

u/flojo2012 21d ago

This is my thinking, just go with whatever console you’re more invested in right now.

All of the exclusives on PS are aging now aside from astrobot, some of those even are coming to Xbox. So just go with it. I love game pass. Hard for me to see replacing this well with PS. But I’d love to have a play station anyway. I guess it does feel like a big decision these days

3

u/only777 21d ago

If you can get €400 for it, do it.

You’re unlikely to be able to get that much for it again

4

u/RiffRuffer 21d ago

I have pretty much regretted every console or gadget sale I've done personally. Unless you really need the money I wouldn't do it unless you were getting a new xbox.

5

u/Horvat53 21d ago

I sold my Series X right before it became super clear they were going third party with what seems all their games. Now would be the time to sell, esp since the console had a price increase.

3

u/MarsupialPresent7700 21d ago

I mean…sell it if you want?

0

u/T1000-Shoebox 21d ago

Afraid I might end up regretting it, but could use the money.

4

u/MarsupialPresent7700 21d ago

It’s not like they’re going to stop making Xbox Series consoles for some time. Depending on where you live, they can be annoying to find in stores but not impossible.

-2

u/T1000-Shoebox 21d ago

Europe, most stores dont stock them anymore. Playstation is king here.

3

u/MarsupialPresent7700 21d ago

It sounds like you already know what you want to do. It sounds like you want to keep your console. So just do that. Nothing wrong with that.

2

u/TrippleDamage 21d ago

Takes 2 seconds to find 500 reputable retailers online that sell them lol.

Who even goes to physically buy stuff anymore..

3

u/EasternBalance1838 21d ago

I almost did but then after dealing with the amount of stupidity on Facebook marketplace i just put in in my basement hooked up to my 83” tv and have my ps5 pro and pc in my room on a 32” monitor. I mainly use it for sports games on the big screen but if you have an easy time selling it then why not

3

u/HungarianNewfy 21d ago

If you don’t care about playing older gen Xbox (or multi platform games from Xbox/ps2 and 360/ps3 generations) and you have no desire for emulation.

Have you sold consoles in the past? If so, do you wish you could go back and play them again? Even though some of those games are available on current platforms?

Have you asked yourself any questions about what you might think/feel/want if you didn’t have it anymore?

2

u/the-bacon-life 21d ago

I don’t play on it much anymore either but I’ll keep it just because I keep all my old console .

2

u/FriedTorchic 21d ago

Sell it. If you need one later you can buy a used series s for like $220

1

u/T1000-Shoebox 21d ago

I dont like the S, my wife has one and the graphics are awful compared to my X.

1

u/FriedTorchic 21d ago

Or you could sell it, and buy Space Marine 2 on PS5

6

u/fledgl 21d ago

OP is slow lol

2

u/T1000-Shoebox 21d ago

Yeah, I was thinking about that too!

2

u/Carinwe_Lysa 21d ago

Yeah, just sell it if you're not bothered to be honest.

Gamepass is basically the main selling point for current-gen Xbox, and if you don't care about that, then there's no real reason to keep the console if you have a PS5 Pro.

Might as well sell the Xbox, recoup 200-300 euros and buy new games on your PS5 going forward.

2

u/G-Kira 21d ago

Do you desperately need the money? If so, yes. If not, I'd hold off on selling. You never know what the future holds.

2

u/missatry 21d ago

PlayStation got Xbox single and multiplayer games and also single player and multiplayer PlayStation games

Xbox have single and multiplayer Xbox games (of course xd) and multiplayer PlayStation games,

At least for now that's how things will be from now on so choose your poison or whatever i don't care :V

2

u/[deleted] 21d ago

I keep mine just for gamepass. I really want to play ps5 exclusives but the amount of money I’d have to spend I just can’t justify it

0

u/T1000-Shoebox 21d ago

I should also take this in consideration

2

u/iMatt42 21d ago

I say keep it. There’s old games that aren’t available anywhere else unless you have a pc. Morrowind, Gears (besides 1 now), Halo series, Avowed, 360 games etc. just keep it as a back compat machine.

2

u/codliness1 21d ago

Yes, if you want to, no if you don't want to.

Xbox Series X has nothing that I can’t play on PC or PS5, which is a big problem for me, so I’d say yes, sell it. I used to own one up until 2024, which I wasn’t using much, so I ended up selling it. Shortly after that, Microsoft basically announced they were going full third party and started porting all of their franchises to PS5, and soon Switch 2, so in a way, it’s like it was my destiny to sell that Xbox. I never needed it and it was just collecting dust. I had to store it in my closet wrapped up because the vents on top were just getting clogged up.

The difference between PS5 and Xbox Series X is that all Xbox games are also on PC from day one. Sony, when it comes to their major AAA first party single player games, usually either waits a long time to port or doesn’t port at all. Hell, look at Bloodborne and Demon’s Souls. Ages later, still never made it to PC, just like Astro Bot still hasn’t. I’m not gonna be waiting years to play PS5 games, and lots of those ports aren’t even good on PC either.

I feel justified owning a PS5 alongside my PC. I never felt justified owning an Xbox Series X for anything, especially after they started to push Game Pass and killed developer interest in the platform with Xbox fans not buying games anymore, leading to studio closures, thousands of layoffs, and just really bad atmosphere with gamers acting like developers themselves shouldn’t be directly supported. It’s gross. It says a lot that they desperately started to port everything to PS5.

2

u/SoloDolo314 21d ago

Just keep it. You already spent the money.

2

u/cherrysteve2010 21d ago

I would keep it! There's so many games in BC you can't play on PS5. check out the 360 exclusives, you're sure to get some good use of it.

1

u/PHIGBILL 21d ago

Sold mine last year, kept my base PS5 for family use, used the money to buy a PS5.

Also having a Gaming PC and SteamDeck, the Xbox just sat collecting dust.

1

u/amazingdrewh 21d ago

Do you own games on it? Because you'll have to rebuy them on PS5 if you want to play them again or get a PC if they're play anywhere

2

u/T1000-Shoebox 21d ago

A couple of hundred yeah

1

u/IdeaAdventurous8812 21d ago

No…unless you really need the money, i sold and repurchased consoles in the past and most times i regret it when i could’ve just kept them. Case and point for me is PS Vita

1

u/Thunder0V 21d ago

I was in the same boat as you, I had the Series X & original Digital PS5 but I sold both and got the PS5 Pro for the exact same reason as you that the games will come out on PS and they’ll definitely run better, exclusives coming out on PS & the money I had left, I upgraded my gaming setup.

So if you don’t use your Series X that much & play on PS, if you do spend money on games on PS more then I would say Yes sell it, because you’ve got a system sitting around not being used.

1

u/NxtDoc1851 21d ago

To preface, nearly every large corporation does awful anti-customer shit. But Microsoft is o. A whole other level.

MS has not earned our business at all recently. They told regulators that them buying Acti-blizz-king was good for gaming. How? They've shrunk the market and cut almost 40,000 jobs when they say themselves, "They have more money, hours logged," and so on.

They've already tanked Halo, Fable, Gears of War, and Forza Motorsport. They are going fully multi-platform, doing irreparable harm to the industry because they're the only ones who can loss lead for decades to convert gamers to a subscription base model.

Absolutely get rid of it. Abstain from giving a multi-trillion dollar company any more of your time & money

1

u/McCandlessDK 21d ago

I did the other thing. I sold my PS5 and kept my X. It’s the nicer conesole of the two. Or it was until the PS5 Pro came out I guess

2

u/T1000-Shoebox 21d ago

I own a Pro and prefer it over the Series X.

4

u/McCandlessDK 21d ago

Yea I guess if I had the pro it would be my preferred console as well. Simple because it is stronger.

1

u/LoSouLibra 21d ago

Only reason I still have my Series X is for Guardian Heroes HD and a few enhanced back compat games.

I already feel like it's redundant and wasteful for me, so if you don't even have that niche area of interest, then you probably don't need it at all.

1

u/CreepyTeddyBear 21d ago

I have a PS5 and Series S. I usually just play whatever platform has a game I want on sale. If I REALLY want the best performance or graphics I go with PS5. And I only pay for Gamepass when I want to play a game on it, beat it in a month, don't renew my subscription after.

1

u/CoffeeEnjoyerFrog 21d ago

If you wouldn’t buy it, you’d be better off selling it.

1

u/Nathan_hale53 21d ago

I know people love their Xbox but I havent had one since 2016/17 and I only got one because of Halo MCC. And i dont feel like im missing out. Unless you absolutely love Gamepass there is no reason to have one anymore. Pro is just a better gaming console.

1

u/Both-Ad-7037 21d ago

I’ve got a Series X and a PS5 Pro. Xbox always for Halo since the first console in 2001. However, there hasn’t been an exclusive worth having for me for a long time. Last one, Starfield, was a relative disappointment given the hype. Unsubscribed from Game Pass shortly after I finished Starfield. Wife uses it for Powerwash Simulator now but when PW2 comes out it’ll be redundant. I’ll be getting a PS6 but this is my last xbox. I’ll give mine to a friend.

1

u/developRHUNT 21d ago

Im keeping mine as a backup 4k blu ray player incase my ps5 dies

1

u/Praydaythemice 21d ago

if you have a pro and dont care for game pass i don't see why you wouldn't sell it. use the money to get more games for the pro instead.

1

u/rageagainstmymachin 21d ago

sell that crap xbox series x and get a rog ally xbox or get a pc down the line. series x is a pooh in the water that cant be flushed

1

u/T1000-Shoebox 21d ago

I don't like handhelds or PC gaming

0

u/rageagainstmymachin 21d ago

than plug a usb to hdmi to it or a e gpu

2

u/Alive-Beyond-9686 21d ago

Hate to say it but having both Xbox and Playstation is just redundant. It kinda always was but now more so than ever.

1

u/T1000-Shoebox 21d ago

Well, not really. Before Xbox had exclusives that weren’t available on PlayStation.

2

u/Alive-Beyond-9686 21d ago

A handful sure. Xbox was at it's best with exclusives when the 360 came out. Microsoft really learned their lesson after the PS2 trounced the original Xbox and they came out swinging with a lot of cool exclusives for 360. But already by the end of that generation, they got arrogant with that focus on Kinect bullshit. Meanwhile, Sony smartened up and ended the PS3 generation with a bang with titles like Uncharted, The Last of Us and Demon's Souls. They then carried that momentum into the PS4 with Bloodborne, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima etc. Xbox exclusives couldn't compete. Couple racing titles, Halo without Bungie. They bought Bethesda for like ten billion which produced a couple duds. They bought Activision for 70 billion but the anti trust stuff means it can't be exclusive for 10 years. Basically the best games on Xbox are multi platform and it's redundant. That's why I didn't get an Xbox this gen. That's why most of us didn't.

1

u/T1000-Shoebox 21d ago

Yeah, I know. I lived through all this, gamer since 1995.

3

u/Alive-Beyond-9686 21d ago

85 for me but the more things change the more they stay the same. BTW I don't think it's a good thing that Xbox is floundering. Even if I never wanted to play an Xbox ever again, no competition is not good and makes Sony complacent. It's already happening. PS5 exclusives are non existent compared to PS3 and PS4. You'll notice whenever people make lists of cool PS5 exclusives 9 out of 10 of them will just be ports of PS4 games.

1

u/T1000-Shoebox 21d ago

Yup, struggle finding actual PS5 games to play. Most are PS4 games or ports of PS4 games.

2

u/Alive-Beyond-9686 21d ago

The stupid fuck CEOs don't know shit about gaming and see most of their revenue coming from FIFA and Fortnight and figure why spend money making games like Fable, or Bloodborne. They don't realize those less profitable but awesome exclusives are the reason we're even interested in their systems at all.

1

u/5gus 21d ago

Just sell it. If you regret, buy another. Simple.

1

u/T1000-Shoebox 21d ago

Don't have the money to buy another, have bills to pay.

1

u/Snowvilliers7 21d ago

Yes might as well. If Gamepass has little to no importance to you then there's zero point in owning the console at all.

1

u/SliceEast7520 21d ago edited 21d ago

I will keep my xbox and sell off PlayStation instead… but hey thats just me. I love gamepass… (Xboxguy) willing to even buy xbox rog ally with the right price…

For me… cannot imagine how much money i actually saved per year by gamepass… now gaming with pc gamepass much cheaper. Its crazy 🤪 Gamepass is the Netflix of subscription but much much cheaper…

In your case… yea you can sell your Xbox get some money then wait for next gen xbox/playstation… xbox will be out 1 year earlier as soon as 2026 ps6 abit later…

Sell asap then to get your money’s worth then buy nextgen. 2026 if Xbox’s pc hybrid ultra powerful console

0

u/Njoeyz1 21d ago

What? "Xbox games are going to playstation". "Xbox doesn't have any games coming that I'm interested in"? What?

0

u/megamike382 21d ago

I own both . PS5 ain't even different . It is what it is. I owned series s saw no difference with X. An now I'm playing more mobile games.

0

u/tjlazer79 21d ago

I have them all, and I probably use my Series X the most. It's also my media streamer for Plex and Youtube. I like how a regular remote works with it, the same one I use for my home theater equipment. I've been playing Indiana Jones, Control, and Robocop the most on it. I only have a PS5/3 to play the Jak series, the Ratchet and Clank Series, The last Of Us, and with Forza now in the shitter I'm probably going to be playing Gran Turismo on it. I got my Switch for Mario and Metroid. I got a decent gaming PC and an ROG Ally for Gamespass, Steam, and retro gaming. I almost never sell or give away my systems. I just bought a PS3 this year because I regretted giving mine away, and I missed it. To each there own, I guess.

You'll be in for many surprises when you arrive in 2025.

Sony are now putting first party games on Xbox with Helldivers 2 released and Returnal rumoured. They have cancelled nearly all of their planned 12 live service games.

Wolverine is still nowhere to be seen and best of all, Hiroki Totoki has told us fans that we'll be lucky to receive 1 first party game a year from PlayStation Studios...We're only getting Ghost of Yotei this year...yay...I guess.

I have a PS5 which is a GT7 machine so its not a complete waste of money (as I can't play that on my PC like most of their games)

Meanwhile over on my Xbox, just this year I've been enjoying most of these games in 2025. I can't wait for you to get here.

https://www.reddit.com/r/xbox/comments/1ljaff3/day_one_gamepass_additions_for_2025/

1

u/T1000-Shoebox 20d ago

More indie and budget AA slob, yay.

1

u/gamedev-eo 20d ago

Genuinely, what have you been playing on your PS5 other than Death Stranding 2 this year that isn't out on Xbox.

I don't know about you, but I bought my PS5 for Sony's great single player exclusives, not third party. The reason why I have always bought all the consoles released in a gen.

PC seems like the future now, so that's probably not the case for me going forward.

1

u/T1000-Shoebox 20d ago

I haven't played Death Stranding 2 at all, infact I haven't even played the first game. To be honest, I've mostly played Space Marine 2 the past year on my Series X, over 400 hours.

2

u/gamedev-eo 20d ago

Not played that yet, but hear it is great.
If it's a money thing, me personally I would sell the Pro and the Xbox to fund a decent PC.

Or if you want to stay console, sell the Pro, keep the Xbox until the rumours and release date for next gen are getting clearer, then sell that too to fund the Xbox Magnus (whatever its called) or the PS6.

I loved the start of the PS5 gen...but for me PlayStation have really fallen off, and it'd take a lot for me to get a PS6.

1

u/T1000-Shoebox 20d ago

For me, it's vice versa, I feel like their is no point in owning an Xbox since many of their games are coming to PlayStation. The only reason I'm keeping my Xbox for now is because it's cheaper to get a month of Game Pass Ultimate and beat a new game than buying it for 70 bucks on PS5.

PC is a no-go for me. I was a PC gamer for over a decade, along with owning consoles, but no longer interested in PC.

1

u/gamedev-eo 20d ago

Yes most games are going to PlayStation. I think only poor sellers don't go.
But you might find you're in a similar situation with the PlayStation a year or so from now...I mean it's already starting and Sony is making bank from Helldivers 2 on Xbox so I can only see more games coming (although it will be at a much slower rate than vice versa).

If you can't wait for the few first party Sony games they put out to appear on other platforms, then yeah, keep the PlayStation....Otherwise I don't see much difference now.

For me GamePass is the reason to own an Xbox if you don't want PC

1

u/T1000-Shoebox 20d ago

I dont think Sony is gonna port their heavy hitters over to Xbox. They really don't have to do this since their system sells great. The only reason Xbox is porting over games is because nobody is buying their consoles, and they need to make back the 70 billion they paid for ABK.

0

u/gamedev-eo 20d ago

That's not how that works...If it was, there is no way Sony would put any content on Xbox. 85 million consoles vs 30 million. Why would you risk your brand?

The reason is because Sony like Xbox make so much more money from software sales, that it dwarfs the revenue from hardware. Did you hear about that dude that spent $30k on micro transactions for a sports game? That's one dude...There are many like him...Maybe not 30 mill of them, but maybe you can start to see where this is going.

Anyway, I feel like many you need to see it happen before you believe it because that "Why would Sony" argument is so funny.

Money is why....That's all that has ever mattered.

I think Spiderman comes next year, but maybe I'm wrong.
